nobody who read Superman in the 30's is going to go see a Superman movie today

more whiners coming in just to complain about other people... how surprising :whatever:

Kal-El.9859, i never said they would... where are you getting that from?

Here's a question. Do you guys think that they'll end up changing the suit for MOS 2? I feel almost every single superhero movie of late has done it (probably pressured by the toy department) and most have weaved it into the story pretty naturally.

I think having Superman create another suit while working on his projects in the Fortress of Solitude would be a neat idea. Just something to think about I suppose.

i think it would be a neat idea as well... having Superman alter his suit to his own personal needs, just like Batman... you know, with Nolan on this movie, there's a small chance... he changed the batsuit, after all...

they will change it a little. i think there is even a chance that the trunks will be back.

if they change the cape attachment i will fight them. the word perfect was created for the cape around the neck. it is perfect.

I think there's a big possibility of that too. I'm completely with you on the cape. It's perfect.

I don't think so. At least, not if they follow the same approach as Nolan. People should remember that Nolan only changed the suit between Begins and TDK because the Begins suit was rush job and they did not have the budget to reinvent the wheel. So when it came to the second movie, Nolan finally got the chance to realize the suit how he always wanted it. That is why it stayed the same for TDKR. Given how Snyder has talked about all the effort that has gone into designing the MoS suit, I doubt he would want to redesign it unless he could finally fit the trunks in. I hope they don't. Superman shouldn't change his costume. There is no real practical reason for him to do so. It's not like it is armour that can be improved or normal fabric like Peter Parker's and therefore is liable to be damaged or destroyed.

Well said. I prefer my Superman to be less finicky about fashion than other superheroes. It goes well with his straightforward personality.

Technology is a big part of both the Batman and Spider-Man characters in terms of how they fight crime (Bat-gadgets, mechanical web-shooters). It makes sense that they would upgrade their costumes - particularly Batman, since Spidey's costume changes have always seemed more arbitrary to me. Iron Man is probably the most extreme example of frequent costume changes/upgrades, but it makes perfect sense for his character.

Superman, by contrast, has always relied on two things: his body (i.e. his powers) and his mind. The latter tends to get emphasized less with bad writers, but I think it's an equally important element of the character - at least if you want good stories.

The essence of Superman's heroism is that he has the abilities of a god, but rather than using them for selfish reasons like a certain Kryptonian general and rule humanity, he uses them selflessly for the greater good.

That in itself is impressive enough. But I think Superman's intelligence is the key thing story-wise that makes him more than just a physical marvel who got lucky due to an accident of birth. It shows that he's not a purely physical character, as many detractors argue, but a mental one. That makes for more interesting ways to watch him defeat the villains.

I loved that scene when he outsmarted Zod at the end of Superman II. It's the antithesis of a story like The Death of Superman, which involves Superman and Doomsday punching each other harder and harder for several issues until they PUNCH REALLY, REALLY HARD.

Sorry, I'm going off on a tangent. The point is, when it comes to Superman (putting aside the whole secret identity thing), what you see is what you get, and I like that idea being reflected in his costume. It reflects the unchanging nature of Clark's principles, which are what really make him the hero he is.

i also like that the cape is not clean. its not dirty. its the fabric that looks like some special velvet. it breaks it down without a micro pattern.

Exactly. Superman does not upgrade his suit.

I expect if the filmmakers decide to for the potential sequel, they'll be differences as negligible as those between Raimi's Spidey 1 and 2.

While both of you present good points I have a feeling the toy side of things will end up being the true deciding factor.

If the suit is an heirloom from his father, I'd see him keeping it. Lots of value there. And the suit is perfect already from my point of view. I don't want the trunks coming back.

Exactly....if he changes his suit that will be like spitting on and turning his back on his Kryptonian heritage. I don't wanna see that

Yes..and, even if he would like to change it..how could he? He's planet,it's, a bit..like dust :yay:

He could use earth material...or the Fortress could make it for him
Earth materials..mh..I don't like that..If the fortress could do that, well ok..But I like the suit just the way it is..that is perfect :yay:

I love it myself and do not wish or want to see any changes

Kal-El is smart enough to replicate the material his suit is made out of if he truly wanted. He could easily do that in the Fortress of Solitude.

if the suit would be different they wouldnt explain it IMO. no questions asked. and i dont think they would make drastic changes.

I've no doubt there will be small changes, as craigdbfan says most costumes get minor upgrades and revisions in sequels, but in terms of the trunks [seeing that they seem to be the one big topic people are argueing about on here] what would be the explanation for their addition to the costume [Super Kal, I'm mainly looking at you], given that they serve no purpose other than being purely aesthetic the only explanation would be a stylistic choice on the part of Supes.

Can anyone actually imagine Cavill saying the line ''yeah, well, I felt the suit needed that little extra something and trunks are like so in this year........''?

Nolan syndrom. not everything has to be explained. i was born in a time when things were there because they looked cool.

If any suit changes take place, I expect them to be a la SM1->SM2->SM3. No explanation, because they'll be subtle enough to not even count as changes in-universe.
