Kong: Skull Island - Part 3

Damn Godzilla had a monster opening. Imagine how much it would have made in total if people had actually liked it?

I do think Skull Island really should be opening with no less than 75mil. I just don't think that WB were able to find a good angle and got overshadowed by the other March films.
Yeah, the drop and legs was substantial.

That's not a good number for a big budget spring blockbuster.
It does not help that Logan and BatB should both open well above that.

Put it this way - of Kong opens to 50-55 million it's opening weekend people can kiss the ensuing "universe" with Godzilla goodbye.

Whatever happens, Godzilla 2 will still be made regardless of Kong's likely low box office income. At least people will have that to look forward to.

I don't know about that since Godzilla 2 is already being pushed forward, but they will definitely need to revaluate their marketing campaigns in the future. With a $190M budget I'm sure they were expecting much more from Kong and while a $50-$55M opening wouldn't be great, at this point they'll just have to accept it and move on. I see a $40-$50M opening myself, and no matter how many monsters they put in Godzilla 2 it's bound to drop from the last one as well. Godzilla 2014 was so divisive that I wouldn't be surprised if it went sub $150M. They have also waited too long to release it in my opinion.

Godzilla 2 is happening.

SKREEEOOOONK

I'm referring to the team-up, not the GZ sequel.

Considering the deals in place that would allow Godzilla vs King Kong to happen, I wouldn't write that movie off. Now, Kong sequels, yes. Those are unlikely. I know that movie one Toho really wants.

If 50-55M is what they're projecting they have no one to blame but the studio. They've not advertising this well. Beauty and the Beast opens a week later and you can't go two minutes without seeing a commercial or ad about it somewhere. The studio needs to step it up, imo.

40m-45m is the only projection I have seen.

How hyped are people for Godzilla 2 anyways? I'm talking general audience.

Godzilla 1 seems to have come and gone in terms of impact.

The Movie will do well enough because the Movie has a generall good buzz on all Social Media plattforms

Pretty sure they're relying on the international crowd on this one

If Godzilla 2 does well I think the vs movie will go ahead no matter how this performs.

No one really wanted another Hulk solo movie after Incrediblr Hulk. Then he stole the show in Avengers, and then he was everyone's favorite. I'm not saying that will happen here, but there is precedent.

Hulk has always been a fan favorite. It's just that his solo movies haven't worked out well.

I would say Kong has always been a fan favourite myself personally. Most people in the world will have heard of Kong.

People love King Kong. But he has the same problem as Hulk. It can't just be him smashing stuff for 2 hours.

Hence them giving him some back story and characterization. He's not just a big CG effect here.

Kong is a cinematic icon.

We're living in a world where Dr. Strange is technically a bigger solo film draw than Superman.

The iconic status of certain pop culture figures doesn't necessarily mean much to the Box Office these days.

Everybody's heard of Mickey Mouse but he's not that hot a property.

The problem is, nobody wanted another Kong film so I'm guessing that's why it's not going to do well

Saw this tonight. I had a good time. Much better than Godzilla.

Nice to hear you enjoyed it, dude. :)

Did you stay for the end credits?
