Judge Dredd Reboot!!

The Dark Judges would be great to see :yay::up:

They are also a reason why I'm not too keen on them changing the tone too much to resemble a Robocop/Mad Max feel: Judge Death & co represent some of the more fantastical aspects of Dredd's comic book world. If you start off having MC1 too grounded for a more 'realistic' setting then adding something like supernatural extra-dimensional death demons in a sequel is not gonna work so well with what they have done before.

Guess it depends though on just how this world looks in the end. We are all making assumptions at this point. As long as something like Judge Death would not seem stupid in this movie world* (like shoving a Poltergeist into a Dirty Harry movie), then that's ok.

*I have not read the script and don't want to, but if anyone has do they allow for the more fantastical bizarre elements of Dredd's world, or is it all a much more watered down version?

I found this video on youtube about 2000 AD. It covers the birth of the magazine, the creation of Judge Dredd, Tharg, and a little bit of Alan Moore's V For Vendetta. It's quite nice to watch for fans. It has Alan Grant, Alan Moore, and Kevin O' Neill among interviews:

^^Heh, that's among the earliest stuff I saw from youtube in 2006, along with the Judge Dredd: Lawman of The Future magazine commercial:)

Conceptual designer Michael Van Kestere seems to be hinting in the 2000ad boards that Lena Headey(300, Sarah Connor Chronicles) will be playing the film's main villain, Ma-ma!

Even with layers of make-up for ma-ma, she would be hot for the role. Or not. Who knows.

It hasn't been officially announced but Lena Headey has been cast as the main villian and gang-leader, Madeline Madrigal AKA Ma-Ma. Lena began work on the film last week.

Nice that they have cast the villain, here's hoping Headey will do good in the role.

Lena is both really hot and a good actress, so I see this as another good sign for the franchise, look forward to seeing her performance.

So is this villian actually a threat for Dredd? Sounds kind of weak.

According to ThePlaylist article she's "the matriarch of a drugs gang, who deals a reality-altering narcotic known as SLO-MO." So she's a threat to Dredd, in a way. But it will be interesting when it's just between her and Dredd, she could put up a fight I guess.

I have to get this off my chest - anyone who knows me from any other thread knows that I always try to be upbeat about projects [probably this one moreso than other because of what this movie represents in terms of future 2000AD movies] and I'm normally the 1st to have a go at the poster that decries 'this is going to bomb big time' etc.

So why do I find myself being distinctly underwhelmed by most things that have been revealed thus far about this movie?

I'm desperately trying to shake this feelling but I can't . Especially when I consider:-

-Karl Urban wearing a paramilitary version (!) of Dredd's uniform but with a helmet that [while looks right in terms of design] is simply massive on his head.
-A villain made up specifically for the movie at the expense of unique and amazing villains that have been part of Dredd's world for years yet have been overlooked by a character being played by......
-Lena Headey in a fat suit (?)
-Rather average looking set pics of cars that are more akin to the world of Mad Max than to the world of Dredd, which suggest that Mega City One isnt going to be quite so 'Mega'.

I hate to be a hater (beleive me, I'm wrestling with the prospect that I have become one but I like to think that these words are not the words of a hater but those of a person who is concerned). Am I the only one who feels a little uneasy about this project?

Is this just going to end up like some low budget DTV hybrid of Doomsday and Punisher: War Zone?

This movie sounds like a*** still. And I hate that Lena is being de-hottified.

:cmad: Hey I thought that was the best Punisher movie by far.

That's not saying much though, is it? :D

It was certainly the one with the most faithful spirit to the comics, but it was **** nonetheless. I blame Lionsgate and Lexi Alexander for that one because we had a Punisher and a Jigsaw that were great.

You're right, but to be fair that was all that I wanted.

I meant no disrespect - if you got what you wanted out of it then more power to ya.

Doug hasn't done mo-cap in a film in his life, and probably would prefer not to do so in the future.

honestly death could be done as a real person, apart from the jaw and mouth there isn't must needed for the look
