I'm Reading Your Stuff: General News and Discussion Thread

My gut tells me they’ll dump everything from Hugo Strange to Jeremiah Arkham to avoid the Doctor Strange/MCU comparisons (like Shazam/Captain Marvel)

I’d prefer to keep Tetch an underling though; he seems more an Arkham inmate than the one running the asylum
I wouldn't hate Jeremiah Arkham as the villain, but he lacks Hugo Strange's iconography. I'm one to say "**** it" as far as the MCU comparisons are concerned, but it's still a fair point.

You know, the more I think about it, I don’t really believe Matt is kind of person that would combine characters. I believe he’ll take a character look for his real life or fictional counterpart. Even look for stories that fit the motives of that character. He’s been pretty faithful to each character so far.

You mean?

Hush should be the villain of The Batman 2 since he was teased in the first film and Hugo Strange should be the villain of the third one. Would be cool if this trilogy focuses on psychological and intellectual threats rather than physical.

Yeah lol the idea hasn’t really gotten traction on these boards, so I get the sense more fans care about Strange than they do Arkham; but I can’t shake the MCU comparison. And I’m also thinking of a billion dollar video game franchise built on the Arkham name…but maybe all the means nothing

At the end of the day, I can certainly tell the difference between Hugo Strange and Stephen Strange so it doesn’t make a lick of difference to me lol; I may just be treating the general audience with kid gloves here.

And, still, whether it’s Strange’s bald head & big beard, or Arkham’s glasses & bowl cut—they’re both pretty bland designs (even compared to Hush). If this is the direction Reeves takes, hopefully there’s another supervillain for Batman to dust up against (again, probably Hush).

Eh, he's sorta combined Riddler with Anarky and to a lesser extent Hush, and Joker here has Croc's backstory so it's not necessarily that cut and dry.

No, he’s not. The only thing that was done differently is that Matt gave Riddler an orphan origin with The Zodiac as his real world inspiration. In no way is he combined with those characters. Literally, everything Riddler did can be traced back to something that he’s done in the comics. We also don’t know anything about Joker other than him having a skin condition.

Sorry dude, but this is just a really bad take. I guess it’s easier for some people to try and associate some things with other villains. Idk. Nothing personal. It’s just really bizarre that I see so many people still saying this.

How strongly do people feel that Leslie Thompkins is going to be in the sequel?

I can see her being a good way to help Bruce appear in public. Matt Reeves spoke about Bruce Wayne appearing more and from reading comments/watching prediction videos, that’s what the fans want. Given that the sequel picks up maybe a month or two after the first movie and he was so socially awkward, Leslie Thompkins can help to bridge that gap and make him more comfortable with public appearances.

With Mattson seemingly taking a larger role this time and with her inclusion in Imposter I'd bet almost anything Leslie is in it, I'm almost positive on her AND Dent, actually. I'm just not sure between Hush and Hugo.

What's interesting is you could actually use the opposite villain for a third film and they could be utilized differently. By a third film Hush would have a few more rogues to work FOR him, and if you waited and used Hugo for a third film, you could have the finale be Bruce locked in Arkham with all his villains.

I think it would be funny if they got opposite rolls. Like whoever Gunn hires as Batman plays Hush in The Batman universe :)

I mean, I was fully on board with Colin Farrell playing Sgt. Rock. Would love to see the project revived with him still attached.

Sometimes Gunn answers the dumbest fanboy questions.
A few days ago someone asked him if there would be projects set during different time periods. As if a project set during WWII wasn’t already in the mix.

Considering there's a strong chance DCU Batman winds up being some TV/Prime Video guy like Sklenar....no thanks.
