There's a big possiblity that they may splice Scott's fate into the film prints just at the very, very last minute.

It has been done before in films...waiting until the last might before revealing something.

Very true....and if your sources are correct, then this somewhat proves that the novel and the film is different because the novel clearly says what happens to him.

If they really, really wanted it to remain a mystery, they wouldn't mention anything in the novel as well.
