Iron Fist Iron Fist General Discussion Thread - Part 4

People keep saying that, but everybody forgets an incredibly important part Danny needs that Matt doesn't: the eye holes.

That's where the problem comes in. It looks fine when the character doesn't need to actually see out of it. But when you cut eye holes in there, it makes the design weird AF on a simple cloth mask.

I want Danny to have a mask, but it needs some molding to it. Not just a cloth he throws over his face.

Yeah I know. I was being fascetious. I wonder how much changing the eye design itself would help? But as far as your suggestion of molding, that's kinda why I'm behind him getting an actual cowl type headpiece with the cloth flowing from the back.

Regardless of the eye holes I think the silhouette or shape or fit just looks off compared to the Daredevil proto mask. Don’t know if it’s the shape of the actors head or what but it looks different.

It would be kind of neat if Danny finds Matt's mask in the rubble of the collapsed building from Defenders. A little spraypaint, and boom. A nice symbolic way for him to combine the ideologies of the Iron Fist with those of being a hero to the world outside of K'un L'un.

I think these masks are cheap looking on purpose. Kind of like Captain America's USO outfit, Jessica Jones' Jewel costume, or Luke Cage's original costume. It's a 100% comic accurate look without redesigning to be more modern or lived-in. As others have pointed out the Old Footage mask from last season looks amazing, if they wanted these masks to look amazing they could have easily done so. What has me excited is that at least now the mask exists and has relevance that Danny is aware of, so if he does get a costume then that mask's design now has a natural introduction.

I'm hoping Melvin Potter shows up as someone pitching his fabric armor to Rand enterprises, Danny notices it's similar material to Daredevil's outfit and convinces Potter to make his costume.

At the very least I'm glad there's a proto costume, One of the many things I didn't like about season one is that the wardrobe department never had him where green, something that both defenders and Luke Cage immediately remedied. At this point I'm just happy he's wearing green clothes and a yellow mask. Hopefully this will be his "hero outfit" instead of a one episode thing.

Honestly 8-9 episodes would be perfect. 10 is pretty good though.

the problem is they try to squeeze every main character into each and every episode (of the 13 episode seasons) even when several characters don't need to be. If a character has no overall purpose in the episode, why shoehorn them in.

I wondered that myself...if the masks in the flashback were crappy looking on purpose, and he simply uses the inspiration to make something that looks really legit.

If the VileOne is right, he does
NOT wear any mask
.

Vileone, you’ve yet to see the entire season, correct?

Not to speak for him, but if I remember right, he typically sees about half the season before it airs. The rest I think he has to watch on Netflix like most folks.

I think that is how these work with critics. Which means basically he is speculating like the rest of us.

I believe he mentioned an insider had told him the one time we see the mask is the only time it shows ([blackout]on Danny, Davos does wear it later[/blackout]).

Yes, now sometimes sources can be wrong depending who it is. It could someone from the writing staff who knows the ins and outs or it could be a crew member who heard that info from someone higher up. Or someone purposely misleading a critic for whatever reason.

We don't have a reason to doubt he has a source nor that the source is inaccurate. I hope he's wrong because I'd rather have the mask and costume than not but that seems unlikely now. Either way we will all know in a month and 7 days so whatever.

I haven't seen any screeners yet for Iron Fist S2.

For Luke Cage S2, we were given screeners for the entire season. Jessica Jones S2 was the first five as I recall. Defenders was the first four.

Punisher S1 was the first six. Iron Fist S1 was the first six.

Sometimes it has varied. Jessica Jones S1 was first 7. Daredevil S1 was first 5. Daredevil S2 was the first 7. Luke Cage S1 was first 7.

Luke Cage S2 was the only time media were allowed to view the entire season before launch for a Marvel Netflix show.

Weren't they only released 1-2 weeks prior to the series. I'd figure by Aug30, the reviews will be releasing.

Just a random thought since I'm reading through Power Man and Iron Fist by Mary Jo Duffy right now. This season talks a lot about how Danny Rand is going to fighting for justice on the streets and that Chinatown is his neighborhood. Would anyone want to see the Golden Tigers as a street gang he confronts? I think they only appeared a handful of times, but they would fit very well. There's also an Assistant District Attorney by the name of William Hao who would be nice to add to the list of prosecutor characters (who frankly will get killed) somewhere along the way.

The most exciting thing about having just 10 episodes isn't the potential for better pacing (because as The Defenders showed, having fewer episodes doesn't necessarily mean better pacing), it's the fact that they don't have to spread the budget as thin as they would with 13 episodes. Iron Fist could benefit from that because let's face it, it probably needs more CGI than the other shows. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage all have main characters with superpowers that can be easily demonstrated with practical effects and wire work, whereas Danny's fist needs to glow, which is something that requires CGI.

That's so true

Looking at the mask and trying to figure out what's off - sure there's the eyes but comparing it's basic cut with Matt's black mask in D/D Season One, I can see that mask went from the bottom of the nose and around, covering the ears, whereas this IF mask similarly goes from the bottom of the nose but then only covers half of the ears, almost giving the impression that its too small for the actors head? [EDIT: having said that, Dread Pirate Roberts' mask in the Princess Bride only covered half the ear and it looked fine, so I dunno - maybe its not that].

For season 3, bring on Giancarlo Esposito as the retired White Tiger Hector Ayala--
also the Sons of the Tiger hero group-- Abe Brown, Bob Diamond, Lin Sun. these guys would all be upper middle aged now..

They can show that these guys were something of a stealth hero group in the 80s and 90s.

and then his daughter or niece can get the White Tiger Necklace and become the new White Tiger in future TV episode spinoffs of Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Daredevil, etc.

Dread Pirate Rob wears a combination of black hard domino mask with the cloth above it.

I'd definitely love the Sons of the Tigers or White Tiger. After that, I would just play it by ear and see where it goes.
