Kevin Smith Confronts Joel Siegel

So giving an explanation of why you disagree with the actions of a person, pointing out unprofessionalism is whining?

Hell, everyone whines.

Just blow out your eardrums and burn out your eyes if whining annoys you so much

I think the only reason it sounds like he's whining is because Siegel keeps ignoring the point and forcing Smith to continually repeat himself. If I were Smith, I would have made my point a couple times, then told Siegel "It's too bad you can't wrap your brain around this basic concept, so I'll have my secretary fax you a map to remove you head from your ass. Good bye" and hung up.

I did that already. I can still taste the whining.

Dude, did you actually listen to the entire clip? He DOESN'T CARE that Siegel walked out of his movie. What he cares about is that Siegel drew attention to himself, caused a scene, and disrupted the audience in the screening when he walked out.

If you walk out of a movie, you don't compete with the movie. You just shut the **** up and leave quietly.

That's what Smith was saying and Siegel couldn't understand that

Please. Siegel was wrong, but he made one statement. He didn't go off on some 5 minute rant. According to Smith's own website this is what happened....""Time to go!" he yelled as he stood up and proceeding to walk out, passing dozens of critics and writers on his way to the door. And his tirade continued all the way out, as he yelled over the film's dialogue that this was the first time "in thirty (expletive) years" he had walked out on a film."

He said "Time to go. This is the first time in thirty (expletive) years he had walked out on a film"

Big deal. Seriously, he didn't walk to the front of the theater and start leading a charge to boycott the film. He got emotional and made two tiny statements.

I must say that for someone like Smith who doesn't mind offending people, that chubby little director gets his feelings hurt real quick. This is the classic case of "he can dish it out, but he can't take it"

BTW, I like Smith's films, but he is being a b!tch here.

The point is, when you enter a movie theater, you shut your damn mouth. Other people are in the theater watching the movie.

It's simple consideration of others that Siegel forgot because he didn't like a certain scene in the movie and wanted attention.

Time to go! This is the first time in...er...f**king years that I've walked out on a thread! :twirlsmoustache:

What was Siegel's exact beef with the movie anyway? All I got was too much cursing and bestiality?

Siegel didn't know it was a Kevin Smith movie until 40 minutes into the movie

Kevin Smith needs to grow up. I have had random people stand up in horror films and declare that the movie they were watching was horrible and how can anyone watch such filth. It is funny. You chuckle at the person and continue to watch the movie. What, did Siegel's two sentence rant make the audience miss some key piece of dialouge that would prove to be the key element in figuring out the mystery of the plot that all comes together at the end of the film like Memento or the like?

I think there was a scene describing a sex act and they went into fairly explicit detail. Siegel couldn't make it through the three-minute scene.

It's simple courtesy that idiots fail to understand.

Shut the **** up during a movie. If you don't like the movie, leave with your mouth shut.

How damn hard is that?

Come on. He spoke loud on the way out. So what? Please, Siegel's whole scene probably lasted all of 15 or 20 seconds. Get off your high horses.

BTW, I have said it once and I will say it again...for a guy like Smith who loves to throw around his opinions, he seems to get his itty feelings hurt pretty fast.

Maybe you all can take a trip to Jersey to give him a nice big hug and let him know what a bad person that awful Siegel.

You don't get it all. 'Feelings' don't matter at all, people, fellow critics, are trying to watch a movie, you don't stand up and tell people it's time to leave because you don't like what's going on.

It's not "being on a high horse" to practice simple courtesy.

Exactly what dish can't Smith take? He didn't give a crap that Siegel walked out. He only wanted him to admit that the manner in which he left was unprofessional, which Siegel refused to do.

Siegel is a critic, not just some random Saturday-movie-goer. He knows better, and it was unprofessional. He refused to admit that and acted as though the problem was just that he walked out when it was made very clear that act wasn't the problem. Smith simply called him on it, and continued to when Siegel refused to admit what he did was inappropriate.

If some other critic happened to satnd up and applaud after a scene, NO ONE, including Smith, would say a word. However, it is simple curtesy to not make any noise during a movie.

It was a short 2 sentence statement. Let's not make this out like he stood in the front of the theater and went on a 5 minute rant. He made 2 little remarks while leaving the theater. Was he wrong? Yes. However, Smith and most of you are blowing this way out of proportion.

I have been in numerous horror films where people have stood up and said very similiar things as they were leaving. No bid deal. In fact it was funny.

Kevin Smith should actually be proud that his film made Siegel lose a bit of control and was the only film that he walked out of in 30 years.

He is, he said it in the sound clip, somthing about wearing it as a badge of honor.

How hasnt Joel Siegel walked out of a Uwe Boll movie.

I don't go to movies except for maybe 2 movies a year, because no one understands how the shut the **** up when the movie starts.

When I went to see Superman Returns, there were all these teenage girls sitting in front of us that wouldn't shut the hell up. I finally got fed up with it after they talked their way through the first ten minutes of the film and said "If you girls don't be quiet during this movie I am going to fart on all of you, I swear to God!". They didn't say another word during the rest of the movie after everyone else in the audience stopped laughing at them.
