Jason Statham to take on Meg

Hilariously, something very close to point 2 actually happened in the book.

"How are you going to stop a giant prehistortic shark?"

"Punch the **** outta that ****ing fish."

At least it was not cancelled.

This could be a good popcorn movie if this first pic is any indication.

It's so strange when you have a movie that's been publicly in development for almost..two decades. I remember reading about the film adaptation when I was a teen.

And then when it finally gets the green light, something is off. Or the vibe isn't jiving because the project will probably not hit its full potential despite the decades of development. That's how I feel about Meg.

I think by the time it comes out, it'll be a fun B-fest, but I'd expect more out of it due to the hell it went through.

I'm 300 pages into the book. It's pretty fun, if poorly written. It's perfect dad fodder for Statham.

The books are pretty fun, if trashy.

As much as I'm looking forward to this I have no idea if it will turn out to be any good. I love Jason Statham, but even I feel he was the wrong choice for Jonas Taylor. When I first read the book which was like over 10 years ago I always had pictured someone like Thomas Jane or Cole Hauser in that role, and even though I was 14 at the time I still kind of do to this day. Statham just doesn't have that scientist/everyman vibe IMO, but we'll just have to wait and see. Speaking of Thomas Jane though if this can atleast turn out to be schlocky fun like Deep Blue Sea than that would be a major accomplishment. No shark movie has topped that one in terms of just how ridiculously fun it is including The Shallows which is still a very solid shark film in itself.

I actually have a cousin who is a scientist and lectures at University - he's about as 'unscientist-y' as you can get in terms of look and demeanour. So even if JS basically looks at some charts and just kind of nods and grunts in this movie, I'm willing to go along with it.

Bumping this thread, just out of a general wondering when we might get something. Anything.

I would think this would have a more compact marketing strategy so I would guess late winter / early spring 2018.

It's not so much looking like a scientist but being able to portray a believable scientist.

My interest in Meg that it could be a type of glorious B-movie Trainwreck with a slightly bigger budget than your typical B movie. I'm not expecting Jaws, but at best, I'd like something like Deep Blue Sea.

I've wanted to see this movie get done for a long time for a few reasons, and Statham as the lead could make it pretty entertaining. But I've always enjoyed that production artwork of a giant killer shark silhouetted in the water and just jumping through the waves and eating surfers :D

Meg would be a sardine sized snack for Godzilla I guess..

It's 13 months out and not exactly a priority for WB unless they fold it into the Monsterverse.

I certainly don't want to seem like one of those impatient fanboys [as Lord knows, that type of **** makes me roll my eyes] and I get that the movie has been pushed back to August 2018 but its still been six months since principal photography ended and we haven't even seen an image [save for that shot of Statham and Li Bingbing on the bridge of the ship] of the movie or a poster. Actually, looking at the post-production time given to this movie [what, 18 months?] I'd say its not unreasonable to expect nothing short of stellar FX.

I just pray , the think tank on this team, doesnt place any 'Jaws' references in it.
Even as an homage.
To me, that means the best shark movie ever filmed will be Jaws [up to this point that is still true] and this is the best we could do.
Right now they have the chance to go beyond where Jaws could ever go in its scope. They have a monster shark that could push the boundaries and make Jaws look like a guppy. I just hope their creative team and writing team doesnt mirror 'Jaws' and strikes out on their own new territory.

The first name that I heard for Jonas Taylor was Patrick Stewart.
I am still sorry that never happened.

100%. The time for post they have, means there's no excuse for half assed CGI. And yeah, a few more stills wouldn't hurt honestly.

Hopefully no one will be confused by such a necessary but drastic change. :whatever:

Guy in theatre - ''Huh? I came here to watch 'MEG' - what the hell is 'THE MEG'?!''
