The Wolverine In Place of Hugh Jackman?

I like Hugh. Don't love him in the role, but I like him and am grateful for his casting. His leading man looks and stature have given the character (and film genre) tons of general audience appeal that it wouldn't have gotten with a shorter, stockier, slightly less attractive guy.

But we're in a different era now, where they can actually shy away from stereotypical/cookie cutter casting choices in terms of physicality.

I sincerely hope when Jackman is done Fox does the proper thing and reinvents the character closer to his comic book counterpart. If they just try to get someone to mimic Jackman's look/portrayal it will fall flat. They can absolutely go with a gruffer, darker, more sarcastic characterization now. Hell, use him like Hulk. Small doses that steal the movie(s).

That being said, my vote is still with Christian Kane. The guy is short, stocky, has a good voice and generally looks like a mean scrapper.

Agreed Poni, I would put up a pic of him as Elliot instead of leslie from Angel though. He has been My number one pick since that show came out(Leverage)

talk about downgrading acting wise lol

thats like getting David Boreanaz to replace bale for batman

I'd like to see Karl Urban's attempt at Wolverine.

I the more I see Manu Bennet in Arrow the more I think he'd be a good wolverine

I don't think he is any younger but Gerard Butler would make a pretty good Wolverine I think.

the most ferocious and truest depiction of Wolverine was still portrayed by the child actor at the start of Wolverine and not by Jackman at all...

I think Tom Hardy would be a good choice! He's short like wolverine he's demonstrated he can bulk up(Bronson, Warrior and TDKR) he can also bring emotion, depth into the character (something Jackman I think can't do) and grow out his facial hair to look meaner. After seeing him in Bronson and Warrior as Tommy Rhiordan I can't imagine what he could do with a character like Wolverine

When I was following the development of the first film in the internets infancy, the days of Coronas Coming Attractions (1997)... Before I ever heard of a guy named Hugh Jackman, my 2 picks were Russell Crowe and Gary Sinise.

Tom Hardy would make a great Wolverine, but what do you mean Jackman can't bring depth to the character? I completely disagree with you on that.

I don't want Jackman to stop playing Wolverine, I just want the writers to write him more like comic book Wolverine. But if they were to ever recast, I'd definitely go with Hardy.

I was a regular on there too! :woot:

In comics Logan looks like 50 years old man, so Jackman at this moment is ideal for the role.
He should play Wolverine till 2020.

I disagree that Jackman can't bring depth to Wolverine.

Hardy wouldn't have jumped out at me for Wolverine, but he could probably do it. It'd take some getting used to for anyone besides Jackman at this point though.

My issue has never been with Jackman, it's with his material and the way the writers make him the "star" of everything.

I think the main thing is that Jackman seems, at times, to be trying to maintain an image of being a megastar. And maybe he has no terrible inner demons that can colour his character a little. He's an all-round nice guy.

But sometimes flaws can make an actor more interesting. Tortured souls and those with that inner black hole they have fed with addictions (like Downey, Oldman, Ledger) can make great actors because they bring their flawed personas to the screen.

^ Hardy definitely fits in with those as well. He's been extremely forthright and candid about his past battles with drugs and alcohol, and says he feels like he wrestles an 800 pound ape in his mind on a daily basis.

I think Hardy can do to Jackman's "Wolverine" what Garfield did to Maguire's "Spider-Man" make us totally forget about thee previous incarnation
Harry's acting talent IMO totally blows Jackman's outta the water
Jackman is good but it's because no other actor has been given a chance

Has anyone considered Nick Chinlund in the role? I know his name has been mentioned a few times, but I haven't seen any real pros and cons.

It will be weird for me when he does hang up his claws because he just feelis like Wolverine to me now. That being said I seen Hardy mentioned he would be an awesome replacement. Also I had the strange thought of Mark Whalberg think he could also make a good Wolverine.
