Kevin Feige: New movie announcement between IM and Hulk

I could see it being Ant Man... I was reading an interview with Favs and he said that he brought Edgar Wright on set for Iron Man, and that he's hung out with him a few times and he likes the direction he's taking Ant Man.

With that being said, I'm with almost everyone else when I say it should be Captain America.

Wright's last update on Ant-Man gave the impression things were coming along, so it could be that. Captain America we haven't really heard anything on, so I doubt it. Thor was revising the script for budgetary reasons, so if they've worked that out it could be that too.

Captain:

How far along is Antman?

Chief:

My guess is Thor will be the next movie.

It looks like Edgar Wright is going to make Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life next, most likely filming it at the end of this year for release in 2009. That would push back his availability to direct Ant-Man.

My guess is they'll either announce a director for Captain America or an official green light (and perhaps release date) for Thor.

I don't see Ant Man as a big enough franchise to keep the movie momentum going.

Big franchises such as Captain America or Thor can keep the momentum going as the third movie, especially with the long pause after Hulk. Ant Man can fill in as the fourth.

I think it will be Thor. Seems further along, especially if Wright has no breaks in the immediate future to do Ant-Man.

Would hate for it to be ant-man first, but would still go watch it. See, a great film (IM) succeeds past it's own B.O. Let that be a lesson to the rest of you film-makers!

Would really hope for a Thor film, but difficult to tie in to possible later Avengers film if its not based in the here-and-now...

But I think it'll be Ant-man...

It needs to be Captain America after the scene at the very very very end of Iron Man if Marvel hopes to do an Avengers movie

I hope it isn't Ant Man(he sucks IMO)! Thor or Captain America is what I hope for.

I'm not interested in Ant Man at all. It will probably be Thor, which would be great, but I really want Cap.

When I think of Antman,I think of Honey I Shrunk The Kids as well.
I just hate that connection.

I'd rather have Cap in the avengers movie. Tony and shield find him in soem ice. Put some backstory in there, then after the movies done make a spin off cap flick with better backstroy plus new adventure.

If its Thor I hope they changed the script. I enjoy the Asgard story and all but I rathet see DB thor on earth not asgard.

According to a story from Reuters/The Hollywood Reporter the next Marvel Studios film is expected to be announced on an earnings call on Monday. But, as Feige had previously said, Marvel likely won't release any self-financed films in 2009 (because of strike-related delays).

Here's the full story:

With "Iron Man" set to explode this weekend, the next question for producer Marvel Entertainment is: What now?

One big variable is who does the distribution. When its financing deal was announced in summer 2005, Marvel said the deal "guarantees distribution for 10 films" through Paramount.

But that guarantee means the Melrose Avenue studio must distribute movies Marvel brings to it. For Marvel, the pact is simply a two-picture deal, with "Iron Man" the first and Marvel obligated only to distribute its next movie through Paramount. (Universal's "The Incredible Hulk" is exempt.)

An additional provision requires that movies based on "Captain America" and "Nick Fury" go through Paramount should they be made, with either film also counting toward the two-picture deal. Sequels of Paramount-distributed movies also will remain with the studio.

As a result, Marvel properties including "The Avengers," "Thor" and "Ant Man" could conceivably end up with other distributors.

Three years ago, the company wanted to stress the Paramount deal to show it had a pipeline; now, with "Iron Man" tracking well, Marvel aims to show Wall Street that the fledgling studio has flexibility.

Marvel also needs to convince investors it can deliver a steady stream of product. Despite a deep reservoir of characters, it plans on releasing only two titles per year.

"There's a lot riding on 'Iron Man' for Marvel because they don't have a lot of movies," director Jon Favreau said.

Marvel likely won't be releasing any movies in 2009, as the studio would have to be in pre-production now to make a summer date but isn't, mainly because of fears that Hollywood's actors will go out on strike in the summer.

"We're not going to risk our characters by rushing them," Marvel president of production Kevin Feige said. When asked about the timing of an 'Iron Man" sequel, he added that "two or three years is the proper time between movies." Favreau added, "I'd do number two in a heartbeat."

The studio's next project is expected to be announced on an earnings call Monday, with "Avengers," "Ant Man" and "Thor" the favorites. ("Captain America" is a prime property but is perceived as a tough sale overseas.)

Some question whether the Marvel characters waiting in the wings have the appeal of previously licensed characters like "Spider-Man" and "The X-Men." But Marvel president David Maisel said the key ingredient to make a film successful isn't "more well-known or less well-known characters but tender-loving care."

The earnings call will prove an unusually direct referendum on Marvel. Most film studios get buried on a conglomerate balance sheet. But since the publisher-turned-studio will see much of its growth from movies, weekend grosses likely will make its stock price soar or fall, kind of like, well, a superhero.

Marvel's shares rose 86 cents, or 3%, to $29.55 on the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday, near its 52-week high of $30.27.
My guess is that Marvel's two self-financed films in 2010 will be Iron Man 2 and Thor.

IMO,I don't think the SAG strike will happen.

It may not, but the WAG strike and the potential of a SAG strike has already had the effect of delaying a lot of projects.

Thanks GL's Light

Captain America not working out overseas? Says who?

It just needs a better pre-movie marketing like by putting cartoons ahead of the film and certainly stick with a world-loveable actor for the film.

Captain America is seen as a tough sale overseas due to anti-American sentiment outside the US, but if the Cap movie is done well, then it shouldn't matter.

I'm praying that they announce something on Captain America, but I have a feeling it will be Thor.

I want Thor to be the next Marvel movie.
I think Captain America could work overseas, but only if it is set either mostly or entirely during the 1940's and shows what a massive propaganda thing Captain America is, as well as a Superhero.

I think the anti-American sentiment overseas stuff is BS and crap.

There is a problem that must be recognized by not putting Cap in modern times in his own movie-verse. Then it would have to be done in the Avengers movie, which does a couple things. Cap would then have to almost takeover the Avengers movie (thus taking away the significance of other major characters), or his reintroduction into the modern times gets somewhat lost amongst an ensamble cast.

I would prefer to 2 movie origin for Cap in a Cap 1 and Cap 2, but if we only are to have 1 Cap movie before Avengers, then it should be half and half. I know this goes away from what the comics did, but I'd like to see Cap's journey not get lost amongst an ensamble cast.
