Comics Jean and the Phoenix Force

If I remember right at the end of the Grey's End story Rachel said something to the effect of "I'm not Phoenix... but by the time I'm done with them the Shi'ar are going to wish I was." Meaning she doesn't intend on going all Phoenix-y, she's going to go after them using only her own [vast] powers. I mean within the last year of Uncanny we've seen her create a black hole to get rid of The Fury and restructure her entire genome just using her own powers. But then again she still manifests the Phoenix raptor "eye patch" when she uses her power so maybe on some level she's always going to be connected to the force and drawing power from it.
Was that the part where she needed help? Not to create a black hole (what is that anyway?) but to do something after that?

Perhaps my favorite Jean moment...:)

X-Men 28 - Jean Vs Sabretooth

It really sad that they punked Jean out in a later encounter with Creed.

One... of mine as well. ;) But when did Marvel ever "punk out" Jean to Victor after that? Surely not in the one-shot where she and the other originals pursued him through NYC. This was following his escape from the mansion and damn near fatal attack on Psylocke. I think it might've been called Bloodlines and KNOW it featured the beautiful artwork of Mr. Gary Frank. Anyway, Phoenix was the one who took Sabretooth down in the end... BRUTALLY so! He even told her that she was the ONLY other X-Man who was capable of taking him out... PERMANENTLY! Wolverine, of course, was the other and Creed went on to say Jean was more like the two of them than the rest of the X-Men. That's my girl! :D

Sadly, it wasn't Jean that took Creed out. He was actually stopped by some cops who shoot him multiple times.

It true, Jean did show how easily she could control Creed during their first encounter of the comic but later on in that same book...

Sabretooth - In the Red Zone

I was like what the heck.

You're right! Wow, it's been a while, LOL! Funny how your mind only recalls the things you WANT to remember sometimes. ;) Isn't this the scene right after the one I was talking about though? Right before, Jean had sent him sailing through the wall of a building, where unfortunately a society party was underway. Sabretooth naturally takes one of the hapless revelers hostage, threatening he'll kill her if Jean makes a move on him. This is when Phoenix lays the smack down on Creed, systematically breaking one of his legs in multiple spots telekinetically. All to prove she would go to ANY lengths to stop him from harming more innocents, even killing... and SHE SAID SO! Then Sabretooth, as a last resort, tries a little psychological warfare to weaken her game. By bringing up the darker side of HER nature no less, something she's never been very comfortable with. The traits he attributed to her, from my post preceding this one, were from this very moment I believe. Could you post those pages? Please! 'Cause it's definately ANOTHER of Jean Grey's greatest moments! :D

those are awsome. What issue is that from? Thats the Jean I know. Jean kicks ass!! :D

uh I need help writing how Jean changes the molecules around her and voila, she's wearing clothes.

im talking about how can you explain how she manipulates the molecules around her ... in terms of her clothes...like when she goes from green/yellow to red/yellow......

She's tha Phoenix. She wants it to happen, so it does. Period. Seems the answer to everything, don't see why not that.

okay...but how about explaining that in detail? I mean... what if ...what if she's naked? I know she can manipulate anything around her...but uh I want to explain that in detail of how she goes from nakedness to wearing clothes...again...

I always thought she telekinetically rearranges the molecules that make up her clothes into what she wishes them to be or if she is naked she rearranges the air molecules around her body to become clothing I might be wrong though..When she's at that power level she can pretty much change anything into whatever she wants by rearranging their molecules

I know what she does with her TK, its the matter of how you go into that in detail within the context of the story...

anyway. in my story, she comes back but more powerful than she was in x3...

Pretty much this. She rearranges the molecules into molecules that she wants

Those are some of my faves Jean moments as well. What Phoenix fans do not seem to realize is that Jean has no need of the Phoenix Force to be cool. She was a very strong figure without the Phoenix powers and ****.

I'm one of those people who do realize and appreciate that, and that's the kind of Jean I use in my stories, especially now more than ever to give her the credit she deserves, and to show the true strength and power that is Jean Grey.

Yeah. She doesn't make something from nothing, there always has to be something there first for her to rearrange. It can be a pretty neat power, especially when it's used for something good and non-destructive. Too bad most people only focus on the destructive side of it

I agree, I think when Jean isn't at those super high levels her character can be explored better and given some humanity, something which even Emma said she had lost right before she died. The Phoenix is great..in doses and if you over expose it then it becomes boring IMO

Some fan authors have touched on this concept nicely. Phoenix powers by themselves can't solve everything, it's the skill with which they are wielded and used that makes the difference. And it's about control as well, not just being powerful As someone pointed out, control isn't about how powerful you are, but how careful you can be :) And Jean definitely has that right combo. If anyone can handle the Phoenix, it's her. But there's more to her than just the Phoenix, of course. And that too is a shame when people forget about Jean's better half :)

Honey I thing the problem is Jean can't handle the Phoenix Force... "she" went mad the first time, and then she died the "second" time... she can't handle it. Rachel was able to handle it far better than hers, she didn't go mad, she didn't die while in control of the Force.

You're right, that explains why Jean was the only one to put the PF in check during the End Song...

I think it's that by that point Jean herself became more powerful and experienced at dealing with the Phoenix force, and by getting Scott to fall in love with Emma instead, it helped take away some of the Phoenix Force's "sentimental" appeal.

Rachel was born to the phoenix force their has all ways been a fraction of the pf in side of Rachel growing. When you think about it it makes sence that she handels it better then her mom.Jean went crazy because of the power rush.Rachel must have been feeling that tuging at her soul from the time she was born for Jean all that power came to her pretty much all at once.
