I know fanboys are applauding the take, but I think it may have been a little TOO grounded. I've flipped through some of the more iconic storylines from the books, and it probably could have done well to include some robots, mutants and Dark Judges.
Robots and mutants were definitely in the film.

Did they show any other mutants other than Anderson? Who looks pretty non-mutant but has psychic abilities.

It's not that world is too grounded, its just that they had no money to do lots of robots and mutants

Do you need a lot of money to put a couple people into prosthetics or have some robot props lying around in a workshop? Again, haven't watched the Movie, so maybe something like that is in.

The film makers did the right thing, you introuduce the character in the first movie and then you have the major villian in the sequel. I'm not writing off a sequel just yet, there is DVD/Blu ray and then Syndication to a channel that will show the movie. The movie is bombing but people will hopefully take a chance on the DVD.

If there is a sequel we'll probably end up having to bootleg it on this side of the pond considering.

If you don't care about being spoiled, although it's minor.
She is the only mutant shown in the movie, but a character does make references to mutants in a conversation with Anderson about her abilities.

You beat me to it,,, very well put!

I don't understand the complaints about the lack of ads. I have seen plenty and they are the reason why I want to see this.

I havnt seen much besides internet movie sites. Not alot of showtimes in theatres either.

Wouldn't it be possible to still include all of that stuff in sequels? Did the director, writers or Urban say where they see a sequel heading?
Cursed Earth/Origins. Dark Judges. Or that was Garland's general idea anyway.

This will be a cult hit for sure. I'd bet DVD sales are awesome when it hits, but probably not enough to warrant a sequel considering how poorly it did at the box office. Fingers crossed, though.

Well, it hasn't been released everywhere yet. There's still hope for worldwide box office numbers to be good.

There are many stories revolving around the Cursed Earth but I think they were looking at an origins tale concerning Mega City One etc. The actual Origins book centres on the Cursed Earth too, and it might get a tad Mad Maxian with all the mutants running around.

Pretty much how Dredd was about the day in the life of a Judge, A Cursed Earth sequel would probably be the same. A stand alone story that uses that setting.

Seeing that the movie will exit the theaters fast. I wonder how soon it will hit blu-ray/DVD.

If one is applauding something that's not exactly like the book, how does that make one a fanboy?

I've gone on a Dredd graphic novel spree and Cursed Earth was one of the worst storylines I read and the Dark Judges was one of the best, IF there is a sequel I hope they hit the Dark Judges next.

Hey Balthus, did you almost get a PWZ vibe from Dredd? I actually felt a little Punisher in the movie..

Hell of a difference though. PWZ was a poorly directed piece of **** [Lexi Alexander shouldnt be let anywhere near a directors chair again] whereas this movie is anything but.

Just looking at the numbers for Solomon Kane, which I think is a good comparison for Dredd, that movie made over $19 million WW (not including US, released there this weekend).

If that movie can make that, then surely Dredd can make more than double around the world not counting the US?

I know they are not the same movies by a long shot,,, just speaking in terms of character demeanor thats all.

PWZ was not as bad as the rap IMO, but in no way am i comparing movies.
