It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's the Superman Costume Thread! - Part 1

Relax, guy. It just seemed like even in full body shots, the suit is lit in such a way that most of his lower abdomen and upper thighs are hidden in shadow. If done intentionally, I think it's a gracious move on their part to somewhat appease the fans who are pro-trunks.
If you've ever done figure drawing, the human body is naturally shadowed in that area when lit on the face from above. :oldrazz:

The only way it wouldn't be if someone shown a light on his junk, and that would just be dumb. :funny:

well I suppose they wouldn’t dare to do a shot from a low angle to see the bullet drops from superman’s eyes.

Wouldn't change the lighting. :cwink:

Well, then let's hope they never light him from the front?:oldrazz:

lol. perhaps they can develop a game called “who can spot superman junk” to test our super vision.

I've had a chance to watch the trailer half a dozen times now and in HD, my conclusion is the suit is great, a brilliant redesign but because of the filters used the blue looks far too dark, even in broad daylight.

Do we know who actually designed the suit? I don't recall seeing anywhere who the costume designer was for MOS.

Agreed. It's my favorite rendition by far. Everything from the texture, cape, shield, and color looks ace to me. The only thing I don't like is the black stripe that runs along the side of his thigh; it's a design cliche that I've never been receptive towards.

Is there any news or do any of you guys have any idea on how Clark will put on his suit in this film? Will it be magically fitted between his body and his casual clothes as presented in previous films, in the cartoons and in the old comics?

Well, I do want a shirt rip.

With the "realistic" approach they're supposedly taking, this better be handled appropriately. Either Clark doesn't wear the suit underneath his pedestrian clothes and has it stored somewhere for a quick change, or he wears some hella loose garments that would fit over all of that. I prefer the former.

Shoot, I don't even like wearing a dress shirt underneath a sweater cuz I feel like it makes me too bulky. I can't imagine trying to hide a whole super suit (with cape! And boots!) underneath.

:O it always look untidy and dirty to me to see body hair popping out of shirt.
It's only a little bit. You kinda do have to look to notice. :oldrazz: It isn't like there's a bearskin rug sticking out. :funny:

Freezeframing some of the closeup scenes of the suit in the trailer, the suit is definitely dark and does somewhat seem to be reflective and somewhat glossy. It could be that the magazine cover is somewhat true in that regard. Not sure how I feel. I love the red though. And the textured boots look great in that closing shot.

the suit is glossy. we saw it last year when they filmed outside.

Yes but I'm sure you'll agree there's a major difference between this:

A muted, lighter blueish hue. I happen to love this. It modernizes the suit to not make it gawdy and standoutish.

Compared to this:

Which from what we can see is how it looks in the trailer: Shiny, glossy, reflective. The complete opposite of the subtle, understated, desaturated look from before.

Superman looks like an oil spill victim there.

I like the way the texture and colour of the blue looks there, but they did a horrible job with that photo in post. The shadows do indeed look like oil smudges.
