Judge Dredd Reboot!!

Doug hasn't done mo-cap in a film in his life, and probably would prefer not to do so in the future.

HM
Maybe Mo-cap isnt quite what i meant.... Im thinking CGI altered, ala Silver surfer/Ghost Rider, for the skull face and possibly to skinny him up a tad.

Jones is plenty skinny enough (when I first saw Hellboy I thought they'd applied CGI to Abe Sapien's forearms/wrists as they looked to thin).
For an example of him doing a Judge Death like make-up job there's his 'Pale Man' from 'Pans Labyrinth'.

Only CGI I can see being needed is when he opens that huge mouth.

^^^^ yeah this is exactly the kind of physical stature i imagine for Death, i'll be surprised if we get to see it any time in the near future but we can hope

John Wagner recently on facebook:

"Very pleased with what I saw of Karl Urban and Olivia Thirlby. Both excellent in their roles and work well as a team. Entire crew really dedicated and determined to produce a damned good movie. Sadly I had to leave before I could see them shooting any ultra-vi. Extremely impressed by the 3-D - apart from the demo at Universal Studios in LA, my memories were of the feeble efforts I saw as a youth. This is a real quantum leap from that, really adds depth. This is going to be good."

"Alex Garland and I have had our disagreements but he has usually had a convincing argument for doing things his way. On the main issue, concentrating the plot on a slice of life rather than trying to convey the wh...ole sweep of Dredd and Mega-City life, I now see that he's right. It was one of the flaws of the first movie, they tried to do too much. I just had a brief conversation with Karl, he's much too hard at work to spare a lot of time. There was one shot where the camera focused in on his face, a reaction to Anderson, and I swear Carlos could have drawn that scowl.
The uniform was still fairly paramilitary, Dale, but it works for me."

Warming more to the body suit design now and the helmet in that shot looks tighter to the head than the other (though the stunt guy in that shot looks to be a little portly going by his chin/s).
And green elbow & knee pads  :yay:

Are there 2 designs for the lawmaster? This one looks like a different bike than the other, which looked to have the more classic rear wheel cover design (if that one wasn't a fake that is)

In a good way, the design reminds me of something out of "Death Race 2000".:yay:

that picture of the bike looks ridiculous... and not in the good way.

it's beyond bad to the point of being pathetic lol... he looks fat and the bike looks like it came from the old batman tv show

i hope this is the last we see of karl urban

It could be a stuntman that's riding it, you know something similar to when people complained about the first set pics of Captain America released even though it's a stuntman that's riding a bike and wore padding (which makes him look fat). About the bike, is not the chopper design from the comics but I still think it looks nice.

Don't care for the bike really. Like the cars it looks very cheap. Costume looks like it could be OK, I want to see more of it though.

Anyone see that trailer for PRIEST another movie with Karl Urban where he plays a vampire bad guy. A lot of the imagery looked similar to Judge Dredd.

sorry i didn't mind the suit but the bike looks like crap. it was one of the few things the stallone movie got right. wonder what the lawgiver will look like

You can see it on the earlier pic that was released. It's based on the MkII model.

Not a fan of that bike - throws out most of the key ingredients that make the Lawmaster so cool and looks more like the bastard child of StreetHawk and one of the turbocycles from Battlestar Galactica: 1980.

Again it highlights to me that I'm not liking much of this project thus far and because I know how much of a drag it is to have to constantly read 'wet blanket' posts and I dont want to become (or be seen as) a troll, from now on I think it'll be best if I only post on this thread when I can post something positive, out of respect for the posters on here who are genuinely looking forward to this movie.

Every positive/negative opinion matters, as long as It's constructive or well founded IMO :woot:

I'm worried about the film, if it doesn't do well at the Box Office the chance of having a good Judge Dredd franchise will be lost for another 10 or 20 years so it all depends on this proyect. Dredd's fanbase on other sites seems to be quite pleased though.

My biggest gripe with the bike is it looks so unbalanced to me. Too front heavy with the big casing over the front wheel and the small handlebars placed back low on the dashboard/console. Would look better with the trademark chopper style handlebars and the seat further forward. Guess they just worked over an existing chassis rather than make a custom one a more accurate balanced design would need. Going by the designers reports on the budget limiting the designs I would say that seems likely.

I'm guessing that other distance shot of the bike was a fake then?
Even from afar I can tell that aint the same bike.

hahahahahaHAhaHAHahhaha what the hell is that!? the lawmaster? It looks utterly R-I-D-I-C-U-L-O-U-S! :P

It's not fair for me to judge the suit because it's a camera phone shot. But I CAN say that the bike looks...blah at best.

It feels like the movie wants to accomplish something grand and epic in scale but without the budget. You can pull if off with a lower budget, but you NEED A CREATIVE DUDE who can work on the cheap. Anway, It doesn't help that its' in 3D, being a $40 Million dollar film. If you have anything under 100 mill, every cent counts. I don't know how much of the 3D will eat away from the budget, but I'm just feeling really weary of this.

of course a chubby stunt man and a bike you don't like will be the end of Urban's career. astute, sir, very astute.
