Interstellar - Part 8

You gotta love the "you're dumb if you don't love Instellar" crowd. Classy.

In fairness, a lot of the critics of the movie go on like this:

David Denby, movie reviewer for The New Yorker, for example, says that Interstellar is “ardently, even fervently incomprehensible, a movie designed to separate the civilians from the geeks, with the geeks apparently the target audience.” He continues, “There’s no doubting Nolan’s craft…but, overall, ‘Interstellar’—a spectacular, redundant puzzle, a hundred and sixty-seven minutes long—makes you feel virtuous for having sat through it rather than happy that you saw it.”

YOU need a pHd in physics to understand the Inception director's bewildering and overblown tale of Matthew McConaughey saving the world

The people who claim you're dumb for not liking Nolan's movies, and the people who lump anyone who does like Nolan's movies in with rabid "fanboys" are both idiots.

You defending that sort of bullying from some of the Nolan zealots tells me all I need to know about you DA Champion.

How would you describe the quotes then?

David Denby on Interstellar said:

You can't just subtract the scale and presentation from Interstellar though. Scale is a big part of what Nolan wants to do these days, and with that comes big budgets. And that means some mass appeal.

If you take that away from Interstellar, then it's just a bunch of scientists sitting around and talking about astrophysics.

Whatever the final box office tally is for this (and it will easily be profitable), I hope Nolan keeps doing his thing.

Also, in my experience DA Champion is a totally reasonable and mellow poster...

Nolan's problem is that he's trying to make big movies with mass appeal.

This is not a problem whatsoever.

Unless Nolan straight up does a big dumb comedy, his career will be in decline, and it's starting with this movie. Interstellar truly is a masterpiece, but most people don't really care about stuff like that anymore.

Yes. I see these same type of comments from the same people way too often.

Be careful what you say, everyone. We're all one Nolan comment away from being "Nolan zealots", "Nolan apologists", or "Nolanites" and getting ignored!

He got ignored because he said agreed that anyone who doesn't like Interstellar is an idiot. I don't want to converse with people like that.

I'm seeing Interstellar on Tuesday. I will be back Tuesday night to discuss.

Just to make it simple:

Likes: I thought visually it was very well done, close to gravity well done. I thought the action scenes were well done, and the acting was very well done. I thought it had good character development and it made you care for the characters. Matthew was by far the best actor in this movie he put the movie on his shoulders and carried it.

Dislikes: At first getting all the clues and the way it all came together seemed to strain the brain. Though, most of it was due to length of the movie which I found to be way too long. Least favorite sequence was the finding of Mann(Damon), it just didn't have any flow or impact to story imo. The robots, at first I hated them, but after abit they became okay.

* I don't know if they said why the Earth was dying, if they did I missed it.
They referring to a "Blight" , a disease that was slowly killing all crops but gave no further explanation, I wanted more detail.

I'm glad no explanation was given. Would have been a waste of time and/or dialogue, and it wouldn't have affected the story one way or another.

I hope Nolan stays on his current course .
You don't learn anything if you don't take risks .

I don't rule out Interstellar having good legs but Inception good legs? Inception had July weekdays, is a more fun film and Inception didn't face a film like Mockingjay in it's 3rd weekend. We will see but I'd be shocked if Interstellar's legs were as good as Inception. I'll give it a 3.5 multiplier but as I said I'll be shocked if it has much better legs than that.
Yep it must be opposite day here folks. :oldrazz:

Plus the whole direct follow up to that TDK/Ledger zeitgeist thing. Doesn't feel like he's in the same place these days.

If Thomas Tull somehow got Nolan to take over Pacific Rim, would that be a good thing?
For the audience that is.
Also would it stand to make more money than with GTD.

Nope, Nolan should pursue his passion projects.

Weird question to ask.
