might have to wait for a god of war movie then guys lol

Sounds good to me. As long as Ratner doesnt have a thing to do with it anymore.

During the final battle of Immortals, I was thinking thats how the action should be done in GOW.

Well if anyone were to do a Hercules epic I'd hope it was Ridley Scott or Aronofski, or or the other.

Rourke gave perhaps the most present interview I've ever seen from him at the ufc premiere last night. Of course he went back into his daze when they started talking about his films, epic finish as usual from him.

So that's what he sounds like when he's genuine.

oh Rourke.

Rourke's face is horrifying. He looks like Krang from TMNT or something.

I think the guy might have body dysmorphic disorder.

True, these movies already have some pretty expensive stuff going on. At the same time if they made made Theseus a full on demigod I dont see how that would be looked at as being impossible, I saw the change as the writers just taking the easy way out and simplifying the story. I think Theseus was just ultra powerfull and could lift boulders and such. I saw crazier things in the movie. They could have given him Ultra Strength.

With Clash of the Titans we had a giant fricken Kraken while our hero rides a Pegasus. If they can afford that they can afford a bit of cash to make the son of a God a little more powerful.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but in the movie, he wasn't the son of a god. They make a point to say that he was the offspring of his mothers rape.

I know, I saw it as a bad choice and a way of simplifying the story. Would have preferred they went with him being the son of Poseidon. Could have done some more interesting things with the Gods that way, and also give Theseus a bit more of a story arc.

One minor complaint about this film that I have is that Hades wasn't in it. Other than that and a few bits of dialogue, I really liked it.

Well that's good to know. However it paints an even blacker circle over the concept of why he and real demi gods are more or less indistinguishable.

When i first saw the trailers i thought meh.... but after watching it i thought it was pretty damn good. I didnt like king hyperions bugs bunny ears helmet i thought it made him look stupid. I wont mind getting this one for my movie collection.

Ok I saw this today. Way better than Clash, that movie was awful, but not as good as 300 imo. The dialogue is wretched. The music is bleh. The story is pretty bland.

Cons:
The above mentioned
There were only like 5 gods...I think 1 or 2 were just short cameos
Poseidon looked younger than his son (I think that was his son)
The gods really had no motivation or story, they were underdeveloped
Mickey Rourke is just awful. Yes he was sadistic but as an actor, just as bland as a vanilla milkshake. I really don't know why he gets these big jobs.

Pros:
Gorgeous movie
Henry Cavill is awesome
The battles were amazing...the final battle was just kick ass
The set design and the costume design was amazing...the gods looked great

Overall it was alright. Def. not as bad as the critics made it out to be. Def. way better than Clash but imo not as good as 300...but it's close. They are good in sort of their on way. I would say 6/10.

its funny cuz i just mentioned this the other day in the Skyrim thread, but i hate it when they use North American accents in movies like this. totally takes me right out

I loved this movie, it went far past my expectations which were already high. I give it a 9/10.

It usually bothers me too, but for some reason here I think it worked, at least for Rourke's character. I think the American accent made him sound more hollow and dead inside.

All the gods looked young. They don't age, or age differently than mortals.

I'm glad to hear people are loving Cavill all around. That bodes very well for Superman.

Yeah, they were grossly underdeveloped (my biggest wish about this movie was that the gods had a larger part), but I thought their motivation was quite clear.

All the gods were worried about the titan's being unleashed. Zeus believed that since humans were responsible for trying to unleash them, it was Man's responsibility to stop it (this responsibility was placed an Cavill's head as the "greatest" of the humans). Zeus believed that in order for Man to have faith in the gods, the gods needed to have faith in Man to get the job done (never mind his adherence to the rule that gods shouldn't interact with humans in godly form). The other gods disagreed, and believed it was their duty to help.

Their insubordination created a (SEVERELY) missed opportunity for a great story thread, IMO, but motivation was there.

Really? What didn't you like about him in this? He was one of my favorite parts of the film.

Rourke seems to be the most polarizing thing about this movie. People either thought he was awesome, or he was just phoning it in.

I think there was an element of arrogance, complete lack of emotional connection and an almost 'yea whatever' attitude to how Rourke played the character.

Like in that first scene in the temple when he's telling the priest about his family being killed - he has one initial action of anger when he spits into the holy water, but then seems to gather himself, and instead of saying it with bitterness or hatred, he tells the story like he's pretending he no longer cares in some macho way, while he carelessly douses the guy in oil.

I have no idea if that was intentional, or if that's just because Rourke was being himself, but it worked for Hyperion IMO :D

I liked that he didn't give a **** about pretty much anything, and that he came across as the most arrogant villain I have ever seen.

How do you mean? He isn’t treated like a demigod in the film, nor are there any to compare him to in the story to get confused by. Not every hero of Greek myth is a demigod (they usually get the “constellation consolation prize” if they aren’t, though). He’s a guy who was taught fighting, honor, and wisdom from a young age, but he doesn’t have any super powers that are prevalent in demigods.

He DOES become one at the end though; when he dies from his wounds, the gods beam him up to Mt. Olympus.

The question being why Perseus and other demigods in films are not portrayed any differently than mortal. It's like it doesn't matter if they're "demi's" or not it's just a bold fighter with sandles on and a contempt for the higher powers.

Same reason all our regular, modern day action heroes are big, strong, resilient guys who can overcome any obstacle - no one really wants to see a scared, weak, and useless "hero" :oldrazz:

It seems like most of the roles Rourke has have him either play someone who is arrogant, or don't give a damn about anything, or both.
