Interstellar - Part 8

Well, this wasn't horrible, but a little disappointing. I was hoping this film would be more ambiguous, but it was pretty straightforward. It didn't quite have the emotional impact it should have, or was aiming for, but if anything, it makes it clear to me that we as a civilization are doomed.

Kind of feels like Nolan is losing his touch personally. 6/10

Wow, I couldn't have come away with a more different feeling. I thought the ultimate message was very hopeful and deeply humanistic.

I watch a lot of science shows .
I see a lot of stuff about potential cosmic catastrophes that will destroy The Earth in billions of years .
But , what if we knew the world could end in our lifetime?
How would that affect our choices , both as a species and as individuals ?
To me thats what the movie was about.
but , I hope you are wrong about civilization being doomed.

I didn't really see it about civilisation being doomed. Quite the opposite, I thought the message was supposed to be an optimistic one, that no matter what might be thrown at us - even the destruction of our world - human ingenuity and passion will find a way to ensure our civilization continues on.

Basically regardless of how *******-ish we may become, we always find ways to survive. If we knew some kind of cataclysm was about to happen every single person would be coming up with random **** to avert or escape it.

That's what I love about Nolan's films...he engrains everything in the theme and his endings are always perfect crystallizations of that theme.

We knew from the first teaser that this film was about how humanity needs to look back to the stars to find its way...but the way this comes into focus with the ending is just beautiful.

I have to say one thing about Nolan; his films always have an incredible ending that sticks with you, in fact they are a highlight of every single film he has made.

This. After thinking about it, Interstellar's is my favorite one yet.

I think I will need to see Interstellar again to decide where it sits for me, but there was an incredible vibe I got from its ending that said so much for me; [BLACKOUT]exploration, adventure, hope, moving forward, innovating, love[/BLACKOUT].

It may be Nolan's most inspiring ending to date.

the only thing the ending of this film did for me was just tell me that if there is a sequel, it's gonna be about him and anne hathaway starting and continuing mankind on another planet.

If that's truly what you think, then I feel really sorry since you've just wasted nearly 3 hours of your life.

you don't have to feel sorry for me, i'll be the judge of whether it was a waste of my time or not, and it wasn't because i liked it.

instead, why don't you tell me what deeper meaning you think this ending holds

Is this the first blockbuster to use:

- time dilation as a plot device;
- planets orbiting black holes;
- rotating black holes;

Aldo I think it's a major plus that the two planets we saw were totally original. I'm getting tired of alien planets that look like Earth.

I don't think it's as "punchy" as TDK, Inception, Prestige, Memento, maybe even TDKR, but yes, it's indeed very hopeful and optimistic.

And it does introduce the theory about [blackout]Brand's colony on Planet Edmunds eventually being the humans that make the wormhole to save the humans on earth. At the very least, it places her as Eve for the planet, being its first "mother."[/blackout] And we don't end up nuking each other! :awesome:

So even though the movie initially says she's all alone, she's actually not. :yay:

Really?

Human endeavor in the face of grief and adversity.
The importance of the human instinct.
Evolution of the human species.
"Mankind was born on Earth, it was never meant to die here."

There's probably more to it than the points mentioned. If you couldn't at least take in the optimism in the ending,in conjunction with the ****** state of events in the world, you're not appreciating the movie.

Yeah that's something I can agree on, there was a sort of different vibe I got from this ending and you just described it very well; not as "punchy". But I think that served it well actually, there was this almost calm welcoming sense of optimism in the feeling of the ending compared to how grandiose the entire film is. I love that.

[BLACKOUT]That theory is pretty damn cool to me when I first read it, it made perfect sense and made me enjoy Brand's ending even more. Not to mention there is the chance Coop was going to fly and see her and that's a damn lovely thought. I also love how it shows that Coop is no longer limited to indulge in his ambitions of exploring; he's an explorer and someone who desires to seek out how to move forward, and in the end he got that as well.[/BLACKOUT]

God I love this film.

i don't need to "appreciate" the movie. i liked the movie, and i'll buy it on blu-ray. but i ain't in love with it and you don't need to force me to.

i find that there can be a double meaning to "Mankind was born on Earth, it was never meant to die here." to me, it could also mean we were never meant to die here so that means we are destined to SAVE the earth from its doom, and stay.

I saw it yesterday I loved it all the main cast was on point, this is also the first film I saw with Jessica in it, I really dug her performance and would see more of her stuff. Oh and is it just me or does young Murph look like Jane Levy?

Also, slight tangent, I liked Interstellar but MAN... tonight I sat and watched Snowpiercer on Netflix on my little laptop screen and it ended up totally upstaging Interstellar on IMAX.

Snowpiercer was a good movie. Great acting and better than I was expecting. Unfortunately, the whole movie falls apart when you realize the whole thing could have been prevented, if only someone put a $5 outside temperature guage on their billion dollar train.

Saw it again tonight and enjoyed it a lot. I don't have any problems with the story like some of you guys have been discussing.

My only problem is the sound. Why was there so much bass during quiet dialogue scenes? It seemed random too. Tonight's screening was louder than Thursday night. Same exact screen, but the theater people must have decided to pull a Spinal Tap and "crank it to 11." Zimmer's score this time around drowned out quite a bit more dialogue than it did Thursday night. I don't know why Nolan is so obsessed with "louder is better." No it isn't. This is a great movie IMHO, but it would be even better if it was a very quiet movie instead of a very loud one.

The guy next to me kept covering his ears because of how loud the sound was. I figured he must have hated the movie. But the good thing is after the show was over, he asked me if I thought they would make a sequel. I said I don't know. He said he figures it will depend on the box office and I agreed. Then he said, "I don't go to the movies often but this one was really good. Better than that other space movie with the girl and George Clooney." He was probably in his 40's. Seemed like a blue collar guy (we're in an oil boom town). I was pretty shocked to hear such a positive reaction from him after watching him cover his ears so much throughout the movie. If I was that bothered by the sound, I probably would have walked out.

There's two!? So is there one not in the trailer (this is a spoiler I dont mind knowing) though please dont give any details.

Oh are they both water/ice type planets?
Something like that .
Edit: to be more precise,
I think that it is safe to say the trailers and ads are a fairly accurate representation of what they find .
