The most truly heartbreaking thing is he can't see how much excitement and immense reaction has been created by his performance![]()
Heath Ledger may be gone - but thanks to the new scholarship for Australian actors established in his name, his memory will live on forever!
The Los Angeles Times reports that Australians in Film (AIF), an organization for Australians working abroad in the entertainment industry, has established the Heath Ledger Scholarship Fund, an annually-given scholarship fund designed to help one lucky young Aussie actor or actress pursue a career in Hollywood.
The scholarship was introduced yesterday, June 5th, at AIF's 4th annual Breakthrough Awards ceremony, where longtime Ledger friend Gregor Jordan will read statements of support from the departed actor's family.
Before his tragic death in January, Ledger had been heavily involved with AIF, even serving as an ambassador for the organization. Ledger had maintained a long-standing friendship with AIF President Susie Dobson ever since 2000 - long before the Foundation had even been founded.
"Someone told me that there was a young and very, very shy Australian actor sitting on a couch by himself, and they suggested I go over and talk to him and try to make him feel at home," Dobson told the paper. "It was Heath Ledger, and he was here to promote his first big U.S. film, The Patriot, with Mel Gibson. He was wearing jeans and a T-shirt and was incredibly sweet, shy and soft-spoken."
"Through Heath's scholarship," she said, "we will be able to assist burgeoning Australian talent launch their careers in the U.S. to become potential future recipients of a Breakthrough Award."

Here's a poem I just brainstormed today, in tribute and in rememberance of Mr. Ledger-
A KILLING JOKE-
Smile
I see it constantly; its carved into my thoughts.
A total transformation, you have taken- its so strange.
Computing all the nuances and mannerisms of your new self.
Looking back at your past, its entirely someone else.
To remain in the same vein would be mundane, but you didnt.
Took it upon yourself to not settle for impersonation.
No impersonal nomenclature of former performances.
You shattered the glass ceiling, uncovered all the lids.
Somehow retaining a piece- of humanity youd keep.
I look back at it all now, and see you gave your life for this art.
Its unfair to make assumptions as to why the days, they turned dark.
To say vices had their price, and your demons stretched out too far.
But life isnt for the truly young and gifted- take it from history.
Marilyn, River and Judy Garland- still painful to see, regardless.
Chris Farley or Jean Harlow, James Dean Why did they all go?
Their memories etched into cellulose on a reel.
Portrayals made eternal, for the masses to reflect.
Yet these images arent enough- wed rather have you here, receiving love and respect.
Could cry and let pain subside, lash out in anger or frustration.
But its better to appreciate the time given to keep face with.
We should take it for what it is, not make each obstacle seem imperilous.
Following your advice, I'll think twice- not being quite so serious.
Cause false hope isnt for jokers, its a trait of the weak willed.
Live with passion and speak clever, so learn this- youll sleep better.
Well surely always think of you, and smile when we see green
Or a purple cloak of anonymity- its not as hopeless as it seems.
The sun shines eternally on the bright-minded, so youll never go dim.
Well keep our guard up for Matilda, dont feel as such that you gave in.
Your actions proved too taxing, we were given the dark glow of the moon.
But through your work, you live forever.
Heath Andrew Ledger- well see you soon.

The premiere of Heath Ledger's final complete film will be dedicated to the actor - and his family will be the special guests at the event.
The actor's family will make the trip from Australia back to New York, the city where the star died from an accidental overdose in January, for the screening of Batman Begins sequel The Dark Knight on 14 July.
Christopher Nolan, the film's director, has also created a memoriam to the actor, which will be shown at the end of the movie.
