I think the movie is still memorable

What a great shot!

^ what movie is that gif from?

I kid, I kid.

No seriously.

Avatar isn't any less original than about 99% of the CBMs people gush over.

It's only the internet that constantly states how Avatar has been forgotten, which is so delusional it's borderline hilarious. :funny:

The same internet that was sure Avatar would also fail before it's release. I remember on this very same forum before release, users were stating definitely that Avatar would fail because NOBODY was talking about it. Then it came out and made almost three billion dollars and the detractors shut up.

Now the goal post has been moved to, yeah, it became the biggest film of all time and EVERYONE did see it multiple times but NOW it's been forgotten. LOL

It's okay to hate the film. That's an opinion one is more than entitled to but like it or lump it, it's the biggest movie of all time, it's the highest selling blu-ray of all time, it was critically acclaimed and nominated for multiple Oscars.

Those are the facts. :)

well I will be standing in line for Avatar 2 opening day. So as far as I am concerned It is memorable enough for me to do that. :D

My only disappointment is that Battle Angel has taken a backseat because of the success of Avatar. I want Battle Angel! It has the potential to be the ultimate Cameron film.

But yeah, I'll be in line opening day for whatever Jim Cameron does, no question. :)

I would love to see Battle Angel too! Maybe we'll get to see it after the Avatar movies. If Cameron follows in the footsteps of Clint Eastwood and directs movies until he is 84, James Cameron would have 24 years to finish the Avatar films and Battle Angel. :woot:

I'm pretty sure Disney knows Fox is aiming for Avatar 2 out by that date. They have a theme park deal in place, they're not going to anger the ones holding the purse strings.

If Cameron ends up postponing the film for even more years, 2020 could be good for him, as it would come the year right after Episode IX and Infinity War Part II. For me what's disapointing with James Cameron is that he's losing the opportunity of making more movies, i mean, i know he's helping push technology in film forward, but i wish he to have seen some more films from him during the 2000s period, and even in the present.

He also has some other interesting projects planned, so i hope he doesn't spend half as many years making them as he seems to be doing for the Avatar films.

I was hoping this would be out next year so we could have our third James Cameron sequel that comes out 7 years after the original. :oldrazz:

Anyone have the extended edition of Avatar on blu-ray?

I only have it on DVD, i was waiting for some sort of Ultimate edition for Blu-ray that would include the Extended version in 3D, but aparently that's not gonna happen, as they stated the 3D Blu-Ray release would be the final Home media release for the film.

I loved Avatar when I first saw it. I like it less now but it's still a good movie.
Obviously it had detractors since it's release but idk to me it just seems like the cool thing to do to not like Avatar in the nerd/fanboy community

However I do think that the movie is largely forgotten and, despite it's large box office returns, isn't really what I consider a pop culture staple. In my mind something that is a pop culture staple is something that is parodied, referenced a lot, toys still very popular etc. OR at the very least it is talked about a lot.
I dont see any of that with Avatar except in reference to 3D filmmaking.

True

A movie that's largely forgotten is something that was a cult hit, had a limited audience or failed to reach any type of success on a commercial or critical level. Titanic went through the same thing. The detractors constantly tried to downplay it's success. Again, it's okay to hate the film but like it or not, it's the biggest movie of all time. I know that really bothers people (just like it bothered people when Titanic was at the top) but Avatar earned it's success.

Everytime this thread gets bumped, someone who hates the film usually wanders in to remind everyone how Avatar has been "forgotten". Like clockwork, everytime. :D

I don't get haters at all.

A lot of the non CBM blockbusters have activist haters here and elsewhere, it's bizarre.

It surprises me that even with 5 years of digital advances WETA's work with the the Hobbit movies just isn't up to par with the work in Avatar.
What gives.

I don't think the big issue with the film was the story. It's been told a thousand times, but lots of great films are. Problem is, I don't feel there are characters in it to latch onto and our protagonist is played by a plank of wood with a face drawn on him that makes Liam Hemsworth look charismatic. If memory serves, there were rumours of one of the three films coming being with different characters and that is one I could be interested in. But direct sequels following the same character, I have no interest in.

Peter Jackson not giving them enough time and changing things at the last minute?

I get them.

They hate something, so it bothers them when that something succeeds on a massive worldwide scale like this did. The general consensus contradicts they're own personnel opinions, so that causes resentment.

Incredibly petty nonsense.
