Kong: Skull Island - Part 3

What people tend to forget about Jaws is that when they hide the monster...they still gave us full dimensional characters that we care about

Very true, and I love JAWS on muiltiple levels and for many reasons. But for myself personally speaking, I don't need every monster movie to have great character development or characters I care about. And I think some of the GA feel that way. Sometimes I want just a great monster action flick and that's what I wanted with Godzilla and Kong and sounds like that's what I am getting.

As long as Kong himself delivers and the monsters fight scenes etc, I'll be a happy camper. Godzilla gave me Cranston even if for a short period of time, and some amazing visuals with Zilla and the MUTOS. Did it for me, it does it for some but not all. Just the way the cookie crumbles.

Ive talked to people who said the human characters in Godzilla was better than Kong but ive yet to see the movie

most reviews ive seen say that John C Reilly was the best character

With the exception of Cranston I don't see how people can honestly say that. I mean maybe I'm missing something, but what other characters were better? I didn't mind Johnson, but he was pretty much stoned face the entire time and Elizabeth Olsen did absolutely nothing. Ken Wantanabe and Juliette Binoche were just there to deliver exposition and so was David Strathairn. I agree that the character development is a little on the weak side, but one major thing this movie has over Godzilla is personality and that was enough for me.

For me it depends on how long you ask me to hang out with the characters. If they make up a good chunk of the film, it matters. Otherwise I get bored.

Hey understandable, for me regarding monster flicks it doesn't bother me much one way or the other. But I hear ya.

Yeah, everyone is different. Godzilla was good for me the first time around, because seeing the big guy in the final fight was "enough". But I haven't been able to watch it through since. Final fight is still a lot of fun though.

I watched Chris Stuckman's review. Pretty sure Kong murdered his dog.:funny: He really didnt like this film.

You guys should listen to the Double Toasted review.

Well some people never even heard of it. It's always good to spread the good word of DT. :o

Honesty one of my biggest complaints about Godzilla is the lighting. It's so dark at times. Made it tough to see what was going on in certain scenes. But yeah the final fight is great.

The lighting is horrid. I get why it is like that, but it still does make a few key scenes hard to see. Though did does make the Atomic Breath look fantastic.

You dislike Stuckmann? We can't be friends anymore. :o

The lightning and the smoke during the last fight did make things hard to see...same thing for Pacific Rim.

Glad Kong and Power Rangers are giving us day time battles

But.. but... Star Wars, it is what binds us :hrt:

Yeah I am hoping with Godzilla 2 we will get a lot more daytime action. Or at least better lighting. We've seen him now so we don't need to hide and tease his appearance anymore.

It was dark to hide him. But that was because of cost. If the sequel has a smaller budget, can't imagine why we'd see more of him and in broad daylight.

Pacific Rim was really well lit.

Well at least some better lighting during night time scenes haha

Personally, didn't really care for the film. Kong didn't feel like much of a character in this film. His "friendship" with the human characters never really felt believable.

Too many characters and subplots. Vogt-Roberts' direction was all over the place. For all of the flaws of Jurassic World, I thought Colin Trevorrow did a fairly good job of mimicking Spielberg's style and making something that fit in well with the Jurassic Park series and was also an entertaining action-adventure movie.

They keep denying it but we all know this is a setup movie.

For Godzilla you could only see the characters because it was so dark but at least there was some type of lighting in the scenes in Pacific Rim.

As well as making the monster the focus of the story so their presence is felt when not on screen . MUTO would've been a more appropriate name for that film. Godzilla is hardly mentioned until the hour mark. He appears and then swims in the ocean away from any story or focus for half an hour.

I really liked this film. Two for two with the WB Monsterverse. And I just gotta say this.
My eyes got watery when John C. Reilly's character got his happy ending.

This is a really weird scale I'm using, but would you say the tone is more 1996 Independence Day or 2009 Star Trek?
