After director Bryan Singer left X Men: The Last Stand in the fall of 2004, screenwriter Simon Kinberg (Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Fantastic Four 1 and 2) and Zak Penn (X Men 2) had six months to complete two warring drafts, which would then be wedded into a "Frankenstein draft," said Kinberg. "Instead of competing as strangers, we decided to try to work together and present a united front." They duked it out with Twentieth Century Fox as they wedged both Joss Whedon's cure plot and Dark Phoenix into X Men 3. Penn became the tough bad cop, while Kinberg was "the scared kitten. Zak was my bodyguard." It sounds like Kinberg could take care of himself. When he wanted the studio to do things his way, he'd say, "I ran it by Hugh [Jackman], and he doesn't like it."

So FOX didnt want Cyclops in the film because he followed Singer....the writers got him the first 10 minutes of the film. Then boom. Anna was filming another film so she wasnt in the final battle and didnt have much screen time. Thats fair enough. I think the silent Phoenix is better than over the top death threats. I think FOX did good in that sense.

FOX using Halle and Hugh is probably a good move for them as they paid a lot of money for them so they might aswell use them.

Well I think it could have come off cheesy if she goes all verbal on us. I suppose it depends on how they do it. During the final scenes she was like a monster, no talking all action until her last seconds when she says 'Would you die for them' and then 'Save me'.

The whole 'I'm going to kill you now' is used too often in movies. I would have liked more Jean in X3 but more of her silent dangerous type.

Fair FAIR
Dark Phoenix does the death threats good and it makes Jean Dark Phoenix...
And NO Rogue in the Final Battle fair enough? I don't think so.... Rogue is a leading character she did not deserve it what was done to her in X3...
X4 better be good for Rogue

I was saying it was fair enough because Anna couldnt physically make it to the set. I'd have liked Rogue in the final battle just like everyone else.

Jean should and could have been far more prominent in the film. She could have had some kind of confrontation with Storm (whos like a sister) and some interaction with her parents just like in the comic.

I also feel that there should have been a Phoenix bird and a Phoenix rise sequence from the lake.*sighs*

I knew it! it was a Wolverine&Storm movie all along. :o

ok that does it! i hate fox now! x men 3 is a hugh jackman famke janssen movie ! no lines for famke so she won't get in halle's way for being the female lead?geeeee halle berry has sunk so low i hope she doesn't return for any future x-films

How incredibly irritating that the studio felt the need to hold Phoenix back just so Hugh and Halle were at the forefront. I can't believe they would be willing to sacrifice a good STORY for the sakes of keeping their mugs on screen.

It seems I lose more and more respect for movie studios every day...

At least we have a reason why Rogue wasn't in the final battle now. I thought it was just an awful awful error on the writers part, but now I see it couldn't be helped.

The way the movie was promoted showed Fox's intentions. Look at where Jean is. Some where way in the back.

They didn't want Famke to become a big star at all.

Thats a stab in the heart man... :( after all the hard work she and james did, they were looking forward to exploring the relationship between Jean and Sco tt but did they get to do that!?! NO! I hate you Fox. -cries-

Totally agree with you.

A Hugh and Halle film? What?? :down :down :down

I'll only say one thing:

DAMM YOU, FOX, AND YOUR PHILOSOPHY!!

This studio doesn't deserve to have this franchise in his hands. Really really sad.

You should have checked out my dream about Phoenix rising... It was awsome. i dreamt of what happened and what should have happened in x3.

-sighs-

Eh I'm sick of this ****. I'm just gonna keep my mouth shut on this subject.

All this just makes me more angre on X3, i like it, but it could have been better and the best but as Fox love Logan and Hugh and Halle, we had the best story in the X-world not made as it should have been, and how cruel of them not to want to have James and Famke in it as much, maybe they should have read about there characters as them two have the biggest story really, damn them!!>
I still think Scotts alive, if they wanted him dead they would have showed his death onscreen his alive somewhere waiting for Jean to come back.

What with the three alternate endings on the DVD, I have no trouble imagining one would be Scott.

But none of this really bothers me. I feel bad for Rogue's character, and that there was Less of Jean than planned... I really hate that this is Halle and Hugh's movie." But I've accepted what happened to Cyclops... and if you think about what really did happen, you'll notice that it makes sense in the movie world. Besides, we know he isn't really dead...

^^^ who's side am I on? Po czyjej stronie jestm? Po stronie moich bochaterow!!! On the side of the characters that got screwed in this film!!! Only FOX would take the major players of the PHoenix Saga, namely Jean and Scott, them both in the far background like that just so that the story about them focuses instead of Wolverine. bleh!

It's also interesting to note that this Polish release poster which asks "on whose side will you be?" shows only the GOOD guys, and Jean is among them. I take that as a good sign :)
