Jean and Storm

Unless you saw a different film than I did, Storm seemed to show quite a bit of compassion and sorrow over the death of Xavier. She also seemed shocked and in disbelief over the insinuation that Scott had also been killed. Or did you forget these scenes?

She didn't show the same feelings for Jean, but maybe that's because--maybe--=Gasp!= Jean was the same murdering denominatior in both of the deaths.

Seriously are you Halle or something cause if anyone ever disses her you are on the spot defending her. Give it up, she sucked. She had her chance and blew it. No wonder I ignore you on all my other names.

Excuse me? Way to make it personal...grow up.

I'm not talking about the actress at all. I'm talking about Storm and Logan breaking down in tears over the death of their mentor. Whether you or anyone else thinks it was acted well or not is besides the point here: the fact is there was compassion and emotion shown. Storm wasn't heartless...and if you look at it from her standpoint you can see why she cut Jean off:

According to the movie cannon, Xavier, Scott, Jean, and Storm are the original X-Men. Jean has killed off half of the original team in cold blood AND joined their archnemesis. In other words, Storm's entire X-family (sans the kids) is completely obliterated in a manner of hours. You don't think she's going to be on the defensive regarding this rogue "Jean"? As she said, Logan would be wise to let her go, because if she can treat her lover AND father figure that way, what guarantee is there that Storm and Logan wouldn't get similiar treatment? The Phoenix was not displaying one ounce of loyalty at that point so Storm was warning him for his safety.

It's classic human nature and totally understandable.

The only interaction I wanted to see with Jean and Storm, is Jean/Famke vaporizing her.

It's not Jean's fault Xavier supressed her powers and created a split personality in the process.

Gawd, I wanted to slap Storm across the face. Also who is she to speak when her power is all fine and dandy but she goes off on Rogue who's power is more like a curse or for once think of someone like Beast who looks like an animal. Instead of coming off as compassionate or understanding, she comes off like a biatch.

Halle rocked as Storm compared to the shotty treatment the character got last time. This movie version of storm was head and shoulders above the last two.

The writing was still mediocre. Why dont they just get chris claremont or someone to write the script? Morrison? Hell I would take Josh Whedon.

no Jean/Famke sends her flying against something...or knocks her out...

I agree. That makes sense. I guess I kept confusing the comic book with the movie verse which is bad. The movie verse is just too different.

He said she showed no comapssion because Halle sucked 3 times in a row. Then read your post again.

Has anyone considered the possibility that Storm was justifiably angry with "Jean"?

"Jean" vaporized the only true father figure in Storm's life (Xavier pratically raised her after having lost her own father in death), and murdered her figurative brother, trainer and colleague Scott Summers. And if it weren't for Logan's healing properties, "Jean" would certainly had destroyed him too. ALL of these actions were done in cold blood. And the Dark Phoenix showed zero remorse for her actions.

You guys really expect Storm to try to reason with her? I think not.

But what kind of reaction is "She made her choice"? Clearly she didn't...she didn't chose to have Xavier block conscious access to the majority of her power level...but she DID choose to save Storm and the rest of the X-Men at the end of X2. I don't see why she'd be so quick to write Jean off, when Jean is obviously not herself...she was hanging on to her sanity by her fingernails and begged Wolverine to kill her...another choice she was ready to make. It also stands to reason that they can't beat Jean through force, so the only chance is to try to reach the core part of her persona. Besides, if all they did was "just let her go" as Storm suggested, what would that accomplish? Why leave someone who is that great a threat in the hands of Magneto or on her own?

They can't beat Jean through force? Didn't wolverine stab her? Oh wait maybe he talked her to death.

Jean had just murdered Prof X who was like a father figure to Storm in the movie. Then she ran off with Magneto. She didn't come back to the mansion for help. And don't get me started on poor Scott.

Just let her go was meant as "You cant save her because the Jean we know is already dead." And guess what? Storm was right. He couldn't save her.

Storm sees Jean.

Storm: Jean, you're awake!

Jean: Yes...I think I did something... bad.

Storm: Bad..Jean what did you do???

Jean: Not Jean, Phoenix. I killed Scott!

Storm: Phoenix? Your not a phoenix just a coked out telepath.

Storm fries her with a bolt of lightning.

We are talking about the movie/comic characters. I never praised Halle for "showing compassion"--I'm not commenting on the actress' portrayal whatsoever. It was stated that the Storm character was cold and heartless regarding her fellow X-Men and I was pointing out examples that clearly show she wasn't. Therefore I'm not "defending" Halle Berry; I'm sticking to what was shown in the film. It'd be great if you did the same, at least for the sake of this discussion.

You raise good points.

However, we must remember that Charles explained that a dual split personality had developed in Jean due to his "manipulations". In fact, the opening flashback showed a somewhat rude, cynical young Jean Grey. Who's to say that that isn't the true, dominant personality of the woman (interrupted since childhood) showing through for the first time? IMO, X3's Jean Grey is the true personage--unadulterated by Xavier. She had no loyalties of any kind and that's why she started on her murdering spree. She actually hated humans...just like Magneto. Hence her disgusted mocking of Logan "You'd die for them?"

I'd like to point out that Jean murdered and/or tried to kill every main staff member of the mansion with the exception of Storm, the latter being saved ONLY because she realized the danger.

And you can bet your bottom dollar that if Logan didn't possess his regenerative abilities he'd been toast too...many times over.

Can I ask if anyone noticed that Storm was incessantly annoyed if she was talking to anyone but Xavier? She seemed so condescending towards everyone....which is like Storm from the comics, but she was very majestic and reserved. This Storm seemed to enjoy nagging everyone.

I'm surprised Storm herself made no attempt after besting Callisto to take out Jean, she is second only to Jean in the amount of full power she could unleash, im not saying she could beat Phoenix, but what a spectacle it could be

Yup.

Even if Scott showed up and was moving towards Jean...while trying to get her to come back...he would have been toast too...

That topic would probably be better suited for the Official Storm discussion thread, wouldn't you agree? We're talking about the relationship between Jean and Storm and how it's unraveled in X3 here.
