I liked the movie but unfortunately didn't love it as I had hoped and anticipated. Every moment that Kong was on screen was magical but I couldn't care less for any of the human characters apart from Larson. The comedy simply did not work. Another gripe I have is that we have pretty much seen everything fun the trailers.

On the bright side the visuals and look of this movie is gorgeous. Bring on G v K ok 2020!

I knew you were gonna hype yourself up too much :funny: At least you enjoyed Kong himself and his screen time, that's what I'm looking forward to most honestly.

Is it assumed that the monsters are extremely long-lived and do not reproduce? Are there some type of natural chemicals in the water/air that keep them confined to the island? If the monsters were to migrate, that would bode terribly for the general population.

Well maybe if you didn't go searching and demanding for every new piece of footage for the movie...

Well, Vision's review was exactly what I expected. That's what happens when you see every piece of footage released and overhype the movie.

Aww Vision, I'm sorry you overhyped! I wasn't expecting to care about any of the humans so I'm still looking forward to it. lol

At the Vietnamese premier they erected a giant statue of Kong behind a dancing stage. Around 7:00pm local time, a pyrotechnic effect LIT KONG ON FIRE! I appears no one was hurt so I'm going to choose to find this hilarious.

It's totally foreshadowing.

We're gonna get to see Kong totally shove a fireball in Godzilla's butt. :o

Yeah I am skipping out on the Smithsonian 6-story 4k Laser IMAX since it's all 3D showings. My second viewing will be at my local Alamo Drafthouse in their larger format 4K theater with Dolby Atmos. Picking up this snazzy Mondo pint glass as well.

That issue of Birth Movies Death is awesome by the way.

Looks to me like they were just recreating a scene in the movie

Maybe one problem is that the entire film is loosely based on the second act of a classic film, stretched out to 2 hours. It's hard to create real mystery with something so iconic, which already had several remakes/reinventions in the past 80 some odd years.

That being said I guess if you were to look at the film strictly as B-movie monster tentpole, as a stepping stone to the eventually G v K film, maybe they succeeded.

Saw this today. The script isn't up to snuff, causing the human characters to be a little dull. As Vision said, most of the humor falls flat as well. Thankfully the movie isn't going for big laughs all the time. The actors themselves are fine and work for the movie.

The action scenes and the creatures are amazing. Top-notch CGI and the final Kong fight is jaw dropping. That's because the true star of this movie is the director. This guy (together with Larry Fong) has got a GREAT visual style. Creative shots, beautiful cinematography. I believe that this guy could accomplish great things with a better script.

Is there at least more character development than there was in Godzilla? Which is to say, is there any character development at all. I rewatched Godzilla this week, and it really has no character development at all.

No, there is zero character development and I'm not exaggerating.

Not surprising, really. Max Borenstein wrote both scripts.

At this point it'd be better if they got him out of the equation. Seems like he won't write for Godzilla 2, so that's a good sign at least.

Sounds like I'm going to have the same issues as I did with Godzilla then.

Ive talked to people who said the human characters in Godzilla was better than Kong but ive yet to see the movie

most reviews ive seen say that John C Reilly was the best character

John C. Reilly is the best character because his charisma shines through moreso than the others'.

One big difference between Godzilla and this is that they make no effort to hide Kong like they did Godzilla. He's right there in full view from the beginning and the movie is riddled with big and small action setpieces.

Edwards wanted to do the whole Jaws shtick...but he over played it.

What people tend to forget about Jaws is that when they hide the monster...they still gave us full dimensional characters that we care about

The characters, (particularly the main) in godzilla were non existent. Just a one dimensional eye piece for the audience to experience set pieces through. Its hard to imagine the characters in Kong being worse. Oh well, at least this film apparently exceeds Godzilla in the action department.
