I'm Reading Your Stuff: General News and Discussion Thread

Even if we don't know the plot, I was expecting Sophia to appear just in one case: as a witness/informer for Batman to Oz's crimes. Maybe it means the events of the series won't be much more then a kickoff for the very start (maybe a new voice over monologue?).

Anyway, for the ending of Part I is perfectly understandable Selina won't be in this movie. But considering the ending of the Penguin, I'm expecting an announcement in the next 9 months of a spin-off with Catwoman... and Sophia.

Do we even know for sure that Selina won’t be in Part II? I kind of have a hard time believing that an off-limits question at the press tour for another movie is how we find out one way or the other.
I she wasn't, I would accept it. I mean, the first movie literally ended with her driving off into the sunrise, away from Gotham City.

But I could also see her making a surprise comeback.

We'll see. I welcome some new characters being the focus this time.

Wouldn't mind a different love interest for Bruce Wayne, either. I don't quite see Batman and Catwoman as Superman and Lois Lane, where them being a constant is a core element of the characters and lore.

Selina being sneaky and unreliable and/or Batman being or not being ready to commit depending on his headspace is a much more interesting dynamic for them.

Which is why I wasn't too upset when their wedding was blown off in the comics.

I feel like Batman, compared to other heroes, IS more of a "tragic Universal creature", where things don't always go 100% according to plan.

I mean, Penguin made it abundantly clear that Selina will likely be back at some point. Whether it's a cameo in Part II or a full return in Part III. I'm sure Matt knows what he's doing with how to handle it (and that's if it's even true, and isn't just Zoe trying to dodge being asked questions about it)

To me, I think her return would all depend on the timeline of the story in the sequel. If it all takes place after the events of the first movie, it would make no sense for her to leave Gotham, only to come back 1 month later. If there is a time jump at the end, then I can see it happening. Reeves did say, the next time we see her, they would be at odds.

Will also depend how many new characters he introduces.

I wouldn't necessarily think of Robin with that statement, even though it would make sense, especially since Reeves seems to be inspired by the 1960s television series. And Dick –after Penguin, Riddler, Joker, Catwoman, and the red phone– is pretty much the only key character who hasn't appeared yet.

Now, I know I'll be alone on this, but Battinson still seems too youthfull to me to welcome Robin. Unless there's a little jump in time, he has barely figured out what he wants to be as Batman, and I feel like there should be a step where he figures out “Bruce Wayne" and where both personalities mature a bit. That said, adopting a lost child and creating a new family could serve that step...

We'll see! In any case, Alfie Williams is my candidate to team up with Pattinson.

I’d say how utterly unprepared Battinson feels is exactly why he’d be uniquely dramatically suited to Robin.

Farrell is very, very good and a much louder showier role but Graham is a better performance in a much better, more important show. Not denigrating Colin, but Graham's performance is painfully real and beautiful.

Yeah Robin is coming 100%.
I'm starting to think it's more likely given the ambiguous comments from Reeves. Although, I do think it will be more of a Dick Grayson only scenario.

Plus it's the one character that really hasn't been done again since Batman forever which means a fresh take can definitely be done and you could pull from Dark Victory.

We will find out soon enough, but honestly, it wouldn't shock me if he wanted to cast the actor that played Stephen Graham's son in adolescence.

There’s nothing I love more than seeing an actor win an award and the comic nerd community seeing that as an audition to play one of their superheroes.
Okay listen you’re right but you don’t have to call me out like that.

He was my fan cast pre-Emmy! I’m innocent of all charges.

That’s just how the industry operates, though. CBM or not.

After last year’s Oscars, there were plenty of articles in the trades discussing the roles offered to Ariana Grande and Mikey Madison following their nominations. Pretty sure Madison was offered a role in Levy’s Star Wars but turned it down, and Grande is in the next Meet the Parents. Not necessarily nerdy, but a major franchise nonetheless.

Obviously casting directors are aware of actors up for awards & receiving critical acclaim…

Y’all just won’t let me make fun of anyone in peace. :csad:

(I’m sure the kid would do fine in the role, I just said to myself as soon as I saw him win “I’m about to see him suggested for Robin about 10x as often as I did before” and Twitter proved me right within the hour.)

John and Mary, I’m sorry but it is once again time for you two to take the plunge
I apologize for nothing. They’ve gone thirty years death-free. Thomas and Martha have died a thousand deaths in that time.

Pay your dues, Graysons.

Though he didn’t reveal any specific plot points, Reeves did share that this new installment will be similar in a sense to the detective story featured in The Batman. “Obviously because of what the first movie was and what this movie is, which is so much a detective story, the idea of trying to protect the secrets of the movie is super important because it’s a mystery,” Reeves continued. “It would be an extra level of heartbreak if that part of it started getting out.”
Stop sharing spoilers, y'all. Even the fake ones.
