And that is my exact problem with expanded universes and how they are handled. These are not comics. These are movie series that are getting turned into multimedia projects that end up chocking the life out of them. It's classic, boring, unartistic capitalism.

Using your analogy, I think it's unfair to blame fans if they are taught that that's how it works. Take Bryan Danielson. WWE didn't want to strap him up 2014. But they did. Why? Because those who worked themselves into a shoot got what they wanted. It's fine to say, "don't believe the rumors". But Marvel built an entire 2 billion dollar movie around believing a rumor.

The point is more people watch the shows than nerds like us. If they only appeal to the stuff we think is interesting they will fail in epic fashion.

Rumors are fine, they are fun and they give us something to talk about. When people care more about their head canon based on those rumors than the stories being told then they are the problem not the studios.

To be fair to us, I don't think its really fair to characterize "I wish the writing in Penguin was better" as "I want it to appeal solely to me, the hardcore fan". Lots of very popular things have extremely weak writing.

Is your argument that I should care if it appeals to the masses? Why? I like the Penguin. I think it's good. I think it could be better, with better writing. That's basic critique. We all do it.

As to the rumor stuff. If the company feeds it, I do not understand why the complaint is about the audience. It's the company who wants the frenzy.

I'd prefer he be Hugo just because of all the Oscar Isaac Harvey Dent fan-art that's out there already but again it's Sneider so I doubt it.

And reading the actual quote he says he wouldn't be surprised because Issac has an open schedule so it's less of a rumor and more of a guess either way.

I actually do really like this about Penguin. One of the best parts of it and a big factor in its success.

Frankly they could cast Isaac as anybody and I know he's gonna knock it out of the park. Kinda similar to Raimi Malek in that sorta way.

I do remember that Oscar Isaac was rumoured the first time around so it really wouldn't surprise me if Reeves reached out again. Times have changed too with respect to this franchise and his career. I'm sure a lot of actors weren't necessarily thrilled with being part of another batman reboot.
