The Dark Knight Rises Improving Fight Scenes

There is not one thing in the fight scenes in Mask of the Phantasm that couldn't be done in live action. Furthermore, that Arkham City clip is animated. Furthermore, all animation is simply an exaggeration of something from reality. Furthermore, what restrictions are you even talking about. Batman has no limits.
Well played. :cwink:
:awesome:

Fixed.

I'd blame the actual fight style too. Looking at Keysi as a whole, the head-elbow foundation of practically every move is irritating to my eyes. I always feel like his hands were accidentally glued to his head and suddenly an ambush appeared.

Those were great btw, so thanks a lot.

Holmes' fight is probably my favourite. Bourne fights are already loved by all of us, and those Chinese guys were amazing as well. Spectacular is a better word for it. However it seems too light and not brutal enough for Batman, the way the other two videos are.

Watch the Donnie Yen video (which one of the two is he anyway? I ve never heard of him before) and take a look at that roundhouse elbow at about 3:15. AWESOME!!!!!!! See that Snyder? That's how you use slo-mo. Not every god damn shot of the damn movie.

Donnie Yen (Snowman in Blade II) is the guy with the black jacket. Collin Chou (Seraph in The Matrix sequels) is the other guy.

batman's would be amazing if done exactly how holmes was done where he calculates the sort of hurt he will bring on you.

like in honesty though, i LOVED the parking structure fight the best in the whole movie which was very well shot etc how he just took those dudes with a thud after a thud, he was quick, and authoritative, but somewhere along the road in that movie Nolan got lazy on his fight visuals and got wrapped up in the plot and film.

I would like to see some scenes where Bane watches Batman fighting, studying his every move.

If they keep his prison origins, I want to see Bane's style to be quick and efficient, nothing flashy. I'm thinking his own style of Krav Maga and Kali/Eskrima (using whatever he can get his hands on as a weapon).

Batman is ever improving himself in the Nolan films. I can picture a scene Batman get's destroyed in hand to hand combat, completely caught of guard by Bane's speed and efficiency.

I don't know. It worked on Fresh Prince...

In all honesty, the choreography was fantastic! The cinematography and editing were the weak points in the fight scenes. I do, however point the finger at (GASP!) Christopher Nolan. As an amazing of a director as he is, he is going to need to bring someone else in for the fight scenes alone. His directing in the entire film (besides the fight scenes) his FANTASTIC. I just hope he can work with someone else so that the fight scenes can be superb!
I take this back. Wally was incredible in Inception and he should apply those techniques to TDK:R - also I suggest they just play some Arkham Asylum and just re-enact some of those sequences... actually - they were awesome.

For fighting a large pack of thugs, I'm all for the BB style. Batman should be this lightning-fast, hardly-seen dark figure that just pounces on people outta nowhere and destroys them quickly in a fight.

I don't need to see Batman punching and kicking thugs. And the more he does, the more the bad guys can tell he's just a nut in a suit. The bad guys in BB were terrified because they didn't know much about him. Can he fly? Does he have wings? Can he climb walls?

Now for more important villains, let us (the audience) see a bit more. Display the skills against someone who is going to actually fight Batman. Don't slow it down a whole lot, but just enough that we can make out what the heck is happening. The Bourne examples are perfect for what I'm trying to describe. It's still quick, but you can tell there's a skilled fight going on. Hopefully we get something like that for Bane.

Well said. I agree with this approach.

Something I'd like to specifically address:

This is something I think Nolan did intentionally with The Dark Knight. Villains had more or less figured him out, and though they still knew to be careful of him, they were still more or less unafraid by comparison to Begins. It reflected in how the fight scenes were filmed. Kind of a nice touch artistically, even if it's not how I prefer to see Batman. The point was made well.

i would more or less be behind the action in taken being transported here. very quick, effective, and brutal. minus the killing of course.

and can we have some blood for the sake of realism? i mean, batman 89 even had blood.

Joker had a bloody cut across his face in the end of TDK where Batman's gauntlet shuriken things hit him.

I'd love to see Batman with blood running down his chin though. Battered Batman is just epic in terms of visual iconography, imo.

As for the blood, weren't some people complaining that even with the minimal blood TDK had it should have actually been R rated?

I saw some of that. A lot of parents were complaining about Two-Face iirc. :hehe:

issue is in the dark knight we NEVER got batman training or doing the wooden poll arm blocking techniques as most martial artists. he didnt do any invigorating work out to see how he stays in TOP shape. we just had to believe he was still the **** but in comparison to BB he seemed rusty so IDK
