Kingsman: The Secret Service

That's from the comics. The Harry-esque character died there as well.

That means nothing to me considering a lot was changed from the comics.

Also, Harry Hart was the uncle of the Gary character.

Galahad had to die. He was the hero who was totally compromised. He saw himself become a monster and couldn't do anything about it. I bet he welcomed his death. When he emerged from the church Firth totally sold it. He was devastated at what he did.

That's the great thing about Vaughn. He makes this ultra violent crass action movies, but they have a real beating heart. Like Kick Ass. The scene where Kick Ass is first filmed and gets his ass kicked (har har) there is some great dialogue there "5 guys on one whilst everyone just stands and watches... and i'm crazy!?" or the scene where Hit Girl tries to save Big Daddy.

Kingsman was a crass, ultraviolent action movie that just wanted to give us a good time at the movies. But underneath it all it has a heart and some themes about the class divide and how essentially, manners don't cost you nothing. Being rich doesn't necessarily make you a gentleman. Being poor doesn't necessarily make you a scum bag.

Saw it and loved it. Loved Jackson's lisp and Hamill bringing out the Joker voice.

Same here! Valentine was such a great villain, and I loved that Jackson took the character in the direction he did.

[BLACKOUT]And Eggsy's reward for saving the world = ANAL!!!! [/BLACKOUT]:woot:

Awesome film. An instant favorite of mine and Eggsy is adorable!

If he had to die, then he doesn't have to come back.

It was good but I think I liked Kick-ass more. Vaughn is a great director though with a keen sense for visceral action. The ending was a bit over the top for me. Basically almost every head of government is destroyed (no pun intended). Millions of people have been murdered. Families have killed each other. And we don't get any sense of the repercussions of that.

That's a pretty common thing in this genre actually. There's massive death and devastation before the villain is defeated. But by that point, there's only like five minutes of runtime left. So they don't really have time to delve into "the aftermath," much, beyond "bad guys lose, day is saved."

It's a common thing in all action movies really. People act like it's a superhero movie thing. Some even act like it's only been happening the last few years. Which is silly.

It's been happening for decades. All that matters is the journey and whether the film entertains you and occupies you enough that you don't even think about that stuff at the time.

Yeah I get it's about the journey and that it's par for the course, but it's still something to think about.

Like, what was the point of the V-day countdown? As soon as they saw Eggsy at the hideout they should have just activated the device. It's a minor nitpick. I enjoyed the movie overall.

And it was nice to see Mark Strong play a good guy for once. He's actually good at it.

Countdowns are an illogical plot device in general. Long countdowns, at least. I know why filmmakers use it but it's kind of hokey.

Did not Valentine use those things as safety measures? No unlike the chips and need for his hand to activate the device.

I think the thing was that he was supposed to be a very genre savvy villain, planning for every contingency and not falling victim to the usual trappings.

Which explains the lack of photos for those arriving at his super secret bunker. :o

Enjoyed it immensely and got men in black meets 007 vibes but it somehow worked

I need to revisit it because I personally did not see all that much on the side of devastated.

Firth was thinking imo. He was confused, bewildered and trying to figure out exactly what happened and why he enjoyed it so much. He was being a good agent.

Uh, what happened to all the other agents who were at the meeting in the beginning of the film? Were they busy or something? Nah, let's just send in the YA cavalry.
This was pretty fun, but I think Vaughn thinks being that overly self-aware somehow exempts the work from being cliche. There was some brilliance, but most of it was surrounded by what could have easily passed as one of the campier/over-the-top Bond films.

They actually explained why they sent in the kids. Merlin said they couldn't trust anyone except for the three of them in the room at that very moment.

Just saw it and it was good. Hope we get a sequel to it. Wish whatshername had seen more action on the battlefield.

Finished watching this. Loved it. Favorite Vaughn film.

Already started a wish list in my head on whom I want to come n join kingsmen in the next installment

I hope they don't use the "ex-Kingsman agent who is now the villain" route. Been don't too many times with Bond.

I would love to see Patrick Stewart in this.
