I'm sort of on the fence about Urban .. he was a bit wooden in Star Trek and Red .. but I can't wait for this one

He was great in Star Trek. He's been 'okay' in his post Lord of the Rings career but with Star Trek, it proved he still has potential. Don't know what you're talking about.

Hopefully now this has wrapped we will get some more production quality stills.

And im hoping when we do they quell any worries i have about the visual quality of the finished product.

Did they actually shoot this in 3D?
Or are the post producing it into 3D?

I still firmly believe they have missed an opportunity by wasting any of the budget for 3D at all... It doesnt need it and i cant see it benefiting from it one bit.

I thought Urban was good in Bourne and Riddick 2 also. In Star Trek he was really good though.

Urban channelled Deforest Kelley just fine, but not so much that it came off as just an attempt at impersonation.

Honestly thought he'd be the weak link in the cast going into Star Trek and came out thinking he was the best, on par with Pine as the standout performance imo.

More information on the Plot:

In a future where Earth has become a radioactive wasteland, 98% of the Human Population is concentrated in the Mega-Cities, where the law is enforced by the Judges, a police force entitled to act as jury, judge and executioner. The best Judge there is is Dredd (Karl Urban), who operates in Mega-City 1.

One day, Dredd is assigned to train recruit Judge Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), who had previously failed the Judge Academy, but received a second chance for being a mutant with heightned psychic abilities that might be useful. The duo is deployed to investigate a triple homicide in the block of Peach Trees, a violent area ruled by Madeline "Ma-Ma" Madrigal (Lena Headey), a sadistic drug dealer who has put a new substance in the market: Slow-Mo, a drug that alters its user's brain's chemics, making it appear as if time is in slow-motion.

Dredd and Anderson discover about Slow-Mo and raid one of the dealing points, capturing one of Ma-Ma's men in the process. In order to prevent him from being taken to the Judges' headquarters, where he'll surely crack under interrogation, she has her skilled team of Hackers cut Peach Trees of the grid and activate the Nuclear Attack continency program, isolating Peach Trees inside a titanium dome. Ma-Ma then puts a bounty on Dredd's and Anderson's heads: Either they die, or the dome doesn't get lifted.

Completelly stranded inside a hostile environment where everyone wants them death, Dredd and Anderson have to find a way to escape and put a stop to Ma-Ma's plans before she is able to expand her turf over the other blocks, effectively becoming Mega-City 1's number one drug dealer.

Id be definitely interested in seeing a rebooted version, although I certainly like the original movie too. Cmon- Sly, Max Von Sydow, Diane Lane and Alan Silvestri's score - great stuff. Might not have been pleasing enough for the picky comic book fanbase but as a movie judged in its own merits it was fun

This is from a poster over the 2000AD board:

"A friend of mine was helping someone out with a uni film assignment last night. He finds he is acting against Rakie Ayola. He's a bit of a lapsed Dredd fan and was chuffed when he found out she was playing the Chief Judge. He didn't manage to get any scoopage that we didn't already know but this comment from my mate was quite cool"

...She went on to tell me that Karl Urban was very stand-offish at first, remaining in character most of the time. He hardly spoke to her off-script to the extent of her texting her husband to say that she didn't like him at all. Almost on cue, Karl turned to her and said, "So, did you fly in from London?" to which Rakie, taken by surprise replied. "Yes, but I'm from Cardiff".

Karl paused before asking, "Have you been in Doctor Who?" and when she said yes, he then asked "Which Doctor?". Rakie went on to explain how her character had sacrificed herself to save the Doctor (as the hostess in 'Midnight') after which they got on like a house on fire.

Gentlemen, I think this man can be trusted as Joe Dredd.....

Heh, heh. Still, Kapow Con is just around the corner(April 9-10) and then finally we're gonna have something fresh from this film to get excited about(hopefully)!

Sounds cool, I hope that they could release a pic of Dredd on the Lawmaster.

Huzzah! For this knight hath great gladnesses that Sir Urban be'ith chosen in this most fine and coveted role! For this thespian did true justice to one of this knight's most beloveth'd characters: the goodly Doctor Leonard McCoy (he who also hath the moniker "Bones"!)! Sir Urban did articulate McCoy's cantankerous demeanor, yet play'eth did he McCoy as a true Gentleman, whose affections lay within the vitality of his crewmen!

This knight hath no appreciations for the tale "Doom", yet absolve'th do I Sir Urban and Sir Rock for the foul nature of this production!

This post now conclude'th!

A poster at imdb states that he/she was at the Kapow 2000AD panel, and that it was mentioned that the film shouldn't be expected until Spring 2012!

Another thing of interest was that 2000ad artist Brendan McCarthy, who had worked on the planned new Mad Max, said that director George Miller was directly influenced by Judge Dredd and 2000A.D comics when making "The Road Warrior"/"Mad Max 2".

Doesnt surprise me one bit when you look at a lot of sci-fi movies over the past 20 years - some of the best known ones have been heavilly influenced by 2000AD.

So much so that it kinda makes you wonder why 2000AD characters havent been fully exploited my Hollywood so far, given some of the big name talent who are obviously fans.

I WANT MORE NEWS AND PICTURES

this lack of info is bothering me, i hope they havnt run into problems or are having doubts during post production.

It could be that they're taking their time working hard on the post-production of this film to make it look "real polished", as it is a film that was shot relatively quick with a modest budget.

According to Karl Urban,
"Dredd was a gruelling shoot, it was. I have not seen an edit because they're actually, right as we speak, at the process of putting it together, but I think it's gonna kick ass and I believe in Alex Garland [producer and screenplay writer on Dredd]."

I don't think there's been any mention of a teaser trailer release yet. However, with "Dredd" being a Lionsgate release, a teaser being attached to "Conan The Barbarian" in August shouldn't be unexpected.
