This Lincoln commercial could almost be a teaser for "Interstellar"

Sometimes you've got to go back, to actually move forward.

What's the deal with his ring, he has the same ring in Interstellar....... even when astronauts aren't supposed to be wearing rings.

Mind blown at 8AM, secret IMAX screening of #Interstellar in NY. So proud to be in it.

Nolan is a frontrunner? I am elated, of course, but it seems hard to believe based on their snubbing of him in the past. Exactly how many have seen Interstellar for there to be such magnanimous forecasts?

I suppose he's free of the shackles of the Batman franchise now, so they're probably willing to take him a little more seriously. Plus, this is his first Oscar-Bait movie since The Prestige, although clearly the academy was wasn't paying too much attention then.

It's Nolan, with a few Oscar winning actors doing something a bit ''artsy-fartsy'' (I hate that term), so he'll be looked upon as a serious contender this year, regardless of the final product.

I do wonder if Richard Linklater will end up being a serious contender for Best Director, just based on the sheer novelty of Boyhood (which I loved).

I'm glad that the Oscar buzz for this movie is building, but only because I want the movie to be good. I mean, I'd love to see Nolan walk off the stage with a golden statue in his hand after delivering a trademark classy/witty acceptance speech...but I don't put too much stock into the Oscars anymore. Not to mention there are so many great movies released every year, it almost gets arbitrary picking the best one.

Maybe this is the year the stars align for him, but that's just a bonus. I'd rather the movie be spectacular and win no major awards than be an overrated BP winner.

Opening weekend: $79 M
Cumulative: $332 M

Insterstellar
(Warner Bros.)

PROS:

- Christopher Nolan has earned tons of mainstream trust over the last 10 years or so. Few directors working today command the respect that he does.
- Matthew McConaughey is on fire these days following his Oscar win for Dallas Buyers Club and his spot-on turn in HBO's True Detective.
- Never underestimate the drawing power of a sci-fi film that defies genre conventions. For proof, look no further than 2013's Gravity.
- The film's supporting cast is very strong. Having Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain in the mix will help bring in key female demos.
- Interstellar looks like it could be Nolan's first attempt at a tear-jerker. If that's the case, it could improve the film's staying power.
- Nolan's passion for secrecy means that moviegoers will be truly surprised when they watch it for the first time.
CONS:
- Opening the same weekend as Big Hero 6 will mean plenty of competition for family crowds.
- An over-crowded slate in late November/December could slow Interstellar down.

Word is a lot of people outside the studio who have seen an early peak have said it's amazing. It's one thing if it's people inside the studio, that's a grain of salt situation, it's another thing if outsiders with nothing at stake are saying it.

I'd hardly call it Oscar bait, we're still talking about a Sci-Fi movie here.

Christopher Nolan should stick with sci-fi for a while.

Hopefully Anne's character gets one of those posters, too.

Hopefully the TV - Spots will focus on the wow & the spectacle

Has anybody watched Cosmos? The new one that aired on FOX this year I mean, it's on Netflix now if you didn't catch it when it aired. It's wonderful. The warm reception it got bodes well for this movie, I think. The science community is probably gonna go bananas for Interstellar, but I'm really hoping that mainstream interest in science and space exploration is on its way to making a comeback.

I loved Cosmos... never missed an episode. :hrt:

That a great poster, although I still prefer the previous one more.

The more I see from Interstellar, the more I wanna re-watch Europa Report.
