It has been argued by many that the females in Nolan's films are objects and that they are the weakest aspects of his film.

Personally, after INCEPTION and THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, I can't agree with the mantra at all because those films don't work with the women...even if said women's ultimate point in those films is in relation how they help the main protagonist.

Not being the focus is different from being an object.

I agree but it's the one thing critcs/bloggers continue to critique in his work...which means that his next film, more than likely, will have a female as the lead just as this film seems to be an answer to him being labeled a "cold" filmmaker...which I think is utter nonsense.

I agree but it's the one thing critcs/bloggers continue to critique in his work...which means that his next film, more than likely, will have a female as the lead just as this film seems to be an answer to him being labeled a "cold" filmmaker...which I think is utter nonsense.

Creating characters outside your own gender isn't always easy for certain people, some people excel at it better than others, some just find it too difficult to write for the opposite gender so they tend to walk on the side of caution and create characters that are a bit more neutral.

I absolutely do not see Nolan ever writing/directing a female lead film. The thought is pretty laughable to me actually. On the off chance such a thing happens...god bless his heart.

I think Keira Knightley put it best. If you want more female lead films that have an actual female perspective, you need to hire more female directors. In other words, don't call Nolan. Call someone who knows what they are doing on that front.

Completely agree with this. I think this is mostly the cause of why you see so many male leads in film. It has mostly to do with male director's just not really equipped enough to write for the opposite sex in a satisfactory manner, hence sticking with what one knows.

On an Interstellar related note, they decided to expand Laggies this week, the same week Interstellar and Big Hero 6. Which of course means it is not playing anywhere near me.

I'm not trying to tease you but Laggies is playing in my neck of the woods this weekend...okay maybe I'm trying to tease you a little.

I only have the funds for Interstellar though so I'm not going to see it.

If it was playing here, Laggies would be my first choice. Dead serious about it. The only things more powerful then my man crushes for McAvoy and Nolan, are my crushes on Keira and Emma Watson. The closest theater is like 70 miles and I have family obligations this weekend.

Interstellar is becoming such a different animal in my mind. My excitement for it is being overpowered by my curiosity. The reactions have been so vast and varied, to the point that it feels like people are watching completely different films. I don't know what to expect from Interstellar at this point.

There's an entire Seinfeld episode about this very subject. Ironically, the joke about them not being able to write a female character in their show resulted in them writing one of the best female characters in television history.

It happens across all mediums too. I know from personal experience it's harder for me to illustrate a female character than a male, mostly because I'm far more familiar with my own features. It's hard to be objective sometimes when it comes to creating something, no matter who the creative person is or what field they are in their personal perspective on things tend to show through.

the IMAX tech running our screening said it was 2hr 50min. He said IMAX had to shorten the opening credits so the film would fit on their platter.

Ya know, I never paid much attention to her interviews until recently when I saw her on Graham Norton's show and I have to say I was really surprised at how witty, insightful and generally well-spoken she is. Wonderfully candid, too. I always thought she was a pretty good actress and that was about it, but lately I've really become a fan. She's awesome.

As for sound issues in this movie, I didn't really notice any at my IMAX screening, except for one part where Zimmer's music swells over a message Chastain is recording to the point that you can't hear the end of it, but I assumed that was intentional given the context because just a few minutes later we hear the part that the music had drowned out again with perfect clarity.

Is this a problem with the sound mix in general (meaning all prints have this issue) or do just the IMAX prints have issues? Cause it sounds like a problem with the original sound mix not the theater. Whatever it is, my theater wont refund me my $25 for a crappy sound mix they arent responsible for so if I cant hear what the dialogue is in scenes Im gonna be a bit peeved.
