The Amazing Spider-Man Jamie Foxx IS Electro

This movie better be called Amazing Spider-Man 2: Electric Boogaloo. :awesome:

The Lizard was AWESOME. Next to Doc Oc, it was the best villain on screen spidey has had yet.

I think Doc Ock was the best, Green Goblin second, and Lizard third. Venom, New Goblin, and Sandman were poor excuses for villains. All three had potential and were squandered. I still blame studio intrusiveness for why "Spider-Man 3" failed, but Sam Raimi could've maybe tried to not hone it in and camp it up.

As for Electro, whether Jamie Foxx is cast or not, I hope we don't get some screenwriter's ill-attempt to give Electro some sort of sympathetic backstory ala what they did with Sandman. Make him either a petty thug who Norman scoops up off the streets and makes him a human Guinea pig to get rid of Spider-Man/figure out who is the man behind the mask or he's simply a lab accident. Heck, you could even just go the route where Electro already has this suped-up suit he uses during bank heists, and proves to be a formidable foe for Spider-Man, almost killing him.

I wouldn't say that I have a problem with changing the race of a character(in movies)... an its always great to see movies add a little diversity... but it almost seems like a waste to use someone of a different ethnicity to play a white character, instead of having them play a character of there own race from the comics

just saying, we don't really see enough ethnic comic characters (heroes/or villains) in films
(I mean, I know we've seen, Blade, Storm, Robbie Robetson, Rhodey, Darwin...) but, ummm I don't really know where I was going with this
I agree with this. I'm still wrapping my head around the concept of Jamie as Electro. I might comment more as things digest and circulate up in the old (young) noggin. And if it's of any sort of relevance to any of this discussion, I'm black. So yeah.

Imo, the only thing that really failed when it came to New Goblin was the name, the appearance and the amnesia. The whole revenge angle was fine and fit the Goblin motif with going for Peter's "heart".

I'd rank the villains so far;

1. Doc Ock
2. Green Goblin
3. Lizard
4. New Goblin
5. Venom
6. Sandman

Not sure how I feel about this. I think Foxx is a terrific actor, but he just doesn't feel the part. Hopefully I'm proven wrong.

Why is Sandman placed so low and why is New Goblin so high?

Because Sandman was a dull character. Half of his screen time was spent as a flying sand storm or a giant sand monster. His plot device of being Uncle Ben's killer was awful. The team up with Venom was ridiculous.

New Goblin was flawed but executed a lot better than Sandman was. James Franco acted Church off the screen.

Switch Lizard and New Goblin around as well as Venom and Sandman around and that would be my ranking. Venom gets last place mostly because of the little time he had, imo, but he was definitely a menacing villain for the little time he did have.

Why is Sandman placed so low and why is New Goblin so high?

While both villains had their moments of forgiveness, Spidey just let Sandman fly away which is something uncalled for. Flint Marko specifically said his goal is his daughter now and that means he could and possibly will steal money once more thus Flint Marko is still a criminal. It's justifiable to have Sandman be last when his whole storyline was one giant mess.

I swear........

It's just not acceptable to NOT like this stupid idea.

The character of Max Dillion is neither here nor there and imho doesn't matter one jot whether he is black or white. Someone like Kraven however has to be a white guy as his ethnicity is Russian.

You do know there are "black Russians", don't you??

I guess any character can be whatever theses days.....even classic characters like Perry White.

I thought Foxx would have been Robbie Robertson at the Bugle.

It's like when fans were up in arms when SSM made one of the Enforcers the Shcoker and Greg Wiseman said beyond the name of Shocker (Herman Schultz,I had to Google it) did it really matter? And for me Electro is the same, virtually no backstory so who cares whether he is black or white as it's not an essential part of his character. You could make Electro FEMALE and it wouldn't bother me as long as the peformance is good.

As for ranking the Spider-Man movie villians, for me it a tough one.
On the one hand Defoe's performance was awesome, 'misery, misery, misery, that's what you've chosen...' but Goblin looked TERRIBLE. On the hand you have Doc Ock who looked FANTASTIC and gave a really good performance but didn't carry the menace of GG.
I call the two two villians a tie. After that there is a big drop and then next on the list is Lizard and then the villians of SM3 at the bottom of the barrel as to me they carried next to no sense of threat or danger.

Tied
1. Doc Ock.
2. Green Goblin.
.

.
3. Lizard.

4. GG2.
5. Sandman.
6. Venom.

Yes, and they leave me tipsy if I have too many.

Any Award winning actor playing a powered up 2 dimensional thug with limited vision like electro is a blessing.

1- Doc Ock (for obvious reasons)
2- Lizard (mentally and physically challenged Peter)
3- Goblin (mostly for the awful Power Ranger suit)
4- New Goblin (the snowboard/goggles sucked)
5- Sandman (very little background, poor use of Flint as Uncle Ben's killer)
6- Venom (the way the symbiotic came to earth, Topher Grace, the philosoraptor screeching, 5 minutes of screen time, his death)

Electro doesn't need to do much to enter the top 3. As long as his costume isn't ridiculous and he isn't over the top I don't see any reason why he can't top the Goblin's performance.

I'm not sure if this has been discussed, but does anybody think that the sequel will loosely follow the second arc of USM where Peter Parker makes a connection between Uncle Ben's murderer and the Kingpin, and in the middle of this investigation runs into Electro, one of Kingpin's thugs ???

I don't think they'll add Kingpin into the movie, but they might somehow connect Uncle Ben's killer with Electro. NOT that they are the same person, but they are or used to be colleagues in crime. I wouldnt be surprised if this was the case.

The connection with Kingpin would have worked very well in the first movie, sadly they didnt go that way

For me
1.Green Goblin
2.Doc Ock
3.Lizard
4.Junior Goblin
5.Sandman and Venom

I don't think Sony really gives a **** about Electro's skin color. I think they're just going for whatever actor gives the best performance of the character because according to Latino Review, Damien Lewis was up for the role at one point...and he's not black...

I didn't like TASM and neither Foxx or Electro helps to make me a little curious about the sequel.
