Rogue One James Earl Jones is Darth Vader in Rogue One

I was all grins the entire time he was on-screen.

I don't watch Rebels, but I did see clips online and was disappointed in how "off" Jones sounded as Vader. Don't know what they changed in Rogue One, but it worked for me. I was absolutely taken back to the OT days, it was like there was no time gap at all.

I think people would be as forgiving as Vader is. Cut Jones some slack.

Shame then. We all die. No harm in being prepared. It's foolish for all parties involved to act like the man is going to live forever. Even I have life insurance. I didn't get all offended when it was suggested I prepare for the inevitable. If I was famous for the voice of a famous character and the character might appear in films after my death I'd want to do my part and insure the studio had as much material to work with as possible. But I get how funny people are about this sort of thing so you're probably right that no one at Disney has the spine to ask JEJ to do it.

And they shouldn't do it because he might be dead soon nor should they say such a thing to him. They should do it because he will die one day like everyone does and being prepared for that inevitable thing whenever it does come is prudent and pragmatic.

Well you'll be pleased to know that Lucas actually had some audio samples from JEJ that he recorded during the prequel days. As far as I'm aware they've been unused.

Look. I love James Earl Jones and what he's done with this character. I am overjoyed that he's been more than gracious enough to come back and do as much as he has with this character between Rebels and Rogue One.

At the same time, if Vader were to ever be a major character again and Jones were not available to play him for whatever reason, other people could voice him instead. I'm sorry but it's not sacrilegious to say that. Walt Disney was the original cartoon voice actor. He WAS Mickey Mouse. He created the voice for Mickey Mouse and set that standard. But other people eventually took over for him.

Other people have voiced Vader too for official Star Wars material and done a good job. I think if it ever happened, they'd be able to figure it out. Just as they got new people to voice certain characters in Rogue One.

Just like someone else at some point is going to play Tony Stark as well.

Yeah it's already happening with Han Solo too. These are legacy characters now. I'm very happy and grateful we got more James Earl Jones again as Vader regardless. But he won't be playing the character forever if Disney wants to keep using Vader.

I thought Vader's final scene made him look incredibly stupid and incompetent instead of badass and scary. The one thing he needed to do was get the plans, and instead he wastes time taking out a bunch of random nobodies. He was too busy looking cool and wrecking continuity (if he could fight like this, then why didn't he during his duel with Obi-Wan, which is literally only a couple of days/weeks later).

Honestly, I think the biggest harm this film did was with the returning characters. Vader, Tarkin, Organa, Mon Mothma, all of them had no real reason to be in this movie, and their appearance didn't add anything to their legacies.

It was cool seeing Vader's castle, and nice to finally see him in a real fight, but it would've been much better in a story that actually served the character and added to his mythos.

Wow, Elayis, so far you've been the opposite of a lot of folks here. I know you didn't like it and that's fine but to say that Mon's role didn't matter?

Mon never had a significant role IN THE MOVIES, especially to the causal fan. Here, they're finally showing that she is a very high ranking member of the Alliance, and not just the random lady who cries over Bothans. I'm glad she's there along with Space Jimmy Smits.

Vader in this movie did something Vader in the Prequels, nor Originals could ever do.

He scared the hell out of me.

I suppose I shouldn't have included Mon Mothma in that group. Along with the new characters, she was one of the few that scraped through this film relatively unscathed. It just felt like her role in this didn't go anywhere, didn't add up to anything meaningful. But then, she was always a non-character (even in the RotS deleted scenes), so I don't know what I was expecting. Forget I mentioned her.

I take no pleasure in disliking the movie, though. When it was first announced, I had every expectation that I would actually enjoy it more than TFA, seeing as I'm no fan of JJ Abrams and had previously enjoyed Edwards' films (I thought Monsters was very good, Godzilla less so).

Even a couple of days ago, I didn't think TFA would be too hard to top, and reading over the reviews I found myself dismissing the negative ones. I wouldn't have payed for an IMAX ticket (which are $18 where I live) if I figured I'd end up not enjoying it. I'm just bummed right now.

This feels more like a real movie over TFA.
TFA was like do you remember this? Do you remember this?
The easter eggs in this one were more natural

It was awesome seeing Vader's castle, but I wonder about that bacta tank of his. Is that something he needs on a regular basis or has he just returned from some sort of battle? :jedi

The Vader scene at the end was what I dreamed of seeing in Revenge of the Sith all those years ago.

That last scene with Vader was bada**. I loved it. I loved the idea of Vader as almost a supernatural entity that the rebels where helpless against.

I also loved Vader's castle which really gave me a Mordor Lord of the Rings vibe:cwink:. Real erie and creepy.

The style of the Castle reminded me of the Sith Temple on Malachor we seen in Rebels. All those glowing red lines in black onyx.

Yeah, obvious troll as obvious as all heck, from that 1/10 rating to this kind of childishness. Ignored, carry on, too old for this nonsense.

Seriously? James Earl Jones still sounds like Vader even more so now.

I think one of my favourite things about the Vader slaughter scene is this in how they made him badass, but kept it largely consistent with his portrayal in the OT. I think part of it is they kept the largely one-handed lightsaber style from when he was toying with Luke. It just made his rampage look so effortless and once again proved that the ridiculous acrobatics and choreography from the prequels was completely unnecessary. I also think that is something the Ahsoka duel from Rebels got wrong (as much as I love that episode). Vader looked like he was struggling too much there. In Rogue One, he looked brutal and efficient.

His voice didn't sound too good but he was a badass all the same. But was his outfit different? I didn't see the chain he had in the original

I think the chain was there, but covered behind the helmet. The OT chain is small and usually on the upper part of his neck.

I never realised why they decided to put such a large chain on him in the ending of ROTS.

James Earl Jones' voice was hit and miss. There were lines where it was perfect, and others where it sounded like an impersonator. I just chalk it up to his age.

I thought so as well. Well not the hit and miss thing really, but it didn't sound like James Earl Jones at times.
