Playstation Insomniac's Wolverine

That is true although I expect there to be some vertical gameplay.

So, let's guess that for the moment, this may be a Wolvie game set in Madripoor...

Since this is it's own Universe (shared with the Spidey games), I'm curious whether this will be Wolvies first time and adventure in Madripoor, or will we get an older, experienced Wolvie who's already lived as Patch and is coming back?

There's a lot of great early Madripoor stories, would be cool to see Insomniac's spin on that. Personally, I would love canonically for this to be a Wolverine who has just recently lost Mariko and is still in mourning/recovering from that.

They did say it was an emotional story they were crafting.

Both spiderman and spiderman miles morales where pretty emotion games even more so spiderman so yeah insomanic has show they can give a good emotion story.

That trailer has honestly had me so jazzed, it's had me on a real X-Men kick.

I've just started listening to The Long Night, that Wolverine narrative podcast Marvel did and it's pretty great. As much as I love the idea of a Wolvie game set in Madripoor, the podcast also got me very excited for what an open world Canada Wilderness would be like haha

Yeah that podcast was a really fun one to listen to. And the sequel is even better. Makes me wonder what insomniac has up their sleeves.

He was always massive...He never really stopped being massive... and like Batman and Spiderman he will stand the test of time..
While Wolverine is not quite that level of popular but he is close and he will always be a popular character.

Even all the crazy revelations, retcons and weirdness writers have put him through haven't dampened the character.

I really enjoyed that podcast, especially with Gambit in season 2. They wouldn't go wrong if they had Richard Armitage reprise his role for this game imo. It will be interesting to see which characters they use and who they cast for the game.

I think his popularity will be on another level (highest ever) with the GA if his MCU version is placed as a leading MCU character like Cap/Iron Man as I believe is at least a possibility, as well as guest starring in MCU X-Men films. He's always been massively popular in geek culture since his introduction and known by most of the younger GA through comics and animation alone, but if he makes it as a MCU leader then he will be a household name amongst people who detest and actively ignore all geek-related media and talk, are over 80, and from countries where no comics/animated series were ever released. That is the true measure of huge lol.

Bit odd they start advertising for that job this long after the announcement trailer.

Just means they're in the very early stages. Theres probably a ton of positions to fill.

As someone who freelance writes game trailers, I can tell you trailers are often outsourced to Animation studios too. When they're devising the trailers, the studios themselves usually have very few solid ideas on what will actually be in the game.

The number of times i've had to start entire drafts from scratch because the client has decided they're changing the major villain or "That level won't be in the game" etc.

The Wolverine trailer is great but plays it VERY safe in terms of confirming any details, so I doubt much had been planned by that stage.

Good to know, and good job you have. :cwink:

It certainly keeps things interesting! Although NDA's mean working on a lot of cool stuff that you can't talk about haha
Does it mean you can never talk about those things or can you after a trailer is released or after a certain time? Very cool regardless for any level of game. Fun to be on that side of things. Hopefully the next time we get a Wolverine trailer it blows us away.

It depends. I write them freelance for a VFX company, so I just have to stick to their rules. The general rule of thumb is, if they publicly post about it, then I'm allowed to talk about it too haha. But there's stuff I wrote like, 18 months ago that I still can't talk about.

And yeah, the games vary. It's funny because the games I get most excited to work on, tend to have the more predictable "play it safe" kind of trailers. Whereas stuff like franchise Mobile games, which I wouldn't normally care about, they'll do a trailer that just goes absolutely bonkers and is much more fun to write.

But something like the Wolverine trailer is an interesting case study, because it's so short and doesn't reveal much, but from the level of environmental detail in that animation, it still would've taken a lot of work and I'm willing to bet there are a lot more hidden details in some of those frames than people have noticed. I bet there's like easter eggs on the alcohol bottle labels, Whiskey vintage years based on comic issues etc. The VFX artists go nuts for that kind of stuff haha

Oh wow, very interesting. I wouldn't have had a clue about any of that. I'm sure Insomniac know they need to get Wolvieboy in for the full Wolverine trailer when they want it done properly.

Oh man, don't even. If ever there was a writing job I would move across the world for in a heartbeat, it would be this one. I don't care what needs doing, I'll write it. Toilet stall graffiti? 5,000 different henchman grunts? I'M IN.

Haha. They need to see this. Their toilet stalls will be lacking without your graffiti. :hehe: Hire this guy!

So, in the absence of any info:

What villains would we like to see in this game?
What allies would we like to see assisting Logan?

Would love to see Yukio show up at some point (or any of the Japan and Madripoor regulars)

I'm sure that we'll be seeing Sabretooth even though he likely won't be the main villain. Lady Deathstrike is another one that will likely show up. I also wouldn't mind seeing Juggernaut in the game.

As for allies, I'd prefer to see Logan work mostly alone but I could see them throwing in a few X-Men appearances like Colossus, Kitty Pryde and MAYBE a tiny Deadpool cameo if they can't resist his popularity.
