I wonder if it will do better outside the US

the movie is getting alot of positive word of mouth here which is good
i want more john carter movies

Maybe it's damage control, maybe, but still, spring break is here and kids and adults will probably have a better opportunity to go see it with the good-word-of-mouth that it seems to be getting. Let's wait and see....
The movie opened up behind the Lorax which is in its second week. The bigger competition coming up says no to this.

The movie was alright. Would have been an event if it came out in the 90's though.

The princess looking all sun kissed and half naked reminded me how fickle fan boys are when it comes to hating such things in lesser films.

The jumping needed consistency for all we know he could have leaped home and it would have been fine.

The tarks made the movie for me.

Saw the movie and enjoyed it. When James Purefoy had a sword I was hoping he would go Solomon Kane or Iron Clad and start chopping dudes in half :woot:

Taylor Hitch did a good job as a leading man. Lynn Collins was hot and her accent was good.

This is Ciran Hinds 3rd big movie of the year so far having been in Ghost Rider: SV and The Women In Black As Well.

Some critics were saying Dominic West was hammy but I didn't theink so. He was fine and nowhere near his performance in Punisher WarZone.

Mark Strong was solid as always.

As others have said Disney really should of hit hard that John Carter inspired all the other Sci Fi movies over the years with the marketing campaign. Also dropping the 'Of Mars' from the title was stupid.

Being way older than 25 myself.....it's nice seeing a movie not made strictly for a 12 year old.

I agree. Alot the time its not even that the movies are aimed at kids its that treat the whole audiences like they are idiots.

In the books Martian chicks only wear elaborate jewelry and no clothes.

Seems like they skipped the John Carter being
functionally immortal. Having been alive for longer than he can remember always being aged around 30 years old.

I remember finding a copy of Edgar Rice Burroughs A Princess of Mars in a box in one of my High School classrooms. After reading it i wondered why a film or even a t.v series was never made based on such an interesting story. There was a Marvel Comics series and recently a comic series from Dynamite
It bounced around from Looney Tunes to Paramount studios for over 80 years.
Finally in 2012 Disney has brought JC to the big screen.

The film has some wonderous, fun, funny and action packed moments.
Taylor Kitsch as John Carter does a fine job as the former Confederate captain John Carter who is mysteriously transported to Mars.
Lynn Collins as Dejah Thoris, Princess of Helium plays well with Kitsch, and those eyes....WOW.
You might need a scorecard to keep up with the warring races that inhabit Mars/Barsoom
The film does have flaws.Plot holes, an underdeveloped villain (Dominic West as Sab Than, Prince of Zodanga),interesting plot points that are never explored.
Still these flaws dont water down whats good about JC.
Such as an effective action sequence which blends in flashbacks of a tragic turning point in JC's life on earth.
Im looking forward to the DVD .It will be interesting to see what was cut from the film.
SCALE OF 1-10 AN 8

For the record, Entertainment Weekly's review of John Carter is complete bullcrap.

I'm really loving the word of mouth for John Carter, hopefully more people see it.

I like this image

Awesome image, still looking forward to seeing this.

Anybody else who thought this scene was badass/emotional? That was my favorite moment from the film.

I saw this movie last night. It was really amazing. At first, the new world and the strange names and culture might be a little overwhelming and sort of odd. But the characters are so likeable, and the story is so great, that you'll get over it and have a great time. I seriously hope it gets a sequel. Why does crap like transformers 3 make over a billion and a great movie like this not even have an amazing OW?

i just realized that John Carter didnt have any problem seeing flying vehicles. no question what that is? hehehehe ;)

no problem

no problem

Yes he did. He asked Dejah how they can fly. That's when he told her how on Earth we travel on water.

This movie actually had some great action.
i was happy that Stanton used old school action. no shaky cam. it was very clear. some parts looked like Indiana Jones. great to see some are smart enough to use Spielberg as an inspiration

i remember that part. but he didnt look suprised that flying is even possible.

its not a problem. :yay:

$70 million outside the U.S. so far.

Disney will probably try to spin it by claiming that it's doing well in the international box office, but truthfully grossing only 30 mil in its first week in the U.S. is a huge disappointment, especially considering the budget to be around 250 mil or so. Right now I'm not sure if they will greenlight a sequel, and I think this will be mentioned in the same breathe as SR and GL, two other 200 mil underperformers.

maybe if they add some more money to promote the movie in march ? maybe realese a new trailer that makes it clear that this is a fun adventure movie? maybe they could get more scifi fans?

If a sequel will be made, I can see Disney doing some retooling, perhaps lowering the budget, get some bigger names, or maybe even sell it to another studio like they did with Narnia.

Lighter than air craft, hot air balloons, existed for a long time prior to the Civil War. Some were even used in the war for observation or scouting. The concept isn't that foreign.

I am going to go with the scene when [BLACKOUT]Dejah gives John and way out and he refuses to take it. The raw emotion from both of them was moving and startling. [/BLACKOUT]

Hot air balloons had existed since the late 1700's, and they were used during the Civil War by both sides for observation and directing artillary. So it's not like he had never seen people flying in something before.
