Guardians of the Galaxy James Gunn back to direct

This was probably the plan all along. And when they saw another studio immediately pick him up it probably made it all the more easier to reinstate him.
This works out for the best in the grand scheme imo. I felt DS and BP sequels along with various new properties needed prioritization over Guardians 3 even tho Gunn's already has a working script. But I'm glad he's back.

I gotta think the idea of WB having Gunn as their new golden goose was too much for Disney to bare ,in addition to Feige working behind the scenes , an unhappy cast, and the prospect of handing the new car to a director who might wreck it.

I think they waited so long as an attempt at a face saving mechanism in front of the media, though I really don't see it working that way with fanboys at least.

I'm surprised though, it goes to show that you can never say never in Hollywood. There was a theory that Disney was engaging a kabuki theater over Gunn and that they would eventually rehire him. It sounded nuts at the time but maybe there was more truth to it than it seemed a year ago.

So what are the chances of Rocket Raccoon singing a song alongside Lady Gaga in this?

Although it should really have been in the last film when we found out Quill's parentage. It could've been A StarLord is Born.

:funny:

A Raccoon Is Born?

I never thought it was a good idea to fire him in the first place, so I guess this is a good thing. Hopefully he can still make the movie the way he wants, and isn’t on a short leash.

Nah, just his social media will be on a short leash, lol
I'm surprised Disney even lets their actors have twitter at this point

So basically, instead of ending his career, the trolls got him attached to two major superhero properties instead of just one.

Between this and Captain Marvel being on pace to make a billion dollars, this hasn’t been a good week to be an alt right troll.

I find it funny how many pages and months everyone discussed exhaustively this whole situation. Meanwhile, Disney, Feige, and Gunn have known since last year he was coming back.

Just shows how much we waste in things that ultimately don’t matter.

Agreed. I think GotG3 may even be the introduction of the Silver Surfer potentially. I think the Surfer is going to be one of the first FOX guys, given Adam McKay's very publicly noted interest.

The fact that they're not filming currently might end up being a blessing in disguise. I think Gunn and Feige have both said how much they're fans of the character, so I wouldn't be shocked

God yes. Give me Silver Surfer. Although as a Surfer fan it bugs me a little that we'd be getting him after Thanos (likely) dies, I don't care. I want my to see that shiny naked guy on a surfboard in a movie that doesn't suck.

There were some weirdos in here acting pretty alt righty when this went down...*sips tea*

So... when is this coming out now then? It says he is still doing Suicide Squad. So 2022? 2023? I assume May.

Wouldn't introducing the Silver Surfer imply Galactus more than anything?

That's probably only a matter of time, in one way or another. It's one of the truly great comics stories.

I'm not sure when this is coming out since Suicide Squad 2 is also going to have to release but I really hope that we can see Nova, Nikki Gold or Martyr.

And if Nikki is present, then Fire by Jimi Hendrix needs to be part of the soundtrack. And Symptom of the Universe by Black Sabbath and Space Oddity by David Bowie should also both appear since I can't believe that neither of them were in the first two.

I always said it was Disney's choice. It really does seem that they decided to wait until the Fox deal was done to bring him back. Explains Horn and Iger's more aggressive talking about it. To make sure that got over the line, while apparently always planning to bring him back. Quick, someone discuss this on Fox News. So Trump knows. :o

A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.

(I can't believe there were 4 pages of responses and I was the first one to use that meme)

I wonder if they didn't expect Gunn to be hired by Warner Bros for The Suicide Squad but neither studios wanted to force him to choose so I imagine they compromised.

IF the way the story is being reported is true, they knew they were hiring him back. Considering when they hired him back, that makes sense. Which means I guess they simply didn't stand in his way of another pay check considering what happened.
