Independence Day 2? - Part 1

isn't this the first of two planned films?

I remember, way back, Emmerich talked about this being part 2 of 3 part idea

He said a 3rd movie depended on how well this sequel performs.

If this one is a huge hit, I can see them throwing a boatload of money at Smith to come back for the third one and retconning his death.

fixed easily... you just write it like he and Levinson sent him off on some secret mission and faking his death was "all a part of the plan"

Yeh bringing Smith back from the dead wouldnt be the most unrealistic thing Emmerich has done.

Looks like the first one but with larger stakes. Exactly what I expected from an Independence Day sequel.

As it should be. While it's unlikely it will do as well, I feel like I'm going to enjoy this more than Jurassic World.

Just saw the new trailer, I like the look of Earth infused with the technology we plundered from the aliens after the first war, and the film looks like a big fun spectacle to me.

I'm curious if there was ever a mention of 90s technology being reverse engineered from that first alien attacker ship. It would lend credence to the ability for the aliens to have been beaten by a human computer virus the first go around.

Well the scientists at Area 51 were working with a crashed ship for decades (and I think that there might have been a mention of reverse engineering during the scene with Data, but I'd have to go back and check).

I hope this time Emmerich is more thoughtful with his countdowns. Because those 30 seconds to escape the mothership were the longest 30 seconds on film I can recall. :funny:

It does ring a bell, but I can't remember any exact quote... But it reminds me that the first Transformers movie said a lot of modern tech was reverse engineered from Megatron, though.

I am really excited for this.
I love the fact that it is truly something that happened decades ago, it gives it a more epic feel.

the article mentions a viral video pulled down by Fox
Why did they do that?

Yes, there was a short mention of them being able to reverse engineer some stuff but nothing super important because the ship was dormant until the invading fleet showed up

Cool! Love the look of the fighter Jets.

Recruitment video.
Well, at least they are all in with the world that they are trying to sell.

It's like a "serious" version of Starship Troopers.
