Action-Adventure John Wick: Chapter 4

Dang what a movie that fired on all cylinders. Everything that happened in Paris was awesome and the highlight for me. As good as this was though, I kinda like the first John Wick more. It had a simplicity that's been missing since then IMO.
I rewatched it the other night right after I saw Chapter 4 and I was shocked at how subdued it is. It is much less stylized and it plays more like a thriller than an action film. I had not seen it in a while. It's still my favorite too. It might not have the best action but it is much more character-driven: Keanu Reeves shows emotions!

One of my favorite fight scenes in recent memory. As expect, it was Chad's intention to make it so that it's clear Wick knew Caine could beat him in a fight if they go hand to hand for too long. I think that's one of the things that makes this sequence so memorable. It's short burst increments of fantastic choreography.

Yeah and it’s also just so smart and shows respect to Donnie. They don’t force him to slowdown like we’ve seen martial artists in the past have to do in America, while at the same time Keanu doesn’t look like an idiot. And it just showcases both characters and both of them having an edge over the other in different elements.

This might be the greatest action movie I’ve ever seen. There are 3 legitimately mind blowing set pieces that I’ll never forget, and I wasn’t expecting the finale at all given how Hollywood action franchises function.

Instead of doing another sequel that would be the fifth movie in chronological order, I wouldn’t mind if they go back and do a prequel of sorts showing John completing the “impossible task” that was mentioned in the first two movies. Plus I would have loved to see him interact with his wife and deciding to leave the business for her. Just show a different side of him that the first movie touched on.

Not seen 4 yet but I agree the first movie is by far and away the best for me so far. I miss it's simplicity. The sequels just added far too much stuff to the assassin world where it seemed there was one on every street corner.

Really hope I enjoy 4 but 2 and 3 were just not for me.
My thoughts exactly

62% drop in its 2nd weekend. Largest drop of the franchise. I was hoping for 50-55. But D&D is hot right now.

What are we thinking the ceiling is for a worldwide gross?

So yeah
the entire sequence with Keanu using nunchucks left me kinda speechless.
Perhaps the best pure hand to hand combat I’ve seen since the early days of Jackie Chan in Police Story and Drunken Master 2.
That whole scene was expertly choreographed. I could watch it on repeat forever.

I'm still thinking about this movie daily. I know that in this day and age, people tend to move on quickly due to the amount of media we get, but this movie has been living rent free in my head since opening night haha. A modern masterpiece.

My wife and I saw JW4 on Monday, Shazam on Tuesday, and D&D yesterday. And as much as I enjoyed Shazam and D&D, it's JW4 that keeps coming to mind. I wanna see it again so bad!

I plan on seeing D&D this week, but I've already seen John Wick 4 twice haha. I want to see it a 3rd time.

I massively enjoyed D&D. Def worth it if you're up for a comedy version of D&D. I'm seeing JW Friday or Saturday, my cinemas still haven't updated the weekend showings to enable me to book.

My local theater does this. The only time they put tickets up right away is for MCU movies.

Hmm, in the past I've been able to book at least a week in advance but guess I don't always try much more in advance of that for films I'm not expecting to sell out, and also haven't done it much since Covid. Hopefully they're up soon as I need to be able to arrange the rest of my weekend around it as it involves travelling to my sister's too.
