Jason Statham to take on Meg

WB will move it without a doubt. Deliberating choosing to release this on that same weekend is box office cannibalism for both films. My question is why even move it there in the first place?

I think if this is handled right, again emphasis on right, it could be WBs Jurassic Shark franchise.

I think the writer of this endeavor will make this movie sink or swim [no pun intended]

Jurassic Shark? No. A glorious trainwreck? Maybe :D

C'mon Peyton, it's going to have Jason Statham as a scientist :D .

Yes indeed it does have Jason.

But seeing 95% of his movies are action he's never been given the green light to show his acting chops.

Many people said that about Stallone who got nominated twice for Rocky & can act if given the right vehicle.

Lets not pass judgement just yet.

Look Peyton, I also like the Stath. But this ain't gonna be WB's own equivalent to Jurassic Park.

The premise is more like Deep Blue Sea. Not necessarily bad thing. Deep Blue Sea has some appeal and some cult status. It's a guilty pleasure for many. This could be that too.

Again, I think it could be more then a guilty pleasure if its handled by the right writer & director.
It could turn out to be a Deep Blue Sea clone or shock us all with its value.

I emphasize the writer & director in this as extremely important.

It was a good step in getting rid of Eli Roth.

Did Sam Neil open Jurassic Park? Statham is an added value element now thanks to Fast & Furious and Spy rather than some kind of box office draw.

Im not crazy about Turtletaub either.
However, I think better than the previous choice of Eli Roth.
Something tells me this could be in the wheelhouse of Robert Zemeckis or Frank Darabont . I dont know why.

I actually really like the National Treasure films.

I got to be honest, I've waited years for this film to happen. I once read an earlier draft of the script. It's not a good script and it's totally dumb, so hopefully it got re-written.

But I've kind of always wanted to just see the imagery of a giant like prehistoric great white shark rendered on the big screen in a big budget. I think it could be a fun spectacle at the very least to see that shot realized of a giant shark breaking through a cresting wave and just gobbling a surfer whole.

The script I remember reading had a bunch of dumb characters making a lot of dumb decisions. I think they couldn't quite figure out if they wanted Jonas Taylor to kill the beast or preserve it because he's a conservationist or some such. And then there's a whole subplot with Japanese whalers and they have a bunch of cheesy dialogue.

I just want to see that moment of an awesome looking Megalodon jumping out of the wave and eating Kelly Slater.

I want to see if that image can be realized on the big screen and look really cool and badass. Not this cheapo Sharknado BS.

If it goes Sharknado route just put it on Syfy and be done with it.
Anything less than a bad ass effort on effects is a complete waste of our time & theirs.

i really This Meg is a Lone Survivor From The Prahistoric and not from the DNA Facility

I do believe , in the novel, that the shark is a lone survivor from the prehistoric age and just now has been discovered. If they re write that it really needs to go straight to Syfy.

He's sorta like Shawn Levy; competent and inoffensive. And with Levy he lucked out with Real Steele.

Jon is also better than McG and Brett Ratner so that's something.

Not quite. The books (the series is four or five sequels deep now) had them as a small population of remaining prehistoric Megaladons that survived in the Marianas Trench. The sequels widen the story with other prehistoric animals and sometimes get weird.

I hope the movie isn't terrible. Steve Alten has waited a long time for this to become a movie.

I just want this shark to be on screen and to be nightmare fuel. I mean can you imagine? A shark attack is primal and scary in and of itself. I mean when you are surfing in water. Really if a shark wants you, it's getting you. It's not doing it out of malice, the shark is simply a shark. That's its nature.

So then imagine a giant shark that could literally swallow you whole. Like jump through a wave and literally just chomp you before you even knew what happened.
