James Cameron's Sequel to "AVATAR" - Part 1

Avatar may not have much of a following on the net, and a lot of haters, but there's still a vast public that loves it and is ready for more. As long as he doesn't take much more, in least a Billion is a lock.

But yeah, i'm not sure he should be planning to do so much at once.

SF doesn't seem like its an overcrowded cinematic genre either.

Lightstorm Entertainment, 20th Century Fox and Hewlett-Packard Pact For Next-Generation Digital Experience

20th Century Fox, Lightstorm Entertainment and Hewlett-Packard have pacted in a five-year agreement to create the next-generation digital experience for the three sequels of the box office giant, Avatar. As part of the agreement, which extends through the release of the final film in the epic four-part saga in 2019, they will create an entire digital world of Avatar off-screen designed to keep the franchise alive before the sequels and as a thread between each one.

Apparently, this will be another first of its kind from filmmaker James Cameron who has been pushing the envelope for years with innovations in technology and film. The technology that will implemented by HP for the director’s Lightstorm Entertainment is said to be “unprecedented.” Not surprising.
“The goal is to create a new paradigm for fan interaction in the digital space. Our demographics are so broad that people will seek different experiences, and we want to provide them with that. It will not be the traditional click and point experience,” Avatar producer and COO, Lightstorm Entertainment’s Jon Landau told Deadline. “The plan is to have fans really engage with our world and its themes and, if they want, become part of the story. They more they interact, the more they will get a more tailored entertainment experience.”

The interactive technology is only part of the equation.
HP will provide expertise in four key areas, including cloud management, security, data capture and personalizing the experience for movie fans in a way that they say will “bridge the physical and digital worlds.”
Avatar broke many box office records when it came out in 2009 and ended up with $2.8B at the worldwide box office. That translates to more than 190 million tickets sold, according to Fox. The three sequels in development have planned release dates of December of 2017, 2018 and 2019.

I will be 80 years old by the time Avatar 4 finally is released.

84 to be exact.

With "news" like this I'm feeling there will be more delays... ;)

Fox Sticking With "Avatar" 2017 Release

By Garth Franklin Friday June 12th 2015 11:48AM
For those keen to revisit Pandora, you'll have to wait just a little longer.
Speaking yesterday at the Gabelli & Company's Movie & Entertainment Conference in New York City, 20th Century Fox chairman-CEO Jim Gianopulos confirmed that the three "Avatar" sequels are now slated for Christmas Day releases in 2017, 2018 and 2019. Why the delay? "Jim Cameron has his own pace."
The sequels will be shot simultaneously and Gianopulos talked about visiting Cameron at his offices in New Zealand two months ago: "It's a room…which is covered floor to ceiling with images, characters, worlds, settings. It's the most amazing, breathtaking thing you've ever seen. His challenge is to put all of that in a movie.”
As for where the project now stands: "In the first movie he created technology that was so far ahead of its time. Of course now he's gone past that…all the pieces are in place. The story is being finalized.”

He better stick with those dates, though the final Avatar will end up having to compete directly with Avengers Infinity War 2, Justice League part 2 and Star Wars Episode IX. That means 2019 will see the final chapters of 4 major film franchises. If the creators of that show have their way, then Game of Thrones will end at that time too.

Final chapters? I don't think anyone have announced that 2019 will see the release of the final Avengers, Star Wars, Justice League and Avatar film.

He means the end of the currently announced line-up. SW completes the Trilogy of Trilogies, with surely more to come. IW completes the first Marvel Mega-Phase, with surely more to come. JL completes the first part of the DCCU, with surely more to come.

The only franchise we can't guess at yet is this one.

Sure, but they're the ends of major storylines, and will be marketed that way, some will probably even think they are the final installments in their franchises. In a way, it will mark the end of some of the 2010s biggest film storylines, just like Deathly Hollows 2 and Pirates of the caribbean 3 were finales but still are getting more films in their franchises.

there will be so many years between the first movie and the second movie that they will need to in a way reintroduce the characters and again explain the world. that will take at least 15-25 minutes. there is no way that the studio will let them have 3 movies and expect that everyone remembers everything from Pandora from 2009.

i hope everyone is preparing themselves that every movie will end like a tv episode. the story will not end. they will try to force us into the theater for the next movie to get the ending. imagine every sequel to end like Hobbit 2.

that the movies would not be connected in a big story was maybe the plan in 2010. things changed a lot. you have franchises where the last third movie is split into 2 parts. The Avatar franchise will be whats popular right now. and that means that movies will end like Hobbit 2 and matrix 2.

IMO

He will be missed.

I still say that the score for first film is pretty great.

Damn. Enjoy the Afterlife James Horner, your music's beautiful and evocative. My fav movie scores from him are Rocketeer, Aliens, and Willow. What are yours?

What can I say about James Horner. The man was love! The music he wrote would go strait to my heart. From his score to Field of Dreams, when the director of the film Phil Alden Robinson was sitting in a screening of the film he heard a woman lean over to the man she was sitting next to and said the music alone deserved a Grammy. When the movie was first screened to Mr. Horner, at the end of the movie he ran out of the theater and into the lobby. The director ran after him worried and found him crying. Horner was so touched he was given the opportunity to score such an amazing movie that he had to run out of the theater crying.

For me his music touched me so. His music had an emotional sensitivity, in interviews he seamed to be a sensitive soul too. I adore his Cocoon score, and his music from Willow, and his amazing emotional score for The Land Before Time, and his score for Glory. His music touched the soul. His score for the Wrath of Khan is exhilarating, Krull was scored in the same vein, which is very much a companion piece to Khan. Thank you Mr. Horner for your music that came from your soul and touched mine and I'm sure millions of others too and ones to come!!

RIP James Horner. Loved his music, especially Glory and Star Trek II.

RIP James Horner. Wasnt a great fan of his Avatar score TBH but his Aliens and Wrath of Khan scores are true, bonafide classics in my mind.

They may very well be the final installment featuring actors that have been associated with Avengers, I mean after Avengers Infinity Wars finale, I don't see RDJ, Chris Evans, Scarlett, Samuel Jackson and Ruffalo continuing.

And... terrible news about James Horner, he was really talented, RIP.

Man, so sad to hear about James Horner. RIP, good sir :csad:. Listening to the Avatar score today, which i love.
