J. J. Abrams to write and direct Star Wars: Episode IX

Hmm strange how that didn't stop the first episodes of Rebels from pulling in Clone Wars numbers...almost like the audience followed over to XD then stopped watching when they realized the show wasn't as good.

It is almost as if someone doesn't know the episodes are available on Disney XD online, ondemand and how, you know, the show debuted on the Disney Channel.

On October 2, 2014, Disney announced that it had renewed Star Wars Rebels for a second season. The series debuted the next day on the Disney Channel with the TV movie Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion. Two final TV spots were released prior to the debut of regular episodes on Disney XD on October 13.

For Disney XD, it seems Rebels has been pretty successful:

The first episode aired on XD had over a million viewers. Now the average is under half of that, even if you include other methods of watching it. It's not the like XD is unable to broadcast to a Clone Wars size audience...it just failed to hold on to the audience from Clone Wars that clearly came to give it a chance.

Thanks for the info

Yes. The First two episodes of TCW aired on the first night and had 4 and 5 million respectively. And then the show fell between 2.7m-3.0m for the first two seasons and continued to fall with each season. Season 4 and 5 averaged under 2m. Dropping from the premiere is natural.

Rebels airing in less homes, on a channel which's highest ratings ever was I believe 2.3m for the Gravity Falls finale. This is during the time of rapid cord cutting, online watching and pirating.

I don't think it is as popular as TCW, but then again TCW was he only canon Star Wars at that time. At a time we thought there would be no more movies. Rebels has done more then just fine, and has left its mark. It is rather popular.
