A nice breakdown of differences between the final film and Jonah Nolan's 2008 draft for Spielberg.

I know many of you have read that draft already. Personally I avoided it like the plague. There are some really interesting differences and interesting early versions of things that were in the film.

His score for this is absolutely wonderful. A huge departure and it's unique and a perfect fit. That docking sequence? The organs? JESUS CHRIST. Hans Zimmer still got it, that beautiful man.

YES. THE ORGANS. Absolutely brilliant stuff.

The score was pretty great. Nice to hear something that doesn't sound like Zimmer's usual fare.

I know it's not completely relevant to the film; I just saw that this morning and was like, "WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA???!!"

This is a great film that is only flawed by some technical issues. I saw the film in IMAX and visually this is way better than Gravity was. The photo real effects are what makes this movie, where Gravity looks like a freaking video game.

The problems with this movie are the sound editing was ****! I noticed this same problem on TDKR, which makes me wonder if this stuff is getting a pass. There are multiple times where the music and effects overpower the voice track. I do alot with sound engineering so this stuff bugs the hell out of me. This movie would be a perfect 10/10 if it weren't for this.

I also think some of the editing was sloppy about 3/4ths of the way through the film where they are cutting back between the Endurance and Earth.

But the key to this film is Matthew McConaughey. He will get a best actor nod for this role, and right now I would say he will be the first actor since Tom Hanks and only the 3rd actor ever to win back to back Oscars for Best Actor.

I feel I need to see the film again, as there are still many questions that I have, but IMO this was Nolan's best work since the Prestige.

I think If Spielberg had directed this, he would have preferred the first script, which fits Spielberg's style.

Where Aliens had built the worm hole, there is a no Dr. Mann character but a Robot gone wrong, murphy as a boy, a sex scene between Brand and cooper, no library books but message is delivered via probe sent back in time, Coop does not meet murph when he gets back, he meets her third generation. No mention of 5th dimensional beings...

Final numbers show Christopher Nolan's Interstellar falling short of its projected $50 million debut at the North American box office. The space opus earned $47.5 million for the weekend, putting it's five-day launch at $49.7 million.

Considering the long run-time (almost 3 hours).... which results in less screenings per theater per day and non-mainstream subject matter, I think it's doing well.

Yeah, there were quite a few. Though I liked Sunshine a lot more. Both were great sci-fi films, but Sunshine is one of my favorite films of all time.

Its a much better take, visually for sure it gave a lot more grand ideas. I wish we had gotten that movie instead

I prefer Sunshine too although not by much. Interstellar was definitely more ambitious and grand (it made Sunshine look like an indie ) but I think Sunshine is more tight and cohesive.

I like some of the ideas more (the Chinese instead of Dr. Mann), but I much prefer the father/daughter/fifth dimension story line of the final film.

Its funny to me that the off hand "frozen cloud" is descended from a much larger and important idea in an earlier draft. [BLACKOUT]Dr. Mann's fals description of the planet having a true surface under the ice at a lower altitude more or less matches the description in the film.[/BLACKOUT]

Really? Because I honestly don't like Sunshine very much because it kind of hits a wall at the third act and switches into a slasher film in a way I don't find to particularly effective. It is the exact opposite of what I would ever call cohesive.

INTERSTELLAR

Director Christopher Nolan gives the audience a little bit of everything in his latest film Interstellar.

Earth is slowly but surely becoming a dustbowl almost unable to sustain human life.
Fortunately a wormhole by Saturn may lead to a planet/s that will sustain human life.

Interstellar provides a number of intriguing views on time,black holes,life forms,higher levels of being
and all wrapped around a gigantic theme of love.Love between a father and daughter,love between a man and
woman,love that surpasses,time,space,and even death.
This is all coupled with some great SFX ,edge of your seat moments and enough raw emotion to make a tear or two well
up.

The cast does a fine job,from the Earth bound humans ,to the space and wormhole,black hole bound astronauts plus thrown in
a couple of extremely unique robots.

The third act becomes a bit choppy,and the narrative is jumpy,and some scenes are far to drawn out so much so i started checking my watch
but Interstellar is still a wonder to behold on the big screen and will make you think plus provide awe.

Scale of 1-10 an 8½

I thing Spilbergs version was more coherent and visually appealing. ITs not the first time he tackled this issues, i dont know if you ever played The Dig, but it has a lot of elements of the 5th dimension.

Nolans version was just a bore for me visually, it was well done technically but nothing stood out or impressed me. It really has his stamp, a technically good movie, but with tons of exposition and sterile visuals. No better example than how he imagines the 5th dimension, i mean really? that's how far your imagination goes? and don't tell me its scientifically accurate, no one knows how all of this works so you pretty much had no limits, i was greatly disappointed by the visuals

Huh, really?

I thought the fact that in the script, the Chinese [BLACKOUT]basically did ALL of the work behind some mysterious curtain that nobody saw before[/BLACKOUT] was an incredibly weak part of the script. All the protagonists did was find it and take it.


But yes, I did note the observations about the ice planet were taken from the old script.

I'm glad that Nolan improved and revised the original script, the original script is derivative, corny and cringe-worthy.

Getting Aliens to come forward to help humans is lazy writing, so is troupe of using robot gone Bad or making Cooper responsible for unleashing fractal "Aliens" who take over Earth idea.
