I'm disappointed the movie isn't doing better, but hopefully it will get more viewing in once it hits home video.

I think the character was just a tough sell after Stallone and the ads just weren't like hitting the demos IMHO.

It also didn't help that the theaters didn't have very many showings.

The marketing or the lack of definitely didn't help. I only saw one tv spot for the movie and I was first introduced to Dredd when I saw the trailer as I was watching The Dark Knight Rises and even then, the trailer didn't sold the movie very well.

In lieu of some terrible marketing and a crappy trailer for the movie - the actual movie was a decent hard edged throwback to the 70s/ early 80s John Carpenter actioners like "Escape from New York" or even "Assault on Precinct 13"

And it also reminded me in the action stakes of the first "Robocop"
You dont get hardcore scifi actioners like Dredd these days

Only one thats came close this year is Looper and it is inteself very 2000AD-ish

But some tremendous modern sfx and cinematography elevated it beyond these films to something unique and satisfying among the multimillion dollar hollywood fx laden extravaganzas.

This film deserves a sequel and its really depressing that word of mouth hasnt did this movie more justice and encourage others to see it.

It was by no means a perfect Dredd film or a perfect movie in in its own right but it had enough to it to warrant a sequel.

I hope it kills on the DVD/Blueray sales and gets one

And I hope it gets a tv show somewhere down the line.

The trailer for this actually put me off (as a Dredd reader, my default response was "excited!"), but after seeing it I thought it was fantastic and that the advertising was lacklustre - I hardly knew anyone who was aware of it. It'll be a day one buy for sure: I want to support the filmmakers and get a sequel. If I can at least do the former, then that's fine.

Its strange, the movie seems to be doing pretty well on weekdays but a lot worse on weekends, which is unfortunately when movies make most of their bank. It wouldnt surprise me to see it back in the top 10 come Monday regarding figures. In the US though I dont see this getting more than $15 million,which is a damn crime.

Possible explanation - men are possibly going to see it during the week on their own when they should be in work whereas come the weekend they go the cinema with their wives/fiances/girlfriends who want to see other movies. At least, that's how it happened for me.

Cassandra Anderson is indeed a solid comic book heroine.

Stallone's Dredd will still hold a place for me just for it's sheer over the top acting and violence but the newest Dredd was pretty good too, a few critics were comparing it to Die Hard as all the film took place in the building which I think got a bit boring at times.

I'd still like a sequel though and Karl Urban is perfectly cast as Dredd.

They don't go overboard with their use of 3D. I do agree about the lack of 2D showings, though. In my area, there was only one 2D showing per theater at like 2pm. I understand that 3D ticket prices can drive up money, but still, that could put a sour note on people that don't want to see it in 3D.

Well I fullfilled my promise, and I finally saw Dredd for the second time (and took my brother too, he really loved it). But jeez, 17 minutes of trailers?! But the theatre did have a number of people there with us, so I guess Dredd does indeed have good word of mouth and people wanting to see it, even comic book fans of Judge Dredd.

Nah I would totally disagree, I didnt find myself ever comparing it to the Raid,, although I can see how you could. Dredd was much more engaging to me,,, I thought the Raid was overkill which is weird for me to say,, I love those kind of movies.. I really did not care for the Raid at all, started out good. The Raid was about as reptitive as it gets IMO. Watching the Raid was like playing survival mode in a video game to me.

Im not knocking "the raid" it just wasnt for me,, I never really thought about it watching Dredd.

Actually Grundy, are you talking about the Stallone version?

I loved The Raid when I first saw it, but it was just as repetitive as Dredd, imo. And yes, The Raid has the awesome fights going for it, while Dredd has stunning visuals, the sci-fi accents and, imo, better acting. To me, Dredd's story, while equally simplistic, just had more flavor to it, if that makes sense - a more distinctive and fully-realized tone. I gave both movies the same rating (7.5/10) after I saw them, but do find myself preferring Dredd overall.

Hooolllly ****t. I know nothing of Dredd outside of the comedy with Stallone. This movie was nuts. Nutso. Urban is the man, and the action was incredible. Seriously surprised by this.
