Rogue One James Earl Jones is Darth Vader in Rogue One

That was the Vader that I wanted to see in the damn prequels, that was was one of the TOP 5 scenes in Star Wars movies for me, by far.

I scream at the theater when the lightsaber ignated in the dark, absolutely perfect

Our crowd went berserk at that.

He doesn’t have a big part, and I didn’t expect him to, but damn...that is the Darth Vader that used to terrify me when I saw the movies in the theater as a kid.

Vader in his last scene in this film is the Vader we all wanted in Revenge of the Sith.

I just got back. Really enjoyed it.

That final scene with Vader.....wow....

Its exactly what I wanted to see in ROTS when Anakin and the clones went to the Temple to kill the Jedi. Imagine seeing an uninjured Anakin pre-suit going through the Temple decimating Jedi left and right the way Vader[blackout] went through that Rebel ship[/blackout]. Thats what should have happened in ROTS.

Ill never understand why Lucas thought that cutting away just as Anakin and the Clones walked into the Temple and not showing Anakin's attack on the Jedi Temple was a sensible idea.

We didn't even get to see him kill those kids.

This film made me remember how upset I was that we never got to see Vader become seduced by the dark side like Obi-Wan said in Episode IV. A rampage in the Jedi temple like Marvolo could have highlighted that exceptionally well.

Ugh, wasted potential. But it was sweet to finally see something great 11 years later.

SWEET MOTHER OF….. That ending with VADER!!!! DAMN YOU LUCAS this what should've happened in EPISODE III.

DARTH VADER kicking ass and not holding back.

[blackout]I screamed for joy seeing Vader's castle on Mustafar let alone his first scene EPIC James Earl Jones moment.[/blackout]

Nah Im happy he didnt show that. The clones shooting that kid was more than enough of that. Besides Im sure the MPAA wpuld have raised a stink if Lucas would have shown Anakin cutting kids into pieces and stabbing them.

My memory of the scene is kinda fuzzy, but
did Vader stop a blaster bolt in mid flight, then flick it back towards the shooter?

I thought Vader's voice was fine, except his final line [BLACKOUT]before he choked Krennic. The line after that sounded fine though[/BLACKOUT]. I felt that line sounded a bit off for some reason.

Yep.

It looked like he captured it, closed his hand around it and then flung it back towards another rebel.

It gives a new layer to his scene in ESB when Han shot at him. Up until now I always assumed those bolts were hitting Vader's mechanical hand and were just damaging his mechanical hand which was causing the sparks. But now we know that he was stopping them and instead of deflecting them into Han or the floor or wall he absorbed them or broke them down. He could have flung them back and killed Han right there and then if he wanted to. Han came insanely close to death right then because his instincts told him to draw his gun and shoot Vader without thinking.

That corridor scene was amazing. Great brief buildup of anticipation/tension before the saber is ignited. It's the most powerful that Vader has ever struck me.

Impressive. Most impressive.

Thats how Sith Lords are supposed to be portrayed when their rage is up and really flowing in combat. The books and comics have done good jobs at showing it with Vader and other Sith Lords. Its crazy that it took over 39 years for the films to really show it.

Also takes Kylo Ren down a peg since we saw him stop that bolt and it was the first time we saw something like that. Seeing Vader do it just makes Kylo come off even more as nerdy wannabe.

I hope we see more Vader in upcoming movies. It would be a wasted opportunity not to use him.

Just a quick question:

Were Vader's scenes (and especially his last scene) part of the re-shoots and not initially in the film?

Also, there is no chance that his scenes get removed or altered on the Blu-Ray version or even an Extended Cut, right?

I just really want to re-watch his scenes over and over again once the movie hits Blu-Ray, that's why I am asking...

I'd bet a Vader film comes down the pipeline sooner or later. Disney has their uncharted territory with the sequels, but they know what they paid for when they bought the property.

Same with Kylo trying to force his way into people's minds, since we know Maul could do it as well.

I hope it comes soon because it would be awesome to have James Earl Jones in it. He is 85.

Well as I said in the "Moff" thread, I feel like Disney may move towards some digital characters in the future if they want to put movies in gaps left by the different trilogies. With vocoloid and other technologies out there, I imagine they'll eventually go looking for a sound-alike or synthesize a voice for future projects. I'm sure they'll keep JEJ around until then, out of respect, but I figure it's coming someday.

I saw the movie again last night and that last scene still gave me chills.

It's a testament to Gareth Edward's directing chops that he can make me feel anxious about the Rebels securing the plans, even though I know they're going to succeed. The utter desperation of the guys stuck in that room with Vader... awesome.
