The Force Awakens John Boyega as Finn

I have to agree with Servprince. They build Finn up so much in the marketing and he turned into nothing but comic relief and a toy for Rey to slap around. Maybe his role will be better in the next two,but clearly in this movie he was the token black guy.

Too bad that you're the same beeping person. Your writing matches Servprince, another 2014 alumni.

Sorry you be dead wrong. Look my IP up. I'm not him. Sorry her. Just because two people didn't like his character doesn't mean were the same. Go check out other Star Wars forums. Thier are lots that didn't care for his role. Are you going to saying were all the same person?

P.S. And it's not like I said his role couldn't get better. I"m just saying in this movie. It left a lot to be desired.

I have no idea how Finn was the token black guy.
Someone that was taken as a child, made into a stormtrooper of the first order and decided to get out and do good.

As well as having some badass moments. And we haven't even seen the last of him.

Get a grip and stop being such a baby. You're embarrassing yourself. As others have pointed out this isn't the first time a non force user has wielded a light sabre.
You are pathetic and you can f off.
Surely we can debate the merits of Finn's character without resorting to name calling. Keep it civil, or keep it to yourselves.

And Sevprince isn't new, or a PBU. He just had a name change.

A TAD bit underwritten, but only a tad. John's timing is IMPECCABLE!

I have no qualms with Finn. Funny, tragic. It's all there.

It is not like I have been warning people about this for a year. All I got for my trouble was the implication that I am somehow racist.

Those of you who think The Finn noise is an overreaction are too busy gloating on Mary Sue Rey to care that someone so talented as John is underutilized as mere comic relief. But the real travesty here is Oscar Issac. Poor guy is almost an after thought in this.

I hope they both get more time to shine , but the way it's looking....Yea.

Boyega and Daisy had crazy good chemistry. I can already see the shippers writing their fan fiction now.

He's not a comic relief, he has an arc, albeit one with not a real payoff. His arc's finale is basically defined via Rey. But in no way is he just a comic relief.

Couldn't have said it any better myself.

The butt hurt is so strong it's hilarious.

You are racist, I'm racist, JJ Abrams is racist, everybody is racist. But let's not talk about some of these people's horrible sexism, that would just be rude.

It has no payoff because there are 2 whole films left. It's like criticising Fellowship or ANH, you're criticising one third of a story which still has 4 hours or so that we haven't seen. People are far far far too quick to **** on anything and everything these days.

Finn was fine. His arc was good in the movie. It certainly feels like his character has room to grow over the new trilogy which is a good thing.

People are doing it all over the place.

"Snoke has no backstory!" "Phasma didn't do anything!" "Luke didn't do anything!" "Finn's arc had no payoff!"

It's like, you DO realize these characters have one or two more movies, right?

If the internet were around in 1977: "Who's this Emperor guy and why don't we see him?", "They gave Luke a lightsaber and he never did anything with it!", "Leia had no arc!", "Where's Han's backstory?!"

Except even those would be more justified as we at least are certain we're getting a sequel and a third.

I wonder what the odds are of him [BLACKOUT]coming back paralyzed. That was a pretty nasty strike that Kylo delivered to finish him off - straight up the middle of his back. If not that severe, I'd be genuinely surprised if he didn't sustain some serious permanent damage from that encounter.[/BLACKOUT]

So, what is everyone expecting to see from Finn in the next couple outings?

What do you want to see happen to/with him?

I thought Finn was great. Him and Po were great. That little scene of their escape was awesome.

To become a full fledged Jedi
[BLACKOUT]I was hoping he'd go with Rey at the end, but he didn't[/BLACKOUT]

Agreed.

To become a full fledged Jedi

That would be cool, but I'm also open to seeing him walk his own path, whatever that entails. He was a bit of a screw-up, and I think that was by design. I hope to see him grow more confident as a leader now that he's found his place in the Resistance.

I don't think that's off the table. We could be seeing a setup in the same vein as Spider-Man '02.

He will ignore the good reviews that Boyega is getting because his beef is that he always wanted Boyega to be the lead and now that he knows 100% that he isn't he wants to tear the whole house down.

1. Just because Boyega is getting good reviews, doesn't discount the poster's complaints about him playing the stereotypical useless comic relief Black guy (assuming of course, that is indeed true about his character in this movie).

2. Correct me if I'm wrong, while Boyega isn't the SOLE lead of this new SW trilogy, he is one of the main 3 co-leads of this new trilogy.

It's not.

I thought he was really good here. Boyega did not disappoint.

Had some really nice chemistry with Daisy Ridley, and I can't wait to see them in future sequels.

Damn, that sucks. Funny how Lucas got a lot of crap for Jar Jar (who some even called a racist caricature), but Abrams gets a pass for making Finn into the stereotypical useless comedic Black guy. Now granted, I haven't seen this movie yet in order to judge for myself if this is indeed the case, but based on the spoilers that I have read this does seem to be the case, which I find very disappointing.
