The weakest of races.

Guy gets turned down by job. It's not that I'm unqualified, it's cause I'm Black. While this does happen, it's not all the time.
In this instance, I believe most people dislike Bonds because he's an a'hole, and has the smell of steroids around him.
And I have experienced racism in my life.

You really don't understand the way racism works. It's not always intentional. And no, not literally every bad thing that happens to a black person is because of racism. But you'd be surprised how much of it is related, either directly or indirectly, to individual or institutional racism.D.Rex said:I agree 100%. Racism is real but it isn't at fault for every bad thing that happens to someone of another race. Too many people use it as an excuse.

That said, Bonds very clearly took roids. He went from averaging something like thirty homers per year to suddenly busting records, and it was way too late in his career. He started out as a Rickey Henderson-style leadoff hitter, but when that didn't work out for him and he wasn't good enough at it, he decided to start popping and suddenly he's about to break Hank Aaron's record.
War Lord said:Except those Martians had more intelligence than those who use steroids.
y2jversion1 said:Wow. That's as intelligent as a statement like "Everyone who smokes weed is nothing but a low-life punk"
Easy with the generalizations there man.

But you'd be surprised how much of it is related, either directly or indirectly, to individual or institutional racism. No you're right. Perhaps I should rephrase. I don't mean that racism doesn't exist or that it doesn't affect people intentionally or accidentally. All im saying is there are some people out there that do blame it for all of their hardships.
Hurricane Katrina for example. Many people just flat out said because the people were black the government didn't care. I think that is wrong. I don't believe that the intent was that we hate black people so were not going to help. I do think that may race and class had played a part in the lack of assitance. I think though that class and income played a larger part. It wasn't just the ghettos of New Orleans that weren't helped it was many small towns and communities in Mississippi and Louisiana too. Many mostly white communities were destroyed and they weren't helped at all either. So I think in that case yeah there may have been some unintentional racism but I think the bigger issue was people's finanincial means (some didn't have the money or means to escape and some just didn't uunderstand what was heading their way) and poor management of the situation not flat out racism.
So yeah racism is a problem and it probably always will be. But to blame it as the root cause of evrything is incorrect. Thats all i meant.
He'll beat Hank Aaron if he has to play till he's seventy. He's a glory-hungry son of a *****.War Lord said:Umm....Babe's.

Make no mistake, that is racism. That is institutional, and probably individual racism. Racism is not just some guy saying "I hate ******s so I'll go burn a cross."D. Part of institutional racism is the fact that blacks are disproportionately poor because of the way the system ****s them over time and time again. Classism becomes racism by virtue of a system that continually keeps blacks in a cycle of poverty and degradation. But yes, the larger issue is classism. If the workers of the world would ever unite and overthrow the capitalism *********s like lazur, racism would not have to be an issue. We are not skin colors or flags, we are human beings.D. And there's where I have to disagree. Racism is, in a very real sense, at the root cause of the vast vast vasy majority of problems in the black community. Racism crops up in surprising ways. For example, the majority of popular black music has been deliberately selected by the major labels to give a public impression of blacks as violent, drugged-out, money-obsessed assclowns. That is racism.D. Rex said:But to blame it as the root cause of evrything is incorrect.
And they weren't using roids (Mac used andro, it's not a roid, read up on it.) Although Sosa was corking, and I always suspected that, you know? It was the same thing with Bonds where he used to hit thirty at most in a season, and suddenly he's up to 66. That was always bull**** to me.amazingfantasy15 said:Remember the race to break the single season record between Sosa/McGwire, everybody loved both because they weren't d*cks like Barry Bonds.

Anybody who thinks the shortened life that often comes from heavy steroid use is lacking brain power.
I'm not sure what problem you're having here.
reggiebar said:There is absolutely NO WAY that the hate for Bonds is racially motivated - period.
People hate Bonds for two reasons - the cat has always been a jerk throughout his career and people believe that he used A LOT of steroids over the later part of his career.
If Ken Griffey Jr., for example, had remained healthy throughout the later part of his career, he would easily be on pace to one day break the home run record. Can anyone honestly tell me that Jr. would have any backlash against him?
Please, Bonds is an arrogant cheater, plain and simple. No one outside of the city of San Francisco likes the man and it has nothing to do with his skin color.

reggiebar said:Sosa used the juice. There is no denying that Sosa didn't juice throughout his career. Look at the cat from early on in his career and then during that home run chase and try and tell me he wasn't juicing. BTW, have you seen him lately? Sosa juiced, no doubt about it.
I bet Big Mac juiced as well. He may have had the andro in his locker, but he juiced throughout his career as well.
y2jversion1 said:I guess my problem is with your uneducated ignorant generalization of something that you obviously don't know much about - except for what you've been fed from the media.
D.Rex said:That makes the most sense out of anything I've heard. You win droogiedroogie2 I've got nothing to counter that with. Good points.
No doubt he juiced. Half of baseball juiced in the 90s.War Lord said:It's like Mcguire was using steroids, because if he was just limited to andro, he wouldn't have needed to cover his butt in his testimony because that knowledge was already public knowledge.
