Quantumania Kathryn Newton is Cassie Lang

Liked her well enough, she played into the usual annoying teen trope but not to point of me hating her.

Because the few scenes she’s in are so cringe that I’m glad they didn’t give her more screen time.

How can she be bland when they didn't really write anything for her? She and Hope were bearly in the movie.
Eh doesn't matter. She was bland when delivering her lines and showing emotions.

Her character was way too basic in terms of motivation. This movie they could have easily passed the mantle to her but decided to be basic. She lacked the charisma we got from a Kate Bishop and Yelena.

She was okay but she didn’t really add much to the role. They could have kept the same actress from Endgame and there wouldn’t be any difference.

Newton and Rudd had zero chemistry together. I felt more in Fuhrmann's 2 minute scene in Endgame with Rudd than I did with Newton in an entire film here.

That was a really good scene.

So when I first found out about the recast,I was just like...why?

So i googled it, and from what I read they decided to go with someone with a higher profile... I haven't even heard of the actress until this movie. Wrong decision.

I haven't seen the movie yet but what exactly did Kathryn Newton bring to the role that the actress from Endgame couldn't have brought? I am still baffled as to why they bothered to recast.
The obvious is probably recognition. Part of the demographic they want to hit probably know her more than previous actress.

But she already appeared in Endgame... so its baffling. They cast a nobody for Shang-Chi prior to Quantumania.

I don't remember Marvel Studios recasting anyone unless the actor said no, the actor is unavailable or the character is older.

I've never seen Kathryn in anything before so I can't really say if maybe she needs better direction, but:

1) The script did her version of Cassie no favors. She felt unlikeable; it was too much of a contrast to Emma's Cassie from Endgame whose short screen time made her feel like a continuation of Abby/young Cassie who loved/adored Scott and was in tears upon his return into her life. Her character being rebellious is one thing, but being disappointed at Scott for not going out of his way to help others when the one thing he's always wanted to be was a good father and spend time with his family as a result of unintentionally missing out 5 in-universe years seemed cold to me.

2) Kathryn can emote, but her facial expressions were too stiff. It made her look continually angry save for the times when Cassie was sad or scared.

3) I really wished she had more lines similar to her (paraphrasing) "If I made this machine earlier, I could've searched the Quantum Realm and found/get you back sooner" to help reconcile that this is the same Cassie who loves her father so much.

4) It's mostly true of everyone in the cast (save for MODOK to an extent, surprisingly), but there wasn't a character arc for Cassie. Most of her character has already been "formed" - she's a scientific teen genius (due to working with Hank), has her own suit, and is actively going out of her way to help people despite this getting her into trouble and jailed. Something as simple as wanting her dad's approval for the last item (since he's done the exact same thing in the past) or even developing her skills in wanting to assist/fight side by side with Scott doesn't exist as a motivating factor. The only thing she is not is a good fighter, but that's just a skill she can eventually develop.

I hope the next appearance of Cassie gets back some of the more likeable qualities of Abby/Emma's Cassie, and has an actual character arc.

Meh, I don't see a problem with Cassie being disappointed her dad was coasting on his fame. Hank was clearly disappointed with it as well. Later in the film she also feels guilty over what's happened.

Once again, the last actress who played Cassie was in only one scene and didn't really talk or speak at all. We didn't really see interaction other than Scott returns home, and suddenly his daughter has grown into a teenager.

One scene that was good and memorable.

I mean this is a franchise, and I would eXpect consistency that they aren't suddenly recasting characters left and right.

Is she quite well known? I’m pretty clueless on up and comers.

She appeared in Detective Pikachu and Big Little Lies. She has 1.7 ig followers.

I honestly didn't hear her name before Quantumania. Like she's not Noah Centineo popular.

Wait what? Was Cassie really in so few scenes? Like I agree that Hope was practically nonexistent in this film, but I recall Cassie getting quite a lot of scenes, many with her in a focal role.

The only characters that got more screentime and dialogue in the movie than Scott were Kang and maybe Janet.

I actually thought she was one of the better parts of the film. Ha. This movie really is polarizing!

They've recast characters many times before. Sure it was a memorable scene to see Scott reunited with his daughter, but once again, the actress playing Cassie in that scene did not even really have any lines of dialogue. She was basically a placeholder actress.
