The Last Jedi John Boyega as Finn (VIII)

I'd really like to see some actual repercussions to his defection, beyond shooting his former mates and woohoo-ing while he does it.

Boyega said this movie is going to be darker and more physical for Finn.

I can see the First Order going all out to get Finn this time round. Sending bounty hunters and troops after him.

Finn is First Order enemy number one.

I hope Boyega dials it back a bit this time around. His character was good but he went a little too over the top at times and I hate to say it but in the lightsaber duels he came off like a modern day brother stereotype fighting waving the saber around and screaming.

I don't recall screaming

Also if I remember correctly Finn's brief strikes and defensive blocks looked fine. He wasn't just wild swinging the lightsabre like a novice who had no idea what he was doing.

It would be cool to see Phasma have a vendetta against Finn and she pursues him in this movie. It'd give her something to do at least. :funny:

People do say and they have a point, it would have made more sense if Phasma instead of that riot control stormtrooper to faced him in that scene.

It absolutely would've. Phasma is Finn's nemesis and there would have been a lot more exploration of that dynamic if they had fought. This may be too much of a retread of Empire but I can easily see Phasma going full Boba Fett and tracking down Finn to bring him back to the FO ala Han and Jabba.

Or she leads an elite commando team (perhaps under Hux's overall command) to hunt him and his buddy Poe down (who are on some kind of mission for Leia).

I'm curious to see what Boyega means by a more "physical" role this time (beyond just more combat, because I fully expect that). He's apparently been working out with/training with the guys who helps MBJ bulk up for Creed which is exciting. What kind of combat basically?

Boyega seems to be going hard in the gym.

I would love for him to not be a Jedi but still carry a lightsaber anyway. One he uses in combat as well.

Would love to see a re- watch between him and Kylo.

Variety:
John Boyega: New ‘Star Wars’ Is ‘Darker, Bigger’ Than ‘Force Awakens’
Elsa Keslassy said:
And how is it working with Rian Johnson after having worked with J.J. Abrams?

Boyega:
It’s very easy. Rian Johnson is great. It’s a different take, darker, bigger. Someone will say: “How do you get bigger than ‘Force Awakens?'” But it’s crazy.

Does your character get darker?

Boyega:
My skin color does because of the heat on the job! That’s me dodging your question because Disney has spies everywhere. If I answer this, I get killed, and I’m not in episode nine.

Deadline - ‘Star Wars’ John Boyega Takes Lead In ‘Pacific Rim’ Sequel

Legendary Pictures has set Star Wars: The Force Awakens star John Boyega for the lead role for the second installment of its Pacific Rim franchise. Steven S. DeKnight is directing the film, which will begin production in the fourth quarter of this year, based on the world created by Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beacham. Boyega will play the son of the character played by Idris Elba in the del Toro-directed original film. Universal will release the film worldwide, everywhere but China. The 2013 original grossed $411 million.

Hopefully Finn is better in this next movie, they need flesh him out better.

I was most excited to see Boyega give a great performance in TFA but his character was a letdown considering his background.

Here's hoping they write some gravitas into this role because it has the potential to be one of the best SW roles but was pretty underwhleming in the last movie

The Hollywood Reporter - John Boyega Joins Kathryn Bigelow's Detroit Crime Drama (Exclusive)
A summer shoot in Detroit and Boston is being planned.

Star Wars star John Boyega has been cast in Kathryn Bigelow’s untitled Detroit project.

Bigelow is directing the crime drama, her first feature since 2012’s Zero Dark Thirty. It is being financed by Annapurna Pictures and has an original script by her frequent collaborator Mark Boal.

Details of the project are unknown for now but the story is set against the backdrop of Detroit’s devastating riots that took place over five summer days in 1967, with the film seeking to explore the systemic racism in the city. The roll call is described as an ensemble piece.

I'd love for Finn and Phasma to have some sort of epic fight. :funny:

And she does need something to do, Phasma was wayyyy over hyped. When people were asking Gwendoline to compare her to her GoT character Brienne, it was almost insulting after seeing the final product. Brienne is so much richer.

If Finn isn't a Jedi/Force Sensitive like it's been foreshadowed in VII then I'm done. Word bond.

I go back and forth on Finn being a force user. I want him to be, because I want the scope of force users like the ones in the animated films to be touched up on, but part of me wonders if they'll just excuse it as being really good with weapons since he was a storm trooper?

Finn being Force Sensitive does 3 things for me.

1) Makes Rey less of a Mary Sue. I hate Mary Sues/Gary Stus with a passion. But I like Rey and I want to keep liking her.

2) My favorite character of the new generation is a Jedi.

3) It's a great set up for a New Jedi Order with Rey and Finn training the next generation.

I don't want Finn to outshine Rey or become the main character or even more powerful than her. But I do want him to be Jedi. I like the idea that if you believe enough in the Force and that you're willing to dig in deep enough you can use it. And I like the idea that it's a living thing subtlely pushing destiny along. That fits extremely well with FN-2187's story so far.

It works better than midichlorians, anyhow. :funny:

I like the idea of them training new Jedis, only I hope they form a completely different order with different rules and allow them to have relationships. Basically I want them to be more like Kanan's version of a Jedi (minus that drinking problem he used to have)

Interesting tidbit from Pablo regarding how the First Order "recruits" Stormtroopers.

I always felt from the second I saw TFA that later on in the trilogy we would have Finn journey to where he came from, uncover more dirty secrets of the First Order and have some sort of redemption so to speak.

For some reason I just have always imagined a scene with Finn on a cliff overlooking a town watching First Order Stormtroopers taking crying babies from their homes to "train" them. I always had a feeling that is how Phasma may come back into the loop. Since she seems to be somewhat in control of the troopers themselves.

I just always imagined a green like world at night with full moons shining on and Finn is watching on in horror as Stormtroopers led by Phasma rip children out of the arms of their parents.

For some reason I always matched this imagined scene with this music from TDKR from 29 seconds to 1:36.

Wut.

I like the idea of Finn seeing how the Storm Troopers take the children, or even just explaining the process since he should know all about it.

Seeing something like that would be great. With Finn going and trying to stop them. I want him to be none force sensitive but still carry and use a lightsaber also.
