The basic story of the novel is so outdated now written before we knew much about sharks. Or as Peter Benchley himself once said:
 
"Knowing what I know now, I could never write that book today," said Benchley, who also co-wrote the screenplay for "Jaws." "Sharks don't target human beings, and they certainly don't hold grudges."
 
Making a movie out of this story is probably the last thing the world needs. At least the sharks of the world. Imagine if somebody decided to remake one of those old westerns where indians are depicted as some wild, primitive people only interested in killing.
