Is there too much division in America?

Boot Camp was the best time of your life? How long were you in the Marines?
I was joking about Best Times, but it was fun.

I broke my hip when we had 2 more weeks left til Graduation. I had to stay on the Island for another 6 months for re-hab and Discharge. I got out, but went back in 2005. My hip was still F'd up, and couldn't do it. So, I'm pursueing a different Avenue.

I couldn't serve in the Marines because the social conservative wing of this government believes that homosexuals are incapable of conducting themselves in the same respectable manner as heterosexual soldiers.

Yeah, that was frustrating for me... I'd probably still be in, except for that being one of the reasons...

well it's a good thing clinton cleared that up once and for all then. What's worse oppressing someone because of what you believe in or being too much of a coward to stand up for the right thing you believe in?

well you've got the conservatives that make the service oppressive to homosexuals, and I'd say that's mainly because of their own misguided beliefs about their religions...then you've got pass the buck bill deciding "don't ask don't tell" is a solution to the problem which basically left all homosexuals in the service out to dry with no help and I'd say bill does believe homosexuals deserve to not be oppressed if they choose to serve. It's like Biden saying he believes that gays should have the legal privaleges married couples have but he opposes gay marriage. Actually, check that, it's worse.

Actually, Clinton wanted to allow gays to serve openly... however, Sam Nunn and several other conservative senators were responsible for drafting the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, which was the only policy dealing with gays in the military that Congress would have passed.

Hopefully this will change.

I suspect Obama and Biden do support gay marriage, but just don't want to say so in public. I thought the same of Kerry.

Technically nowhere, and I agree....

But the thing is, the more government interferes, to more it gets screwed up.
That is a fundamental axiom we have learned in hundreds of years.

Except for Jmanspice.

His faith in government far outweighs my faith in the literal resurrection.

It's no secret what the Religious Right would seek to do to this country Backdrifter. I will never apologize for believing in tolerance. If you believe that promoting tolerance in our country is a bad thing, I'm afraid that we have nothing further to discuss.

What do you mean by "tolerance" though, Marx? Do you want tolerance, or do you want acceptance? Because, to be honest, the feeling I get from the left is that they want people like me on the right to accept their actions/choices/beliefs when they speak of tolerance--they don't want me to merely tolerate them.

For instance, I believe that people should be married before having sex. My religious beliefs lead me to believe that engaging in sex outside of marriage is sinful. Now, given that there are a lot of people having extramarital sex and wanting to do so, what do I do? I tolerate it. I don't go around beating up people or demanding that we pass laws to criminalize it. I don't go around treating them like second-class citizens. But, I don't change my mind and go along with extramarital sex as OK just because someone wants me to. I have higher principles to answer to.

If people want to call me "intolerant" simply for disagreeing with how they live their lives, then they'll just have to do that. But, what they're really wanting is for me to accept those actions/choices/beliefs, and I'm not going to do that. Tolerance, but not acceptance.

Actually I'm for cutting and consolidating several executive branch agencies and decreasing the amount we spend annually on many programs.

Equality for some, but not for all... don't forget that one.

I think everyone should stop what they're doing and read a little comic strip called...

Love is...

You make it so easy. :yay:

Well, it's not that difficult to grasp, really. It's just about accepting the fact that not everyone is going to agree with everything you think or do, and that there's no point in getting your panties in a wad and taking it personally. I would think such hissy-fitting would go away with childhood.

Sadly, I'm wrong on that assumption. :csad:

Who cares about our personal opinions?

I'm talking about equality for all under the Constitution.

Sure.

When you have religion you believe that you and you're fellow Whatevers are right. The other people are wrong. Everyone who doesn't agree with your particular beliefs are just "children" who need to be shown the way.

Evangelicals are the worst.

:thing: :doom: :thing:

definitley agree with that i know from my own family
