It's really silly thing to complain about at this point

If they made this too grounded, I am going to be rather annoyed.

"To me, when I first encountered the character, it seemed to me like these were not the greatest super powers in the world. Like, 'all he can do is punch really hard?'," Buck recalls. "But that's sort of what appealed to me about it – he has this one gift, and he can use it some ways, but in the rest of [his] life, it's just not all that significant."

"[Danny's] greatest gift is just his martial arts skills, and that's not a super power – that's something he struggled for and earned by training day and night throughout his whole childhood," he continues. "So from that perspective, we do try to keep it very real and grounded."

Oh, Vile i have been meaning to ask you, you have gotten the screeners right?

Now that the embargo is over, the answer is yes. I viewed the first six episodes.

Not surprised to see reviews knocking this around...still can't believe that Marvel let goddamn Scott Buck run not only this, but Inhumans. He's a garbage show runner. So disappointing to hear that Iron Fist is the first actual bust of the MCU. Danny Rand deserved better.

But hey! Scott Buck!

Scott Buck was the wrong guy for Iron Fist. After watching the first six episodes, that much is clear to me.

I guess I'm disappointed because I genuinely love this character and the Iron Fist comics. Of all the Marvel Netflix shows that were getting made, this was the one I was looking forward to the most. And now I'm disappointed because while it's far from a bad show, I feel like it's going to get trashed for not being as good as previous Netflix shows. It's going to get beaten around for one reason or another.

But what do I think the main problem is? Scott Buck was unwilling to embrace all the really cool exciting stuff about the Iron Fist character. He couldn't marry the cool fantastical martial arts story elements with the real world corporate political elements. At least that's the case based off episodes 1-6. Keep in mind this is a whole 13 episode season. Things pick up toward the end of the first half of the season, so it could still get better later on.

I'm still really angry about the costume.

Thanks for the review, Vile. These reviews are especially disheartening considering this is my favorite character of the Marvel/Netflix bunch and was therefore the one I was most excited about. But I was wary of Scott Buck from the moment they announced him, so I can't say I'm too surprised if he hasn't delivered. Oh well, I'm still planning to binge the whole thing the day of release like I did with the others and hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

It is really hard for me to care about reviews of less than half the season. I am going to wait and see Iron Fist in full, especially before worrying about other shows.

As far as Inhumans, I will wait until we get actual footage and a feel for what the show is before worrying.

I'm seriously concerned about Inumans now. Not sure how Buck was handed these two huge shows right off the bat at Marvel.

Anyway, here's my spoiler-free official review of the first six episodes:

Iron Fist Season 1 (Episodes 1-6) Review

Honestly doesn't sound THAT bad from your review? Very well written in any case. Sad to hear that it doesn't match DD in the action department but...eh, it does not sound ALL bad. Still...it's a goddamn Scott Buck show. SCOTT. BUCK!

If half your season sucks, does that ever work out?

Damn reading the reviews kinda got me down but I'm still looking forward to the show. Thanks for the review VileOne.

I'm pretty much in the same boat you are flickchick85. Hearing that we'd never get to see Danny suit up in season 1 was a very bitter pill for me to swallow. But all that aside, things do sort of pick up and get better toward the halfway point. I will still be there on March 17 to pick up the whole season.

But I hope this isn't a case of the show getting cancelled after the first season and we never get to see a true blue Iron Fist.

But yeah, they needed someone who could figure out how to do all the cool comic book and fantasy stuff and meld that to the street level urban vigilante business.

There's really no excuse for saying you can't figure out why Danny would need to wear a costume at the same time as saying him being a public billionaire and figure would give him reason to want to conceal his identity as a crimefighter and vigilante.

IGN makes it sound boring and like the fighting isn't all that great. Finn looking out of place doing it:

Though they do say it was getting more fun and comic booky as it went on.

To be fair, a lot of shows, episodic shows have trouble finding themselves early on. It's not uncommon for TV shows to have a rough footing early on in their runs. Sometimes it will take a long-running series 2-3 seasons to really hit its stride. I recall Person of Interest in its first couple episodes was a little rough and ill defined, but once it picked up, it was great.

But I think though it comes from a place of Scott Buck not being able to meld these disparate elements together in one TV series.

Also, let's face it. The Marvel Netflix group of shows famously went over so well for their dark, edgy gritty realism. The whole street level urban vigilante thing.

Iron Fist has elements that are far away from that. A hidden city, and also a magic dragon. I think the show is having trouble putting those things in but also trying to keep, real people, real situations in New York City thing.

Pretty fair. I'd say the action is a step above what we got in Jessica Jones and maybe Luke Cage, but well below the best stuff from Daredevil.

So Daredevil...

Lets see how the show is in its entirety before talking about not getting a second season, etc. Worst case, even if Iron Fist gets no 2nd season, I bet Danny will be in more Defenders stuff, and maybe they would work Danny into Luke Cage worst case.

But again, I think this discussion and doom/gloom is way too early. Again, that is 6 episodes you saw, not the whole show. The latter portion may justify the beginning yet.

I mean Steven McKnight is off directing Pacific Rim 2. So we were out of luck there.

But no, not Daredevil. It needed MORE of those elements than Daredevil. Daredevil's abilities aren't magic. There's no magic talking dragon.

I'm concerned because a lot of people are having similar reactions. Most of the other Marvel shows got a lot of positive reactions. So I'm concerned if it's not as well received they won't pursue it further.

I'm concerned here we won't ever get a proper Iron Fist and ever get to see him suit up. Scott Buck already confirmed he won't suit up this season.
